James Roberts Drops Teasers More Than Meets the Eye #15

mtmte15
The uncomparable scribe of IDW's Transformers More Than Meets the Eye has posted on the IDW publishing forums. In this post he teases a few things regarding next weeks issue of More Than Meets The Eye in which we'll get to see the crew of the Lost Light go head to head with Overlord. If you're familiar with IDW's version of Overlord, you know that what's in store for next will not be pretty. James has provided youtube links to a few songs he's had in mind for the issue for fans to digest or serve as a soundtrack if they choose. Some of the song titles themselves may be considered spoilers themselves, so please proceed with caution!

James has provided the following bits for fans to drool over in anticipation though:

Here is this months dialogue snippet: "I really don't know if I can forgive you for this."

One last thing: I plan MTMTE out very carefully, and have done since the start. You know, grand plans and all that. In this issue, for the first time, and in connection with a certain character, I changed the grand plan. When the dust settles, and assuming you're still talking to me, and assuming people want to know, I'll spill the beans.

See you next month for the aftermath.

What? MTMTE #15 is out next Wednesday, you say? Really? Well I never. It seems like only a fortnight ago I was trying to whet your appetite with regards to issue #14.

As most of us know, the new issue contains a story called "Under Cold Blue Stars", which is lifted from a Josh Rouse song. The song's really nice, but has nothing to do with the contents of the issue beyond the fact that, y'know, the battle takes place, um, under some stars.

For a long, long time this story was going to be called "Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?", after a fantastic song by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, and much as I like the idea of interrogative story titles, it was too meta (and it would have made me sound very presumptuous and you'd have wanted to pelt me with bricks).

"First of the Gang to Die" (a Morrissey song) was another contender. I do come up with my own titles sometimes, you know. Anyway, I've posted a link to the Moz track on my Twitter account and I think it's been added to the ever-expanding MTMTE soundtrack thread.

The two songs I have for this issue are:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24TcOAjhonU

This is a cover of great Nick Cave song. I'm posting it because of the heat and passion and anguish, rather than the (phenomenally good) lyrics.

And here's a more traditional rabble-rouser:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVfxReLQ7tQ

Here is this month's dialog snippet:

"I really don't know if I can forgive you for this."

One last thing: I plan MTMTE out very carefully, and have done since the start. You know, grand plans and all that. In this issue, for the first time, and in connection with a certain character, I changed the grand plan. The dialogue part is interesting. I'm guessing it'll refer to either Drift or Chromedome, don't see that applying to someone like Brainstorm.

Oh man it just makes the wait harder!!! This man knows how to tease us.

I think the smart money is on one of those two. I am racking my brain for who the hell else it could be. Would he give us such an obvious piece of dialogue?

I imagine the change is Cyclonus......just got a hunch

Oh my.
CVprowl
if the measure of a good comic is how much i want to read forthcoming issues, then this thing takes the cake.

I've been suspecting that since something Roberts said a while back, that he felt one character he planned to do one thing wouldn't do that anymore. I bet that's Cyclonus killing Whirl
Calabask
The Cash song makes this sound like this episode is going to be rather nasty in terms of collateral damage. Overlord is going to wreck everyone, and I think the person being referred to is Chromedome, and I suspect the person who says it is Rewind. I'm going to read this issue to that Cash song, because, really. It's very, very fitting for a reckoning, and /that/ is what is going to occur here.

I'll write this ambiguously so as not to compromise your spoiler cover. The grudge/friction between the two characters may lead one to rescue the other from danger. A bit ironic maybe, but it reminds me of The Guns of Navarone. Or, more pertinently for the fan community, the TF: Prime episode where Bulkhead Rescues Breakdown from MECH; 'No rescue, no revenge.'.

With the two characters you mention, maybe the threat and distrust will simmer on a while longer, or they could gain respect for each other from this threat...

If they both survive.

This bring me to another point. Others have suggested that these two should not die because the grudge gives the story tension and builds the characters.
By the time the main story in LSOTW took place, Guzzle had a pretty serious bone to pick with Kup and yet both survived deadly peril from no less than the same antagonist we see here; Overlord.

Just to be clear, I'd be a fool to call out Roberts for reusing Overlord. That's not what I'm doing; I knew that could happen since he and Roche used LSOTW to give him character, a reputation and of course let him live. I really like what the team's done so far in the two parallel comics and however they push our collective buttons here and after I will probably say 'well played'.

What I am saying to the fans who mentioned fatalities on previous threads is, should a (developing) tension/animosity between two characters make them immune from a peril that will or could cost at least one other character their lives?
CapnScumbone
Cyclonus and Whirl are both colorful and well-written. I think they survive. Plus, I gotta give Whirl the advantage in a fight. Might be wishful thinking.
soymonk
Should I get tissues ready to prepare weeping for Chromedome.

I wonder how the Necrobot will find their corpses. Perhaps the Lost Light crashes?
Nope

Maybe, just maybe, the Necrobot was actually erasing names from the list (i.e. Flywheels was dead and Chromedome and co. were still alive), not adding the names of the deceased. Doesn't explain why the list wasn't in any obvious order, and I highly doubt I'm right, but who knows?
AdyCarter
We still don't know that *that* was the necrobot.

Seems a little to obvious, I'm expecting it to be some form of mis-direction, perhaps its an institute bot going round trying to undo Shadowplayed people, perhaps its one of the legislators working through a list of threats.

Who knows, it could be anyone, but It seems a little too convenient and un Robertslike for it to actually be the necrobot sorting out a list of corpses.
DrTraveler
All I know is that I'm looking forward to this a lot.

And, I'll be really surprised if Drift lives through this one. It seems like there should be some karmic cost for being part of bringing Overlord on the ship and concealing him from the crew.

Judging by the cover for #16, and the fact that he isn't on anymore covers, he might not make it.

And we'll actually feel bad for it. Bravo, Roberts!

Which is really saying something considering how people just hated Drift when he was first introduced so long ago and probably wouldn't have minded him getting offed.

Oh my god no I'm gonna cry.

Thank god there's no school and I won't have to explain to my friends that I'm grief stricken over robots. (Though it wouldn't be the first time.)

Proof that Roberts is The Man who writers Transformers. Taking characters that are polarizing (Rodimus, Drift) or not well-known and used (Whirl, Swerve, Chromedome, Brainstorm) and making them the guys you want to follow.

He's my writing idol. I want to have my Transformers stories follow his method.

Indeed

Roberts writing has breathed new life into the transformers universe.

Hasbro should weave their toy marketing behind his stories. Roberts is able to make filler background characters shine in a spotlight and make you love them almost more then the icons we grew up with!

Hell, Hasbro should just bring back mini-comics, and have Roberts write every one of them! Can you imagine the depth the guy could bring to some fringe character? Those could hook them some new fans! I remember the days when techspecs used to give us insights into the characters, and they don't even have those anymore! Mini-comics would be the next best thing!

#16 takes place in the aftermath of Overlord's rampage, and it outright says that Drift leaves the Autobots. He isn't going to die in this issue.

No, but I'd bet the survivors find out he was culpable and then he gets his feels destructo'd/kicked out.

If anyone already voiced this, I bet Chromedome found out that Dominus switched sides and kept the info from Rewind.

Oh hell, DOMINUS IS TARN!!!

Obviously speculation, but if upon returning to Cybertron he fell in with the Decepticons, but more hardcore then we expect... Would be grounds for Chromedome to rewrite his memories in my book.

Continuity errors though, Tarn is already speculated as Heretech. Dominus and Rewind were Autobots. Considering high end ppl get punished in the Decepticon ranks, I don't really think Dominus could be a sixer.

......................wait. Maybe he's a spy ! and like you said, Chromedome did shadowplay on him
Nope
Agent 113, maybe?

Were they though? Chromedome said it-maybe he is lying, would explain the mask too. New to be bout Heretech though. Though i meant Chromedome did shadowplay on Rewind.

Think about Dominus-he was described as someone who didn't believe in the system that the little bots were automatically lower than anyone else. Very similar to Megatron's before Megatron even had those ideas. Definitely possible in my book.

Hmmm...the fact that Chromedome described his first meeting with Rewind as hearing him screaming out or something to that effect makes me believe that who Dominus IS, might be a red hearing. It's that he "Prowled" Rewind to make him forget finding Dominus all suicide'd.

I just read from a review that we're going to have a total Last Stand of the Wreckers Rotorstorm moment in #15.

FUCK NO! DON'T DO THAT TO ME AGAIN ROBERTS! NOT AGAIN NO! NO! NO!

As for the death toll 3 confirmed deaths, 2 more probably as dead as Rung was, and everyone else pretty much butchers to bits.

I...I'm not ready for this guys! I will never be ready! Anyone want to get ice cream and cry like a little bitch while reading this with me?

Where was this review?!

I will say this, as sudden as the death was, it had more of an impact on me than all of the fatalities in RID so far.

Not having any comic shops near me or being fond of reading electronically, I've just been following discussion and reading summaries of MTMTE so far, and that alone has been enough for me to become in love with the whole crew, and terrified to see who dies.
CVprowl
brainstorm and skids are my new favorites. please dont kill them.
shunquan
I doubt skids will die, the message from issue 1 warns the lost light team not to let a certain group take him away
CVprowl
i believe it said, "dont let THEM take skids"

so yeah, that should be an upcoming story arc.

who do you all suppose sent that message back to prowl? looks like the most likely is now blaster. i guess it always should have been. makes me think the whole skids arc should go down soon...
shunquan
On one hand I think it could be tailgate who sent the message back, nobody will be able to recognize his voice as the guys who discovered him are all on the LT, those stuck on cybertron might it as a prank.

On the other hand I think tailgate's one of the ones who bit the big one fighting overlord. He had his character moments already, I honestly don't think there's much left to do with him. Exposing him as a fraud might drive the lil guy to kill himself

nobody really heard the message anyway, right? it was prowl's open comm, he might have heard it, but probably wouldnt share the info anyways.
