MTV Geek has posted the five page preview for this week's upcoming issue of Transformers: Robots In Disguise #8 from IDW Publishing. Dinobot month continues as Slag, Sludge, Swoop and Snarl are lead into the Cybertronian Wilderness by Ironhide to search for lost Autobots. Also, Sky Lynx is there. (Hey, he has Dinobot Electrons right?)

This issue will hit comic shelves on Wednesday, August 8th. Click the link above to check out the preview and head back to the 2005 Boards to discuss.

The e-reader on that site is easily the worst thing ever.

It worked fine for me.

Strange looking Dinobots.

Sky Lynx? Good to know...I rec'd my first TPB about a week ago and can't wait to read the beginning of this series.

Just finished Autocracy the other day and Sky Lynx was in that series, good to see him.

They looked this way since Spotlight #1. I wish they would change to more G1 like or even FoC designs.

I think the dinobots and Ironhide are overrated but still, will probably wait for the trade on this series.

This issue needs to be a heavy hitter. The last four issues have all hung their hat on introducing or featuring the return of a character; and except for the Orion Pax issue, they've fell flat so far, especially Turmoil.

Dinobots need a major debrief to explain their absence from the main stage for the past... four years? I mean, if nothing else, what the hell were they doing during The Surge? I trust Mr. Barber quite a bit, so I don't expect the Dinobots just show up, "Hey guys, we're here now! We're gonna wander off and hang out with Ironhide. Cool? Alright, see ya!"

But I wanted to get my concerns out there.

This was an okay issue. Like others have mentioned, I don't care for the look of the Dinobots (or much of the art for that matter). MTMTE and Regeneration One are definitely keeping my interest more.

Can't wait RID is my favorite of the 2 ongoings.

I can't get it to zoom in enough to read the text.

On a side-note, I do hope there's a scene in there where the Dinobots pester Ironhide to tell them war stories.....

Double-clicking's not working for you?

Considering their reaction to Sky Lynx's stories, the IDW Dinobots might not be as too invested in war stories as much as their cartoon counterparts.

No, it doesn't. It only opens it even smaller in another window.

Ah, I see. I wasn't able to read the text; I always did like the idea of the Dinobots being fascinated by war stories, regardless of their intellect level. If what you just posted is any indication, the Dinobots and Sky Lynx scenes are certain to be highly entertaining! Thanks!

I really need to get into these comics...

Someday!

You mean you want Sludge to look like a dinosaur that doesn't even exist? No thanks! As a dinosaur nerd, I'm happy that he's a proper Apatosaurus. Many of the Dinobots looked ridiculous back in G1. They didn't even look like the dinosaurs we know today.
Dark Magnus
Interesting that the dinobots keeping their earth forms is a point of worry for Prowl, wonder why?

You remind me of Huffer's line from the G1 cartoon, something like, 'I thought we were making dinosaurs not Dinobots!' He thought it was hilarious. Nobody else laughed. Great moment!

One of the Dinobot heads in there did remind me somewhat of DOTM Laserbeak's charming mug. Nevertheless I'm quite accepting of most Dinobot interpretations and these are fine with me too.

I also admire your scientific acumen. As such I could have made a fool of myself quipping sharply that the Dinobots in G1 were perhaps less disguised and more shock troops who generally needed their own island to hide on. Or that ultimately they're no more or less nonexistent/fictional than a dinosaur that has been disproven by science.

I would not go so far as to ridicule the overtly robotic G1 designs though; this alone should waive any burden of Paleontology you might lay on the illustrators, industrial designers and the like who would have conceptualised these toys. I will defer to your seemingly extensive knowledge as to if said nonexistent dinosaur was invalidated when (what would become) the Dinobots were designed. Furthermore that the designers could have known - even if they wanted to be completely accurate - doesn't entirely mean they would or should be, with particular reference to the lack of internet at the time, and that font of human knowledge, wikipedia. I at least, could no more find someone living in a third world country today ridiculous for still thinking Pluto was a planet.

Can some one please explain to me why it is okay to call Slag "Slag" in comics, but not in cartoons or games? I don't get it
Ra88
Hey, you never know, the Dinobots might like the warstories of an actual warrior like them.

If I were to guess it's because comics are a different medium and aimed at an older crowd.

This is a perfect example of something I was thinking about just yesterday. I was admiring the cover art of a dvd and rolled my eyes at the censorship rating being plastered all over it and wondered if this sort of thing would ever happen to books or other printed publications. It's a wonder there isn't a rating in the sense that I, like you, consider comics to some extent targeted at an older demographic than animation.

However I wonder how many fans would really be missing out if the cartoons were rated high enough for Slag to be permissable.

FOC is rated T for Teens. I hear a lot worse than "slag," though I don't see how this is a bad word, on other T rated games.

To me I think that prowl is just curious since everyone else got their cybertron mode's back.

Exactly...it's a poor version of Comixology's. I couldn't see words even when I expanded it.

But on the flip side being able to actually see the Dinobots was no joy neither. Slag's head looked more like it was surrounded with sunflower petals. And Sludge's face was more "My little Pony-esk" than anything menacing.

So yeah they really should've used FOC's style.

Wow, am i the only one who likes these dinobot designs?

Sweet! Looking forward to this one, looks pretty promising actually. Can't wait to see the Dinobots in action, when I was a kid I was a total Dinosaur nerd so they've been favourites of mine since I got into Transformers, and Sky Lynx is doing stuff as well! Awesome.

"Slag" is British slang for "Slut", I don't know if it's really used anywhere else in the world, but like Ra88 said it's probably because the comics are generally aimed at an older audience, so it's changed to Slug or whatever just to avoid any issues with overseas audiences who might for some reason think they're calling a cartoon character "Slut" rather than "Waste-Material-From-Smelting-Metal/Cybertronian-Swear-Word".

So what do they call him in England then?

No. I do too. They're Roche's designs from way back in Spotlight Shockwave. They're awesome

In animated he was called Snarl, Scrapper named him it and even says in the episode he almost called him "Slag" but for some reason he took offence to it.
He was also called Snarl in the Robot Heroes toyline.
He's called Slug in Fall of Cybertron.
I think those are his only other appearances outside of the G1 cartoon and comics, at least that I'm aware of.

I thought you guys re-dubbed everything into British English to prevent children from picking up American English, undoing the work of your schools and what not.

Slag isn't the only word we disagree with meaning/usage. I can't wait until one of the human cast members introduces their Grandmother Fanny

Anyway, going back to the name and game, I still don't get it if the game is intended for a mature, teens, anyway.

I like how, given how often we have had to get accustomed to character designs changing at the drop of a hat, the Dinobot designs have remained consistent.

I'm not the greatest fan of Sludge in dinosaur mode, but the others look great.

Weren't these meant to be a one mission alt mode anyway - their metal bodies shielded in an approximation of flesh to protect them from the effects of the exposed Ore 13 on prehistoric Earth?

Yeah it was a one mission thing. I wonder if they explain why they kept them.
Dark Magnus
My only guess as to why they kept their earth modes is the dinobots have always been outcasts, so by having a strange appearance to boot, they can walk around as the anti-social crowd they've always been and other bots will cross the street to avoid them.
dunerunner123
This is looking great, im not sure why people dont like the designs.. they are robot dinosaurs and thats what they look like. I am pretty sure it will be explained why they decided to keep their modes considering how prowl is questioning it. One thing that i found odd was how prowl seems to support democracy for a leader. I would think he would be against the sort of thing considering how he cant accept the fact that the war is over.

Slag's name should only be changed in Europe so he doesn't sound stupid to the rest of the world.

I reeeeeeaaaalllly hope they aren't planning on taking Bumblebee down a "power corrupts" character arc.

Actually I think you'll find that 'slag' as a derogative term is pretty world-wide, and not merely isolated to the UK.

Much as I like Slag as a name, there's a reason Hasbro haven't used it officially for a long time.
BAD187
these dinobots look like shit, as bad as those foc ones. so far g1 are the only proper dinobots designs ive seen.
ORIO
My guess for the name Slag is in comics, they're not trying to market or sell anything with the name.

*shrugs* different story medium, different rules

I'm glad they didn't update these to the FOC designs. Not that those are bad at all, but if the dinos wanted to update their forms, why wouldn't they just go back to vehicles? I like what they're doing. Looking forward to this issue
