Phil Jimenez, one of the artists of the upcoming Transformers cross-over vent - Dark Cybertron, conducted an interview with Previews World. Within the interview, Phil talks about how he came about this job, the style and development of the artwork, and how his working relationship is with the other artists on the series. Additionally, the interview contains several clear preview pages from Dark Cybertron!

It's not Milne or Roche, but it looks DAMN good. I'm glad for this.
Angelwave
Holy crap! That artwork does look amazing! Not in a stylized way, but crisp, clean, and full of life. It's almost as if he envisioned the art animated and translated it to a static medium.

I have a feeling Dark Cybertron is going to be AWESOME!!!! Those preview pages look amazing.
General Tekno
Neat that he got the job in part because of his DC/Transformers crossover pitch that didn't go anywhere. His promo art for that concept was pretty cool.

Jimenez may be a clone of George Pérez, but there are far worse artists whose style to follow.
Hadlen_Weltall
Wow!

A few years back, I was in a discussion at the comic shop with the local "Expert" (a guy who was a perfect copy of the Simpsons character) who said "robot artists are lazy compared to 'real' artists."

Well, time for him to suck it!
Murasame
Going to be awesome!
DJW107PRIME
Okay fine quality art will not be an issue needing attention in this run I see.

By and large the line work is great, a solid foundation for the colouring and use of shade that I feel deserve a mention. I'm looking forward to this too with the attendant Generations figures and (toy) speculation!

Would I be right in suggesting that one of the minor spoilers has to do with the link between a member of Orion Pax's crew and events in the last MTMTE installment? Other spoilers may have escaped me; I have some serious catching up to do with RiD.
Jalaguy
You guys do realise that the actual line art is Andrew Griffith, right?

Also, Shockwave and Dreadwing are apparently in the Batcave...

Yeah it says so in the interview I'm just weirded out just how much he changed from his usual RID issues. Look like both him and Perez are bringing in their A++ game there. If the writing is as good as this art and if the quality of the art remain consistent over different artist we might be looking at not only the bet IDW event but the best even in Transformers comic history.
Pale Horse
Wait...that's AG's line art!?!?

It looks SO much better than the sort of bumpy oddly proportioned bots from RiD who look like they would experience pain just by walking around.

Be sure to tell him how Clayton Crain and Jim Lee have also both worked on Transformers

Hell, why not bring up the stuff that "real" artists have drawn where they really don't have a handle on the robots?

Like Heart of Darkness.

Seriously, that Jimenez can draw robots this well is pretty fantastic; there's a lot of robot artists who can't do humans well and vice versa.
Wrecker217
That's no sun... That's Shockwave.
VaderPrime1
Looks good! And it's not that Ramondelli junk, so I can actually get into it still.
RatTrap1985
Shockwave looks awesome. I also think it is really cool that Jimenez has done all the rough outs.
Biotoakid
Mmmm a good artist that's not the star children Roche and Milne delishush
EightiesKid
Jimenez does very good work. I remember seeing him on a marvel panel at SDCC several years back and I was amazed at how young he seemed. Very talented guy.

So wait, let me get this right:
Jiminez did layouts/breakdowns
Andrew Griffith and Brendan Cahill did finishes
There's probably an inker or two
Colors also
Two writers

That's fuckin' teamwork!

Well it's going to last 12 issue and was aparently plan for quite some time and it's going to serve as advertisment for the comic books in general seeing how all 12 issue will be coming with Generation toys.

I think it's pretty sure that everyone will try to do their best for this event that's why I have high hopes for it. Unlike the last two (three if you count Infestation) it actaully has a competent team behind it and it's though out.

I never understood why robots brings out the inner-snob in people and get such disdain when the people talking that ish are fans of grown adults that run around in multi-colored tights.

"Real" artists. Yeah, I bet the real artists that guy was talking about draw women with 40DD breasts with a right-angle back.

Jim Lee has drawn Transformers? Did he suck the life out of them too?

Also, given the bump in quality for Griffith, "breakdowns" for Jiminez is probably something closer to "just needs to be inked" given the amount of detail PJ is capable of.
SouthtownKid
Wow, there's an artist I never expected to see on TF.

"Finishes" are inks. They're inks over loose pencils (aka "breakdowns"). So basically, the inker has to be a good enough artist to tighten up the pencils him/herself and then ink them.

Breakdowns are when the penciler has blocked in the figures and backgrounds, but hasn't done any of the light-sourcing/shading or indicated any textures. So finishing is actually quite a bit of work. But at least the storytelling is all there.

He's only done some cover art very early in his career.

The art looks great!
