Nick Roche has unveiled the line art for a print that he will be selling this year at Auto Assembly. The print collects the whole core cast of the More than Meets the Eye ongoing - it's a print showcasing the Crusadercons of the Lost Light! The print will be colored by Josh Burcham, and the colored version will be made available online for your viewing pleasure in the next day or so. For now, check out the lineart on Nick's blog.

Come and meet Nick Roche along with all the other Auto Assembly 2012 guests including Guests of Honor Townsend Coleman, Michael Bell and Paul Eiding this weekend 3-5 August at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham, England, where there will be Olympic levels of fun on offer.

SPLIT LIP
Oh my God this is incredible.

Swerve looks incredible.
Sol Fury
I don't normally get prints (lack of room to properly display them) but WOW, yes I shall get me one of these.
MegaHavok
Man I would love one of these, is there anybody that can pick me up one or does nick sell them on a site later?
Crystal Convoy
That's awesome. I want one.
Shatterpoint
I want this tatooed on my chest.
Mechafire
15/10 fuckin HOT
Infosaur
should we be reading too much into any ommissions?

I didn't know Roddy's boots were so big!

Frickin Ronin Cyclonus is excellent.
DarthCrusher
PLEASE tell me that these will be available online somewhere after the fact...
YoungPrime
Cyclonus is too small.
Autobot X
Are these the designs that everyone's been going crazy for? Not trying to troll or anything, but...

ORIO
I need someone to get that for me!

PLZ?
shroobmaster
I don't recall Drift having such huge thigs nor Rodimus having Megaman-size boots.

Everybody else looks fine, never realized Whirl was THAT tall.

Isn't Brainstorm the guy to Drift's left?
Ryoku
Coming from someone completely ignorant of comic artists, this guy is a really good artist. I just don't like his Transformers designs. I was very happy when MTMTE #2 introduced the new artist who made things look a little more to my tastes.

But I would not mind seeing this artist doing any other type of comic.
Rotorstorm
I want it purely because of Swerve and Rung.

Shame there isn't Brainstorm on there but you need to draw the line and there are 200 odd crew on the lost light.

No, I don't think anyone's been going crazy for the designs. They've just been going to crazy for the COMIC. Happily, we are finally at a place with Transformers comics where enjoyment of the story and the quality of the storytelling in the artwork is actually being put first again, instead of the obsessive-compulsive need certain artists have had to mechanically redesign the characters over and over again and for that element to be trumpeted as the most important thing about them. Thanks for that, Dreamwave.
LEADERS_MATRIX
I just don't get it, Nick Roche, is not a TF artist,he's a good artist just hate his TF heads are all to big, feet way to big, and the arms are to skinny.
Am I alone on not liking his stuff?
artiepants
I really miss the Nick that drew Transformers that looked like, ya know, Transformers. I can't stand the style on this, Hot Rod And Whirl are just... I don't even know what to say ~ rediculous I guess....

And this is no knock on the technical merits, his skills are just fine, it just looks like the cast of a Mega Man game, not like Transformers. It's not quite "Animated" bad, but close.

(and I really do like a variety of styles when it comes to my TF art, I just don't like 'Em this goofy)
IaconStargazer
Now that is pretty darn cool.

Are you kidding? Hot Rod looking like a Mega Man character is great!

I am loving the crap outta this print. Is there any way to get it even if you aren't going to Auto Assembly? Because I would gladly frame this in glorious color and hang it with my collection.
ZacWilliam
Nick Roche is an AWESOME TF artist. He can draw everything TF forever and I'd be thrilled. He just has so much life, character and personality in his art. It is glorious.

-ZacWilliam, also, as someone else said, it's not his art or designs that everyone's been going nuts for, it's the MTMTE comic, and mostly it's amazing writing, characterization and story. Nicky's great but he's only drawn 2 issues of 8. You should be reading the book regardless of whether you like his art. It's that good.
Tux Chaos X
Even when Nick was doing MTMTE, his style was a lot more toned down than this; the print seems to be overly exaggerated on purpose, just to highlight his own brand of illustration.
Switch625
I've heard the comic was good, but I can't stand the artwork - too stylized and cartoony - and, combined with the $4 price tag, that's enough to keep me from checking it out.

and boy howdy are you missing out. between the excellent dialogue, the well scripted plot, and the fact that each individual issue contains a whole tale, as opposed to other books which take 6+ issues per story, This book is not just the best Transformers comic, it is THE best comic currently published period save perhaps for Atomic Robo.
Sol Fury
I'll echo that sentiment. The story is well written, with a good balance of humour, drama and suspense, and there's enough hooks being written into the stories to keep you coming back to see how things play out. And, as Kaijumaster stated, the pacing is good, with each issue being self contained enough to pick up and enjoy as a stand alone or as a part of the ongoing story arc.

The counterpart book, Robots in Disguise, is just as good in my opinion.

As Transformers fans, these comics are the best we have had in years. Long may they continue.

Alex Milne has done a pretty good job of taking the more outlandishly cartoony look of these designs and "squaring them off" in a way that looks a lot better to me, gradually to, his first issue looked almost the same as Roche but (to my eye at least) he's gradually pushed them more to looking like Transformers issue by issue.

Cool!

well they don't transform in the actual picture, but they can transform in the comic series
grindcore138
Oh man, that's awesome! I reeeeeeeeally hope these go up for sale after AA.
Ironhide4
Nick is not only a great artist but a very nice individual when you meet him so from a fellow Irish man I like seeing his designs and this reinvention I like myself. It's very different and you can separate characters instantly but are still 100% recognizable. Top marks for this, I especially like his Ultra Magnus, Cyclonus, Drift and Hot Rod.

I fully agree! they look cocky and anorexic. The only one I really like is Ultra Magnus
[Wing_Saber-X]
Like it :3
alot!
Esquilax79
Gotta agree with a lot of the people. I'm not a big fan of the art-style. It reminds me of a more detailed TF Animated.. BUT it's decent, enjoyable, and I can understand what's going on. Most importantly is the story!!! I genuinely look forward to this comic despite the art. And hey.. at least I'm not afraid they're going to eat my soul (with their eyes) when they look at me. (like in TF ongoing 1-6 where they were overly Bayized and all looked like complex robot monsters)
Scaleface
Looks like Transformers Gundam Animated. That was not a compliment.

I feel largely the same way - I appreciate Roche's ability but I'm not personally crazy about the way some of the characters are rendered. Rodimus and Drift in particular. I find it a little distracting when they appear this way.

That said, I think the way he renders characters like Swerve, Ultra Magnus, and Tail Gate to be fantastic. It's almost like he's employing two different styles. I don't get it.
blsbranded
only ultra magnus is looking good to me...
ORIO
Hot damn. Good job Josh!
Thundershot
Love it love it love it. Transformers comics are readable again and they're better than ever. I just wish Brainstorm was there...
DestronGenerals
Hopefully there's not a reason that Brainstorm isn't there
ZacWilliam
Looks even more awesome in color. I would completely buy that and frame it. Awesome art.

-ZacWilliam, if he were rich, would just pay Nick to do a cast shot of every year of TF toys year by year. LOVE all the character and personality he brings to it.

HOT ROD...DRIFT...MAGNUS...I have more interest in THIS cast than Prime

now thats a very reasonable statement!

I find this style refreshing!
Nick is putting his own stamp on the art.... and as long as its expressive and the story telling is good, I'm not complaining!

I like that IDW is experimenting with different art styles and takes on these characters.
bossprime
Honestly I do prefer Nick's art from lsotw but I feel that this comic wouldn't the same without this style Nick and Milne are using, it adds so much more characterization to the story and you feel like you are reading about characters, so basically I've seen better art but this style is one of the many things that make this comic special
