Explains why the grenade says "Grenado" and, thanks to the blast being aimed in only one direction, goes against several theories that the grenade snuffed Megatron's blue spark.

I want Optimus to have an awakening and join the Decepticons.

We and Barber can't plan for ten years from now. It's not the faction of Megatron that will matter then, it's how we got there. It's not whether or not there's a war, but if the end of the first Autobot-Decepticon war continues to be meaningful and isn't papered over in a rush.
I don't think the comics are in any hurry right now to go back to war after the Dille series got such a tepid reception overall. But there's always that same solution of flashbacking if they want to get some toy tie-in action there.
Or skip forward to some form of Beast Wars.

I agree with the whole "ups and downs and back and forths" in comics. I must say however, if an author someday did have megatron return to the cons, it might be interesting to see him rejoin and clean house with a new vigor and perspective. I do like where he is now though, but it can't stay this way forever.

I know it's an eventuality but still, hopefully it's an eventuality that's still far off (like years and years far off) as the IDW TF fiction is the most invested I've been in the franchise storywise in years.

Costa had an editor?

Costa's editor.

That is such a scary thought. I like it how things are at this moment.

Who is Schmidt?

I fear that once John and James are switched out for another writer, or perhaps Hasbro swings a hammer, things will be moved into a less progressive phase and people will pull a Joss Whedon…yes Joss, I have not forgotten Colossus. Anyway, i fear the current team will take things to interesting places only for their good works to be undone when the next Andy Schmidt or Mike costa shows up.
I hope for the best, I fear for the worst.

Well, Magneto is still a hero/antihero, so I´d guess some changes do stick around.
As long as they make a plausible reason or something. But I see no reason as to why Galvatron can´t be the permanent leader and Megatron the attoner.

Well…the IDW universe so far has been pretty good with deaths and lasting changes…but if the continuity keeps going on long enough then yes, status quo will get reset at one point.
Think about it…Hasbro and IDW renewed their partnership for another ten years. Say…seven years from now, if the books are still going, the people who are reading them will have changed (some of us hardcore fans will still read them, but a lot of people will have left, while others will have joined).
To those people who will start reading then, a lot of the stuff that's currently fresh and cool (like Megatron turning into an Autobot) will be an ever-confusing mess of continuity. No doubt that at one point they'll return Megatron to being a Decepticon, the same way the war is sort of continuing again now on Earth in ex-RID, or Optimus going from Orion Pax back to Optimus and joining the fold.
Unfortunately, but that's comics!

So, you think this is inevitable?

I always thought that forged sparks, when they sprang from the ground, only brought along the skeleton. Which is why Ratchet needed another medical bot forged set of hands.
So for all we know Megatron is forged and as the parts are placed on his skeleton the spark animates them in the way they're needed. So Megatron's spark is a "miner's spark". When he was first born, the parts are placed on him and they naturally start to turn into construction mining parts.
That's probably where the functionists get their crazy ideas from.

I think I love the idea/theory that Brainstorm and in effect Rodimus might be responsible for Megatron being as powerful as he was.
Grenade actually snuffs Megatron's spark, they take the green spark Brainstorm harvested and shove it into Megatron's dying body, and bam. Ultra Super Megatron that can pop Autobot heads with his two fingers.
WilyMech
Truth is we don't Brainstorm's real name.
Geardust
This is my theory as well. He could possibly turn out to be Scattergun since the way Scattergun is mentioned ties in with Brainstorm. He's the first CE he mentions to Chromedome, and he talks about how they've had this conversation before, how that "look" he has after a memory whipe is the worst look. Brainstorm is seen running when Overlord attacks the place where they hold Soundwave, was he assumed killed in action/missing? Chromedome couldn't deal with it so he removed the memories of him if they were bonded?
Also, Scattergun is a constructed cold MTO and Brainstorm is affected by the Tyrest killswitch. Probably way way out there and too farfetched, just the dialogue seems to be so personal in #16 and Scatttergun would be a fitting name from a bot like Brainstorm. But then again that doesnt really work with Hoist considering him a friend, regardless I think there's more to the whole Scattergun issue even if my guess turns out to be wrong.

The possibility of "…do NOT stop Brainstorm…" or "do not throw that grenade" is fucking with my brain.
