 | | | Botcon 2009 Convention Toys Teaser Information | | Posted on 01-06-2009 at 02:47 PM by Sol Fury | Posting on the Transformers Collectors Club forums, Brain Savage has released a few small hints about what the Botcon 2009 Exclusive toy set might contain: "For one young Autobot..." is all we have revealed so far. While we tend to guard the convention sets and souvenirs closely, I want to let you know that we are very excited about what we have waiting in the wings!
The set we have planned features a select team of Autobots never before featured in G1 in this way. The timeline we are spotlighting is new, yet very familiar...
Let the games begin!

hmm...in all seriousness with the hint of thunderblast and the description I wonder if it might be that fembot group that was in the G1 episode with prime and alpha trion on cybertron. That would be new and cool.

Pete has said that they'll have access to the 25th anniversary molds in the future (which leads us to assume he means they didn't have access to it for this set).
Slimaximus:
People read the qoute closer "Autobots never before featured in G1 in this way" Meaning they can be G1 characters but in a different light
Personally I would love to see the Wreckers or TFTM cast that we haven't got yet
Crobot91:
I'd love to see Gobots as a/e/c or universe/classics re-paints:
Leader-1 (Classics Jetfire - grey & black)
Turbo (Energon Hot Shot - red & black)
Scooter (Cybertron Lugnutz - red & black)
Spay-C (Classics Astrotrain - white & black)
Cy-Kill (Armada Sideways - red, white, & blue)
Cop-tur (Armada Cyclonus - blue & grey)
Tank (Armada Demolishor - blue & white)
Basketball Jones:
It's Elita-One's team of female Autobots. That would explain the remolded heads in the box set.
The one head that isn't remolded is probably Thunderblast's.
No Universe molds? Damn, there goes any chance of seeing a Breakdown made from the Sideswipe mold.

That'd be cool. | That's what I was thinking too. I'm just not sure how much of the fandom would get behind a set completely made up of female characters.
I hope it isn't the Wreckers though. When I think of G1 teams I'm wondering if it will be one of the original combiners or maybe the Dinobots. I would think an origin of the Dinobots could work really well (obviously non-cartoon origin). What if Grimlock was the "one young Autobot" putting together his team all done in their cybertronian forms. Since they're always shown as total badasses showing them starting out when they're just figuring out what the hell they're doing would be a cool "different slant" idea.
Fosterlager:
Meh. Go-Bots failed because they lacked compelling characters. I don't see the demand in a set of them.

maybe its all the titanium molds, but done in plastic so they don't topple over...

| ^The heck?
That's not my quote, but that's my name quoted?!?
Screwy technology.
Crashbot:
I don't think it will be The Wreckers, They've already done Springer for a start, and The Wreckers were a staple of Convention exclusives for so long it just seems kinda' obvious.

| Gladiatorial combat.
Marvel UK, DW & IDW have all featured Cybertronian games as part of G1 continuity, but never fully explored it.
Maybe a team of Autobots infiltrating Megatron's early Decepticon gladiator crew, or pre-Autobots (Sideswipe & Sunstreaker maybe?) as gladiators themselves.
Just a thought.

Ya know, we had that rumor not long ago (although I can't find the post anymore, and don't even remember which board it was) that said this set would wrap up some "loose ends" from previous sets. Elita One from Thunderblast would definitely fit in with that. | I hope one of the toys ends up being Elita One. After seeing the 2007 comic with her in it, I really dug the Thunderblast toy in those colors. I thought the color scheme worked a lot better in pink and white than the original purple and greys.
BraveMax:
Femmebots... I would have to skip.
I'm mildly intrigued by this "gladiatorial" idea. Esp. since the original 'cons were gladiators - why not Orion Pax et. al AND gladiator 'cons? I mean, they'd all be from around the same time period... This could be a set about the origins of the two factions. That would be kinda sweet...

If that's the case, then maybe I'll get Cybertron Starscream repainted as Thundercracker and Skywarp like I've always wanted.
aprim:
"Team's " in G1 Autobots
ArielBots (Waiting in the wings)??
Dinobots
Protobots
Technobots
Any other teams were missing?

The Dinobot idea is awsome I just can't think what moulds would work. Any way looks like I'll be skipping this set, shame but from the sound of it they aren't going to have many of the moulds I like to work with.
Brodimus Prime:
My money's on the Wreckers, too. The sets have been pretty interesting the last three years--pre-Beast Wars in 06, Classics in 07, evil universe in 08--so it'll be fun to see what they do this year. Too bad Pasadena is a continent away. But that looks like the same place as BotCon 04, which I went to, so it'll be a good venue.
Tenebrouser:
No Shattered Glass please. PLEASE.
NGW:
Loving the speculation, this is my first Botcon, so I'm just really really excited for my first shot at an exclusive set. I'm hoping it takes more from lines I've not collected from than not, like I'd prefer a classics set of repaints over say..Animated (though the idea of Animated Beast Wars is really cool and I could get behind that...). Either way, I'm stoked.
Pepsiman98:
i dont know how crazy this sounds but i think it might be TFTM Shattered glass.it does kinda mach the description. whos with me?

I just had a fun little idea. What about Beast Wars molds as G1 characters?
Ooh or maybe some G1 molds being used...?

If the "no new Universe molds" line is true, then that sucks. Because there is absolutely nothing they could do that would pique my interest more than a Diaclone set. Maybe it's a matter of it being too soon to use some of the molds and we'll get it next year or beyond, but it would have been so fitting for the 25th anniversary. I'm not interested in quasi-Animated, 'Gobots' or more Shattered Glass at all. Wreckers, maybe. Depends on the molds, and Cybertron Thunderblast is decidedly not a good start.
ORIO:
The femme bots still seem more and more likely. I'd bet money on it if it wasn't for the "young autobot" thing...
But yeah, Cybertron Thunderblast as Elita-one. And then you have Override who can be repainted. As well as a bunch of molds that might pull off a "femme" look with new heads.
But then again... on the other hand... I forgot about the attendee exclusives and there wouldn't be enough femmes to go around. (Toys I mean )

That said, I'd love Twin Twist and Topspin updates of some sort. I guess they could redeco 2 of the Latin American Happy Meal Animated figures....
G1Wheeljack:
Interesting, I hope it's Wreckers.
BraveMax:
To reiterate:
The rule has always been that they can't use toys from a current or ongoing line. By last Botcon, classics had ended, so they could use those molds. Universe 2.0 doesn't end until May, and who knows what retailer exclusives/repaints we'll get. Most of those molds are likely to be in use by either Takara or Hasbro when the toys are being produced for the con (IE: NOW). That's why they can't use Universe. Or Animated, for that matter.
Movie... Is licensing issues. I'm not sure how that applies to the molds that don't clearly reflect REAL cars and trucks, but it may well apply to everything with the "movie" label on it.
So: Old classics molds are fair game. As is everything pre-classics, provided the molds still exist. That means they COULD do diaclone colors. They just couldn't use the newer molds. Better to wait, ne?
Femmebots... How very boring. As much as I love to see them get their unique on, I'd be surprised if they didn't try to do something more tied to Transformers history or origins to celebrate the anniversary. Hence my earlier thought... Though, at this point it's all speculation of course.

OH well can't wait.

WhiteMocha:
I really, really doubt it will be Shattered Glass, Femmebots, or Wreckers. No way the Club would use the SG theme two years in a row (though I'm sure we haven't seen the end of it altogether), Femmebots were already more or less addressed with the 2005 motorcycle set, and the Wreckers.... well, maybe that one is a bit more likely, but they have also figured in to Botcon before, and they're such fan favorites that it just seems too obvious. I'd guess the Club would want to go with something a little more unexpected (plus, as someone mentioned, Springer was already a Botcon figure).
Personally I hope it's not Wreckers.... that just sounds boring to me. The two pseudo-Springers and pseudo-Roadbuster already scratch that itch for me (though I wouldn't turn my nose up at a new Whirl figure).
I would have said my money is on a Diaclone set (perfect for the anniversary) but if they don't have access to the Universe molds I think that one is unlikely too... it would be a waste without the Prowl and Sunstreaker molds.
So, I dunno. The statement "never featured in G1 before in this way" is deliberately vague (though it definitely implies that the set will feature the G1 universe). Could be obscure G1 characters re-interpreted or given new prominence, or it could be characters from other continuities retconned into G1. I think there is a decent chance that the "let the games begin" comment is a hint.

I can understand not being able to reuse CC BB or some of the other licensed vehicles, but does that mean EVERY mold made for the movie line is off limits? Why would Wreckage or Landmine be off limits, for example?

Wow maybe the wreckers?

Paramount owns partial licensing to them. Most of those other molds are featured either in the video games or the comic fiction.
Draven:
If it's a fembot set, I'll probably be dumping mine in the dealer room without even opening it.
