We have just been relayed a message from the BotCon customizing class which is currently in progress and we now know what mold is being customized for the event.

We have been told that the 2008 BotCon Customizing Class toy is an evil version of the Transformers Collectors Club Nightbeat figure (TFCC version pictured).

Make sure to stay tuned to TFW2005 throughout the duration of the BotCon event for constant news updates and images from Cincinnati!

(That's fine if you did take liberties. I'm just trying to get an idea for Shawn's intention)

To be completely honest, there were no hard and fast rules and I used some ideas from other classmates too. The only thing we didn't do was to add a little "Cosmic Rust" as we wanted to do that on our own with our own choice of color.
Lumpy:
man...evil nightbeat is looking pretty cool...i like the cosmic rust touch...and the autobot logo is really cool too...

Tried to get online last night, but TFW2005, and only TFW2005, was slower than molasses in an ice age. It just wasn't working.

It was a fun class and Shawn has managed to continue making the process better and smoother. I have discussed with him the possibility of replicating the emblems, and have his blessing provided I grant appropriate credit, so if there is interest, I will make these emblems available as an "officially" approved product.

Sorry, how does it reinforce that stance? The class isn't free by any means. It costs signifigantly more than buying the finished figure will. Not only that, but it requires your own labor to paint and assemble. How does a problem with the packaging that caused a delay mean anything, when these figures had nothing to do with that delay?

and SWOOPDAWG, that looks cool...but i'm curious about how much customizing was done if its already molded in those colors...are there no paint apps? is the class really just about painting the toy? not that thats bad, just curious
The figure comes completely unassembled, straight from the molds. All the parts are still on the sprues. Rivets, screws, and pins are baggied. The class covers assembling the entire figure from scratch by hand, and painting it, with whatever customizing touches you like. The assembly is helpful in teaching you how to reassemble a dismantled figure you want to customize, as well.

I hope a repro head gets around... as well as a Minerva head...

I've no doubt anyone who did that would not only receive a speedy C&D from Funpub, but be banned from any future convention, custom classes, etc. If they got the original from a production Nightbeat instead, most of that would still happen...

There's a few Repro guys out there that will do it I've bought the two Female R.I.D. mold heads from the 03(?) set a while back.

So it is possible might take some time though....

I really would like that autobot symbol...also a minerva head would be sweet
General Tekno:
And there's always the possibility of someone making a custom Nightbeat head that's BETTER than the F.P. head.

With the antennae, for instance. Which are sorely missed on this figure.

I don't doubt some would do it. But keep in mind, the owner of the rights to the heads you mentioned is not likely in any position to be taking someone to court over it any longer.

I think what he was trying to say is that the packaging specifically is an issue, since the Club Exclusive Nightbeat figures themselves, as the custom class figure indicates, are clearly ready to go, but are being held up due to packaging issues. He's already come out as saying that loose, cheaper version would be nice, since the packaging just drives up the price, and in this case, the delay it's causing in the figure's release is another strike against it.
