Comic Book Resources has just put up a new interview with Transformers Drift: Empire of Stone writer Shane McCarthy. Shane discusses the new series as a whole as well as the Drift character himself, the book’s artwork, his thoughts on the live action movies, and the future.
Check it out after the jump, and be sure to pick up Transformers Drift: Empire of Stone #1 when it releases on November 26!

I'm glad to know we'll be getting more Drift

McCarthy better write a good story in the next Drift mini series ,thats what i just want!

The Big irony is AOE drift was infinetly more interesting and entertaining then Mcarthy's Drift
Pale Horse
I was shocked to see a post in a back water corner of the internet on some rarely travelled forums about someone being excited that "McCarthy's Drift" is coming back because there are people who "love" that incarnation of the character.
I won't be buying this or Windblade part 2: 2nd Grade Art Doodles…heck, I'm barely holding on to buying RiD each month at this point. Good thing MTMTE is still around.

Yup, drop an F bomb and it doesn't matter what you had to say.
Fuck.

Now I'm worried about the comic. The comic has no connection and all the good character development Drift made, seems to be tossed out of the window. Like "Drift is my character, I can do with him, what I want. You developed him wrong. I rectify that!"
WilyMech
I seen the movie. Unfortunately I thought Drift portrayal is one of few highlights of the movie. All the portrayal characters were off though. Movie is one of worst movies I had seen. So I am standing with Shane with this.
Rob
I agree (I said it earlier but it was lost to the sea of posts).
Wolfguard
Good thing he said "as a white guy" because that totally legitimizes his stance.
As someone who's only half white, I'm of the opinion that maybe he could've considered that Movie Drift had more in common with or simply liked the history relating to the samurai, and thus sought to emulate their appearance?
PC = BS

I'll be reading this solely to see what the deal is with Gigatron.

Actually it's Barber's job as editor to ensure that the character is portrayed consistently.

The previous Drift mini was fairly readable, but after Roberts' fantastic take on the character, I can't summon up any enthusiasm for Drift potentially returning to his roots as an anime stock character. I don't oppose McCarthy writing stuff on principle – many of AHM's problems can be blamed as much on IDW editorial as on him, and Mars Attacks proved he can write an entertaining comic – but I just don't find his version of Drift interesting. He's just… there. *shrugs*
(Specifically, Drift was that kind of anime character that does cool sword stuff effortlessly and then quietly pushes their glasses back up the bridge of their nose.)

I'm going to try to be cautiously optimistic. I'm also worried about what McCarthy said in that interview, but at the end of the day it's still a mini that can easily be swept under the rug. There are things I love about characters in the IDW universe despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of their origin issues.

i liked Shane`s work in the past , i know alot of people hate AHM but compared to Furman`s work prior, it was a breath of fresh air at the time .I looked forward to each issue when it came out over that summer . The first drift mini was OK, i thought the spotlight was better . Anything Costa did after that almost made me quit buying comics all together . Pain and agony of terrible books . Roberts saved the day .
Reading the hate on Shane in here is really disappointing . I respect that everyone has there unique likes and dislikes but jebus murphy ….
Its already been said but it is His creation , his contribution to our common fandom . If he isn't nuts about others take on his personal work , that is his business . Especially if its associated with Bay ( personally, i cant blame him for being sad in the pants about it )
ill be buying this series

You're literally literal!
Apparently eloquence is canceled out on account of profanity now. It's like being back in sixth grade writing essays again.

Just as I figured, a lot of people seem to be already giving up on the mini-series even though it isn't out yet. People still haven't gotten over this silly animosity towards Drift? Its like 2008 all over again…
You then go on to do the exact thing you got so angry at Shane for doing by saying the way he portrayed Drift (You know, the guy who created Drift) was bad. To you it was bad, I happened to like it. I have absolutely nothing against how Drift was portrayed by Roberts, but I don't have any issue with how Shane portrayed him either. I don't know exactly what's gotten you so wound up over this. The amount of anger and hostility in this thread is kind of astounding.
The last time I checked, my name isn't "nobody".
Not like dismissing the previous characterization as a "brooding loner", right? Among the other cute insults I've seen in this thread.
Not really. He got angry at an interview and spoke his opinion on it, colorful language and all. Real mature stuff.
This. You know what a real "bitch move" is? Telling someone who created a character that the way "they" made their own creation is somehow wrong.
To be honest, I'm actually kinda surprised people are still sour over Shane and Drift, how angry they get over something so trivial. Get over it, no matter how much you hate Shane, Drift or his writing, this Mini-series is still gonna be made, if you hate him so much, don't buy it. End of story, move on. I knew this was gonna happen the moment I saw Shane was gonna write the next mini-series.
I also don't agree with what he said about Drift's movie appearance, but again, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm not gonna just insult the guy and call him stupid for having an opinion, that would be childish.
Part of growing up is realizing others have opinions and dealing with it. So, deal with it.
Rob
Although I think it certainly wouldn't hurt to speak with Roberts, but considering that McCarthy spoke with the most important man in regards to continuity, the editor (Barber), I am not too worried about it.
Napalm
^^ Definitely. Ratchet went from wanting to knock the fuck out of the guy whenever he opened his mouth to helping him back on his feet when the crowd were baying for his blood.
Nocturne
I was looking forward to EoS with hopeful optimism but now I am getting a bit worried. I know Shane created Drift but to learn that he's not chatting withRoberts at all is surprising. Drift is his baby but Roberts is the one who's done all the hard work of raising him, he needs to be talking with him because EVERYTHING that has shaped Drift has been a result of Roberts writing. The fact that he refers to Drift as 'hippy dippy' shows that Shane just doesn't get the current Drift. I'm especially worried about him writing Drift and Ratchet's relationship because it's one of my favourite things about those two. I can only hope that he meant to say the hippy dippy in a joking way.
