 | | | Simon Furman on Transformers Nefarious #1 | | Posted on 10-24-2009 at 03:27 PM by Sol Fury | Simon Furman has updated his blog site with a script wrap for Transformers Nefarious issue #1, due out sometime next year. The Revenge of the Fallen sequel miniseries is slated to last for six issues, and spins out of the story in November's Tales of the Fallen Issue 5. Without spoiling too much, he says that the story will involve a new global conspiracy, four new toy Autobots making their debut, and four all-new Decepticon agents created specially for the story.

This piece of info was taken from Simon Furman's WordPress site. Spoiler Alert Quote: SCRIPT (W)RAP — NEFARIOUS #1
Been a while since I did one of these post-script digressions, so here goes with issue #1 of the upcoming Transformers: Nefarious (6-issue) mini-series from IDW, a direct sequel to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (so set in the movie-verse). My aim is to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, but if you’d rather not even be teased, look away now! Strictly speaking, Nefarious begins in Tales of the Fallen #5, which features the mysterious resurrection of Ravage (and his even more mysterious mission). But even if you don’t catch that one, issue #1 rolls full pelt into a global conspiracy of which even the Autobots and Decepticons have been blissfully oblivious… until now. Featuring Soundwave, Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Sideswipe, Alice (yes, Alice!), a quartet of Autobot (toy) characters making their Earth-based debut and even four all-new, original Decepticons (you didn’t think Ravage was Soundwave’s only special agent, did you?), the first issue peels back some of the layers surrounding the mysterious (human) organization known as The Initiative and the (potentially) earth-shattering Project: Nefarious. Just how far and wide its reach extends into the warp of weft of recent Cybertronian history (and how much it’s about to influence their future too) will force Soundwave and then Optimus Prime into truly desperate measures (and a clash or two too) as they learn who’s really in charge of their destiny. And it’s not them! Issue #1 promises lots of intrigue, action, shocks and a final page that’ll leave you scraping your lower jaw off the floor. When's it out ?
Tkemert20:
Awesome! Can't Wait See Those 4 New Decepticons! Wheeljack_Prime:
I wonder if Furman is in the know about what TF3 is about and whether he's going to do stories in the immediate future that will begin to tie in.

Sounds like these'll be worth checking out; I like these movie-based mini series comics.
Ra88:
Sounds interesting. Weird that they're bringing back Alice, though. And I hope either Don Fig or Milne are back on the movie comics; the TotF Sideswipe/Jetfire guy seriously needs to go.
Nevermore:
I never understood why one would cite TFormers as the source of something that comes from another site.
This is not a "TFormers is bad" thing, it applies to any other site too. If Furman wrote it on his news blog, then Furman is the source. TFormers might get credited for finding it first, but the source is Furman.
On topic: GEEZ, not ANOTHER worldwide conspiracy the Autobot and Decepticons are unaware of. What's this, the Machination 2.0?
Omega Charge:
Can't wait for this. I loved Reign of Starscream the last time around, and this sounds even better.
Dinobot Nuva:
Not sure how I feel about Furman taking over the movieverse. What bits of Tales of the Fallen I've read by him were pretty bland. I'd much prefer Mowry to keep at it, but the appearance of more EU characters will keep me interested.
SmokescreenGT:
Sounds very exciting. Can't wait to see what's in store.
Triceradon:
I like how this sounds.

As I recall, the whole Ravage resurrection was added in after IDW found out he died in the movie. I think Furman said that Tales of the Fallen 5 and Nefarious was laid out without that knowledge.
MenasorMaster:
Who could the four new be ?
The Original Casseticons ??
Pavol Palat:
Ravage ressurected? Even Alice? Shadowy organization pulling the strings?
Yeah, I know. NEST will just leave Ravage's remains in the sand (don't worry about it guys, OP approved, just let this piece of alien technology rust here, come we're going to see the pyramids!) Sounwave comes down in the night, picks the skull-spine up and yaaay, kitty is back! The rest will be equally, I dare say, stupid. Is Furnam so keen on Alice? And we saw some human controlled robots in RoS, we know Sector 7 had extensive knowledge of transformers and the Cube (even to the extent that Starscream was able to build a new Allspark! LOL), but it did not play any role in ROTF. I see no reason to be happy about Nefarious.
This sounds like another X-issue filler to me, just composed so that it fits 'somehow' after ROTF and does not set up anything towards the 3rd movie (it's been like that so far).
But hell, I will still buy the TPB;-)
Beastbot X:
I wonder if they'll give a "real" name to Alice...
Godziboy1993:
Like a vast, predatory bird I will be hunting for this comic. Furman's writing is power beyond measure!

This. It sounds so interesting, I can't wait for it to come out. Likewise, it's weird they're bringing back the Alice Pretender...
Bahamut Prime:
Sounds kickass! So we have another annoying Triple-I/Machination organisation again, right? Hope the Transformers and NEST can kick their asses! TFfan08:
I am hoping 3 of the decepticons will be Reflector Krueger:
Why is he resurrecting Ravage and Alice? Isn’t it messing with already established continuity? Tales of the Fallen has been dreadful, IMO. Never thought I’d be saying this, but I really believe Furman should stay away from the movie-verse.
mordecai6:
Yay a possibly interesting story that will be contradicted later by the 3rd
movie.

good lord! this is going to be BAD ASS! furman and movie-verse comics? INSTANT WIN. he should write transformers 3.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
anyway, woohoo for ravage being resurrected. his death was a very tragic and gruesome one and i hope to hell we get to see ether lazerbeak, or overkill. a movie overkill would be just plain BAD ass. and the story sounds like a very good one! now there really gonna screw with our heads! cant wait!
END SPOILERS!
and as far as the new bots and cons? i would love to see some of the ROTF scouts. especially depthcharge, ransack, and skystalker.

I think we can be pretty sure Bludgeons gonna show up in this.

At that scale a t-rex would just look weird. Quote: |

And Overkill was going to be in Reign of Starscream as one of Soundwave's personal attack squad. Obviously he was pulled for ROTF reasons, but he was going to be there along with Rumble, Laserbeak, and Ravage. But way smaller than a T-Rex. Deinonychus-sized probably.

His death-by-spine-rippage was evidently a late addition to the movie, and Furman was working based on the fact that he survived.

I can see Brawn, Bludgeon, Dirge, and Dunerunner making it into the comic with their toy designs. OMEGAPRIME1983:

So is this Arcee Spotlight going to deal with some of the gaps between RoS and Alliance?

I'm intruiged, I'll wait for the 5-page preview to decide if I pick it up or not.

And thanks for some of the "behind-the-scenes" stuff. That's always cool.
Autobot_Wall-E:
I am going to make an assumption that Breakaway is in this. They've been trying to work the poor guy in so much. Maybe Stratosphere? And a Optimus vs Soundwave fight must mean SW comes to Earth Kind of weird thatthey chose to bring back Ravage and Alice.
Smasher:
This sounds really good.
I've decided to get most things in trade form these days so I'll have to stay out of the forums until the trade is released.
I love it that Ravage is coming back, but it's interesting and unexpected to have Alice back, too.

| Good stuff this -always reminds me of Editori-Al Milgrom. neevnav:
Likely Breakaway will be one of the Autobots, seeing as he is a major part of the game. Perhaps Gears? Or Blazemaster? What other Autobots were toys that haven't appeared otherwise?

I put some of his designs for characters in the "Alliance" TPB. Those characters were ones we wanted to use for "Reign" but were denied. I know that he did a Rumble concept as well as a Laserbeak one. The Rumble one was cool because he had these sonic cannons on his arm that absorbed sound and converted it into energy for the cannons. The louder the battle, the stronger his weapons. Quote:

And thanks for some of the "behind-the-scenes" stuff. That's always cool. | Oh, don't apologize, please. Just wanted to clarify that I could easily be responsible for any dissatisfaction that someone might feel with the series. And no problem on anything "behind-the-scenes." I don't mind sharing if/when I can.
But if you have any questions for me on my stuff, feel free to PM me or start a new Q&A thread. I don't want to intrude on this thread. Thanks.
