Hasbro Collaborates With Shapeways To Sell 3D Printed Artwork

Posted on 07-21-2014 at 10:28 AM by SilverOptimus under San Diego Comic Con
21Printing1-master675 Hasbro just announced a partnership with Shapeways regarding a new initiative where Official and Fan Art will be 3D Printed and sold as official Hasbro products. The announcement first came from Hasbro's 2014 2nd Quarter Financial Conference Call and Shapeways followed it with an official statement from their end. Though the initiative begins with My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, the company plans to expand into other Hasbro brands which might include Transformers.

"Once we have filled our 3D printers with community designed ponies, we will continue to work with Hasbro and the Shapeways community to enable more Hasbro branded content to be created, 3D printed and sold.

This is a major step forward in realizing the creative potential of 3D printing, to make products on demand that might otherwise never make it into people’s hands. Hasbro has been incredibly forward thinking and open minded, to realize that the existing unmet demand within their fan base can be satisfied with the help of those very same fans. We expect to see many more partnerships like this, to enable user generated content to be 3D printed based on existing intellectual property, with fair attribution and compensation for all parties involved. We've seen this model work successfully in the digital realm, and we’re thrilled to be leading the charge in the physical."

The designs (Fan Art) must be cleared with Hasbro to ensure they are not obscene, violent or hateful, but otherwise, the artists largely have free rein. Even the price for the figurines will be set by the artists.

For more info, visit SuperFanArt.

TFW2005 Coverage Of Hasbro Second Quarter 2014 Earnings Conference Call

Posted on 07-21-2014 at 08:55 AM by SilverOptimus under Conventions
Hasbro_Q2_2014_Earnings_Conference_Call TFW2005 attended the Hasbro Second Quarter 2014 Earnings Conference Call live today.

Nothing major was told but Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner mentioned that they have planned reveals at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. Hasbro brands such as Transformers, My Little Pony, Magic: The Gathering and Jem and the Holograms will have reveals during the show. A new initiative is planned where the Fans can 3D Print their My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Fan Art. For this, Hasbro has entered a partnership with SuperFanArt. No word yet regarding Transformers.

Transformers: Battle Masters will get expanded to the Marvel Universe.

Also, Mr. Goldner was happy with the success of Transformers: Age Of Extinction. It has helped to increase the Transformers toy sales worldwide. During the Q&A Session he said...
"We feel really good about not only the box office which is growing but movie theaters are built in particularly in emerging markets internationally. I would say that our results in the quarter are very good and we feel very good about the new innovation across both the toy and games category; we put out a very different kind of product line, more expansive line, brought back in a lot of those innovation for the young kids and we see them reflected in our takeaway. And looking out over the remainder of the year, remember for all three of the prior Transformers movies, we did far more business in the 3rd and 4th quarter than in the first half of the year. We would imagine that to be true here as well. And so, as we get into the 3rd and 4th quarter into the entertainment windows and home entertainment, we would continue to believe that we’ll do more business in the 2nd half of the year than the 1st. That’s been the case for this Brand with for Boys Action. But we are pleased thus far about the result."

A journalist asked whether Hasbro delayed shipping Transformers toys to Latin-American countries and other countries where the 4th Movie was delayed due to FIFA World Cup. But Mr. Goldner said yes and told us that Hasbro expects the toy sales to kick-in when the movie is released in those countries.

You can find more information regarding Hasbro's 2014 Q2 results after the jump. Selected slides from the presentation are attached with this news post as well.

Masterpiece Prowl and Sunstorm First Release @ SDCC 2014

Posted on 07-17-2014 at 07:15 PM by Tony_Bacala under Conventions
masterpiece-prowl Toys R Us sent out a press release earlier today with a full listing of their 2014 SDCC offerings. Newly added to that list and relevant to our TFW2005 readers - Hasbro's Masterpiece Prowl and Masterpiece Sunstorm will be making a "First Appearance" in San Diego via TRU, who is partnering with Entertainment Earth. TRU will be selling their goods through the EE booth.

Check out the abridged press release below!
Building on its tradition of offering an unbeatable assortment of toys for collectors of all ages, Toys“R”Us has revealed its full lineup of exclusive items available at the highly anticipated Comic-Con International in San Diego taking place Thursday, July 24 through Sunday, July 27. Conventioneers will find must-have merchandise based on fan-favorite series, including My Little Pony, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, TRANSFORMERS and more at the Entertainment Earth booth (#2343).

Toys“R”Us will also provide convention goers the opportunity to be among the first to purchase exclusive merchandise not yet available in stores, such as MINECRAFT Creeper Anatomy, MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS ZECORA and TRANSFORMERS Masterpiece Prowl, among others. These first look items will become available in Toys“R”Us stores nationwide later this year.

Fans unable to journey to San Diego this year will also have the opportunity to purchase select items online at beginning at 10am EST on Thursday, July 24. All merchandise is available while supplies last, so fans should visit Entertainment Earth at booth #2343 or early to make purchases.

Toys“R”Us First-Look Items Coming Soon to Its Stores Nationwide:

TRANSFORMERS Masterpiece Prowl from Hasbro®

Prowl is a clear thinker who is able to see beyond the chaos of battle and discover the rational route to victory. His logic center is the most sophisticated in the Autobot army, capable of analyzing complex combat situations and making strategic decisions almost instantaneously. Unexpected events have been known to briefly scramble his circuits, but there isn’t much this Autobot doesn’t see coming. As much as his fellow Autobots would like to see Prowl loosen up and crack a joke once in a while, they recognize that what makes him so brilliant on the battlefield is what makes him so disciplined off it. Conventioneers can take home this sneak peak item for $70.

TRANSFORMERS Masterpiece Sunstorm from Hasbro®

Fly too close to the sun and get burned. Get too close to Sunstorm, and get dissolved into a puddle of liquid scrap. Autobots beware, because this ultimate Decepticon flier is on the hunt for someone to fight. He converts from robot mode to fighter jet mode, and in either mode he’s armed for major combat. His canopy and nose cone open in jet mode, and his hidden missile pods deploy when he gets an Autobot in his sights. And, don’t forget to set him on his stand when the fight is over for the day. Fans can get this high-flying Decepticon with incredible battle features for $80.

All Toys“R”Us exclusive items are limited editions and will be available on a first-come, first served basis, while supplies last.
