We’ve known for a while now that IDW’s Transformers (formerly Robots in Disguise) would be uniting with the returning Windblade series to form the Combiner Wars event. However, the nature of the Windblade series has remained somewhat nebulous – until now. Writer Mairghread Scott has just clarified on her Tumblr that the Windblade series will be continuing, even after Combiner Wars:
“Hey. Just wanted some clarification. Is Windblade coming back as another miniseries or as an ongoing because I’ve heard both from different places”“Windblade will be continuing after Combiner Wars. Happy New Year!”
Unfortunately, not many details beyond that are known at the moment, but keep an eye out for more info as it rolls in.
Discuss this revelation after the jump!

I had no clue….that sounds awesome.

That's odd, I was told his Joe run had intricate connecting plots between diffrent stand alone stories like Young Justice
Infosaur
In a nutshell, he made GI-Joe less about Weather Dominators and Ninjas and more about how real world terrorism exists.
The Tomax/Xamot brothers were turned from a joke into dangerous white collar venture capitalists. Basically being humanitarian fundraisers on one side and funneling weapons to Outer-Carbomya on the other side.
He took Chuckles (fucking Chuckles, the guy with the Hawaiian shirt!?!) and made him a deep, deep, deep cover mole inside Cobra. He even explained why he was heavy set for a military guy, (he had a dental implanted radio that worked when he put a piece of tinfoil across two teeth, part of his cover was eating candy/chocolates so that he could have small pieces of foil on him.)
It's probably the darkest anyone's EVER taken GI-Joe at this point.
As much as an ass as Costa was when he bailed on TF, you really need to check out his run on GI Joe.
LegendAntihero
Yay! I'm so excited

I think poor Scoop is gonna get turned into the new Scrapper just in time for Combiner Wars.
Autovolt 127
Costa's problem was that he couldn't see the Transformers as anything beyond robots. He thought they were boring and couldn't be human like at all.
Which is rather dumb, I mean Roberts was able to make them humanized and relatable.
I've never read his GI Joe run so I have no clue if he was that good but I'll take your word for it.

I have to say that Ms. Scott writes better dialog than Barber.
Barber has some really good over-riding themes and direction, (Thundercracker's defection, Starscream as King, Prowl's Machiavellian manipulations, President Bumblebee, etc.) but his execution of actual interactions between characters has forced and painful. (still don't get what Scoop is supposed to be doing, Wheeljack is lost, etc.)
I'd like to see Barber maybe step back into a sort of executive editor and let Ms. Scott and Roberts do their thing. The bar scene in Windblade #1 alone was a better introduction to Snarl, Ironhide and Swindle than half of Costa's run.
It's odd that Costa was so good on GIJoe and so completely fumbled the ball on TF.

I just don't need another Tranformers monthly to keep up with. My sub box is expensive enough as it is.
edgs2099
I'll be the dick to say it, but I think Stone needs more polish () before handling a monthly. I know I'm not the only person that saw a slow decline from 1-4 of the mini.
Don't get me wrong. I like her style. I'd love to be wrong about this.
Autovolt 127
I'm sure it will be the same team. Scott's coming back….and Sarah is still with IDW so I think it'll be everyone back.
LegendAntihero
I'm hoping it's the same creative team as the first series
emptythreat
I'd rather have new minis and some experimentation than this terrible character in her drearily written book.

More Windblade = YAY
ZeroiaSD
It's certainly on the strength of the mini. It's more like they wanted to do a new series and felt the upcoming event was a good launch point.
You won't be caught up to the political situation, but neither is Windblade, so that works.
zfarsh
I hope that means MORE toys: Ironhide!!!
Oh and as for the comic, definitely will buy!!!
femmebotfangirl
It's a fairly solid standalone comic I think.
Snark
Hey guys, quick question. I'm thinking of checking out Windblade but don't really follow the rest of the TF comics (I've read the early issues of MTMTE and RID but can't really remember them). Will I be lost or are they fairly solid standalone comics?
kaijuguy19
Wonder if we'll get to see Elita 1 in the ongoing at some point as Leader of Caminus like either she comes to visit Windblade or she'll appear in a flashback?
bennydeckersac
I wonder if Windblade will return to Caminus. It seems like Barber does not have enough characters to pull off an only Earth based ongoing. If Scott had a whole titan's worth of new characters that would be cool, and Barber could still have Earth and Cybertron to play with.
El Zilcho
Excellent, the Cybertron-based plotlines could use some more focus. As others have said, though, they need to retitle this series, rather than just calling it 'Windblade'.
