Botcon 2008 Shattered Glass Box Art Revealed attachment

Optimist_Prime:
This month's issue of Tomart's Action Figure Digest, No. 164, sports a 2008 BotCon exclusive Shattered Universe Optimus Prime on the front cover. I have yet to read the magazine, so I'm not sure what the "BotCon 2008 Preview" holds.

xZAOx:
Didn't we hear about this a week or two ago? Isn't this the issue with the box art in it?
Peaugh:
Yeah, get in there! The box art is inside!!
taterx:
Can he make with the pics or is that uncool?
Liokaiser:
Wow...that cover looks wicked.
taterx:
I'll have that bad boy in two weeks, can't wait to finally see the add on Megatron.

Are you going to sell or trade any of the other figures?
taterx:
No Sir General Magnus, sorry didn't mean to leave that hanging like those are the only two I want. You see, this line (classics) will be my first completest type mission. I want all the molds even repainted exclusives. Well minus the la-mo two pack, hated the truck mode and megs gimmick arm.

After this I'll be sweating the SDCC Nemeses Prime, hope it will be up on HTS like last years was.

Oh well. The search for a Starscream carries on!

*flies of to the sunset*
taterx:
You'll be able to get one of those maybe later than sooner but you'll get it. Good luck.
yami4ct:
Anyway we can get some box art scans or is that a going to be a no-no for the site? A PM maybe? lol. If we can't put up scans than thats fine. I'll respect those wishes. It'll be a surprise when I get mine in 2 weeks.
Optimist_Prime:
OK guys, not too much new here except for Box art pics. I also put pics up of the small article and Jazz. He's really the only figure I want from this set.
Icespark:
Thanks for finding and uploading these pictures! I've been wondering what the box art looks like!

On a side-note, I think it's somewhat strange that the box does not include Razorclaw on its list of contents.
Peaugh:
That's a nice looking box.
Beastbot X:
That is a seriously SWEET box.
blitzwingfan94:
That box art is freakin sweet!!!
taterx:
Box is way better than 07. Thanks for doing that Optimist.
SmokescreenGT:
Love that box art. Very cool.
atomicthumbs:
That is an AMAZING piece o' art! Already made it my wallpaper (sure, not that clear). YOWZA!!
Locke:
Do we know who the artist is? Was it Don?

No matter who it was, it looks great.
Pete@BotCon:
Magazine scans shouldn't be posted...I assume Tomart's has the same policy we do.

Proofreading (or lack thereof) FTL.
nkelsch:
If you want to read about it and see the pictures, buy the mag. It is a slippery slope when you start scanning magazine articles, what is to prevent scanning of full IDW comics for posting as 'news'.
Noisemaze:
Can you make the pics a little darker?

I see your point. I truly was just trying to do a favor for the community here. Understand I wouldn't post pics of a 5 page article. Someone would have to of lost all their marbles to do somthing like scanning a full comic book, plus I don't think the mods would let that fly. I posted a Paragraph, there is more to the article on the next page as well as more pics. A whole comic may as well be a bootleg movie.
Obvious Prime:
Any more pictures of Grimmy, wot?
atomicthumbs:
Is the mag available at most news stands? Don't recall seeing it before. I usually pick up ToyFare.

Well no wonder it looks so bad then!

Actually, I quite like it... a lot.
Autovolt 127:
The Box Set Art is awesome.
LightningZERO:
Um, there's no other Shattered Glass Decepticons except Starscream? All we've seen are the evil Autobots...I want to see a heroic Megatron!
Joe Moore:
Scans removed. It's the same policy we have for Toyfare. Like Toyfare, those guys are not too fond of scans being posted and they are more than happy to let us know.
Railguard:
Ok we'll just have to wait and see what it looks like, thats fine.
Counterpunch?:
Why wasn't the Club or BotCon.com the first to get a look at these pics?

Tomarts? Seriously?..

Sir, the Internet is on the phone, apparently, it says that "it's fast"?

I was thinking the same thing. Isn't the box art normally revealed on the botcon.com site at least a couple weeks before the con? I'm really surprised it's been published in a magazine and the club/attendees haven't even seen it yet on the site.

Not entirely sure, but this might have been something that Brian might have set up on purpose. Still, it looked awesome.

They are trying to expand the appeal of the convention and the toys to those that don't visit Transformers fan sites. Action Figure magazine appeals to a much broader audience. Kudos to them for trying to make things known to as many people as possible.

I agree, and what you've said makes sense. However, for those who don't subscribe to toy magazines (and are attending), it woulda made sense to ALSO post it on the website around the same time as the magazine article was published. Just saying.

They (Tomart's) don't pay money to have content in their magazine for it to have the company they paid post it free online. And you don't have to subscribe to see the pictures. Nearly any store that carries magazines will carry this. If people are to lazy to take a stroll to a local supermarket, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Target or Wal-Mart, then that's just their problem.

Ok, I won't do that again in the future. Again I only had good intentions here, I never ment to undermine anyone's authority, offend, or disappoint. On the bright side, I got my first news credit...

Glad I grabbed the image when it was up. I'm going to see if I can "lighten" it when I get home. I don't have the right software @work.

I've no objection to giving such promos to magazines, but to do so without simultaneously making them available to us via the BotCon site (or at least the club site) is a terrible error in judgment, IMHO.

To follow up on my other post, if the magazine won't carry it if it's online, then don't use the magazine. It doesn't have the wide circulation that the site does (actual number of hits notwithstanding), and frankly, I still think that to give it to the magazine and not the rest of us is beyond wrong.

Indeed. I can't remember any other convention-exclusive toy being featured on the cover of a mainstream toy magazine.

I'd be willing to bet FP didn't give Tomart's anything -- they likely sold them first rights to publishing the image. However, I don't think it would be completely unreasonable for paid club members to have access to the box art on the TFCC site. But enh... we'll all get to see it in 1-1/2 weeks.

Bingo. Tomart's has a much, much wider audience that just putting it on Botcon.com. Money and wider publicity will always win out. It's likely they approached FP with an offer to do an exclusive first look. FP isn't going to turn down an offer like that, and they shouldn't. Again, kudos to them for expanding the publicity beyond their own publications.

Assuming you're right (I certainly have no reason to think otherwise), it still makes no difference. I consider it the wrong thing to do. The club, not to mention paying BotCon attendees (via the website), should be first.

I simply disagree with pretty much every point here in the strongest possible way.

But I guess it's not my call, is it?

(Shakes fist in impotent rage)
airfox:
Well, G.B., it's not like we're gonna cancel our orders if we don't like the boxart, and we will see it at the convention (and even online by that time, so Non-Attendee packages will see it before they get their set), so I don't see this as much of a problem.

Regarding the boxart: GREAT! FANTASTIC! I didn't see it.
