You may recall from one of our earlier posts that the retailer incentive covers for Transformers #39 and Windblade #1 were something a bit special from IDW – each retailer participating in the incentive next month gets a cover showing their store either being protected by Superion (Transformers #39) or destroyed by Devastator (Windblade #1). We’re told that in the end, six stores got in on this promotion.
Via Giant Robot Comics on Twitter, we have a look at one of the finished covers – this is the Transformers #39 cover. Decepticons in Dartmouth, Canada beware, because Giant Robot Comics is under the protection of Superion! Check it out, and a big thanks to TFW2005 member D-Drive for bringing this one to our attention.

Actually you can get as many copies made as you want. 250 copies was the minimum number you needed to order to get the custom artwork done. So any store doing it will have at least 250 copies of this cover and 250 the Devastator Windblade cover. They are only available at the store that got them but they will have plenty.

So these are premium copies???
Cause I kind of expected them to be retailer-exclusive versions – i.e. easy to find, when you go to the comic shop. Makes no sense to make these premium, chase covers.

I think mainly a few very large stores, maybe with multiple locations.

For some reason the art and colours look less well done than usual.

Ah, okay, thanks… Somehow I doubt my local shop orders that much, lol.

You only get 1 copy of this for every 250 comics ordered

Is the only way to get this from the store?
I used to shop there – I want one.

Huh. They're doing what they did with IDW's Godzilla #1. Smart marketing move.

The earliest retailer incentive covers we saw for the next issue of Transformers (and also Windblade #1) had blank spots for where comic stores would be drawn in on the finished version. We've now got a look at one of the finished covers, via Giant Robot Comics. We're told there are six comic stores participating in the promotion.
Check out Giant Robot Comics' one here, and a big thanks to TFW member D-Drive for the heads up.
