That spotlight seems odd.

But given it's Roberts, odds are that we'll get to see some cool 'cons.
Yggdrasil
Man that Spotlight sound fun! Can't wait.
General Tekno
Oh wow, that MTMTE cover...
Smokescreen
Trailbreaker looks good! He was my very first TF when I was a kid so it's nice to see him get his own spotlight.
SenatorRatbat
Spotlight looks good. I need moar Roberts!
Mechafire
lol, that Trailcutter cover is great.
rung for life

They don't have a trademark on Trailbreaker anymore.

Also, RID cover is neet. Also, MTMTE cover worries me.
Hot Shot.
Trailcutter? Really?

Which hasn't stopped names like Hot Rod and Bombshell in comics before, because they're not aimed at kids who have trouble connecting faces to a alternate name.

Hasbro, we know who "Trailcutter" is supposed to be. We aren't stupid, and would like you to respect our preference to his original name. PLEASE stop forcing name changes in our comics as some ass-backwards way of marketing them.
Yggdrasil
I do wish they went with Trailblazer. Much cooler name than Trailcutter.

I don't really have a problem with the name changing if they played off it in MTMTE; like having all the other bots on the Lost Light calling him different names and having Tailgate ask him "whats with the different names?" and Trailbreaker tells the story of how he got the names Trailcutter and Trailblazer.
Girl Pants
This is looking to be pretty damn exciting. That cover makes it look like Bee, Metalhawk and Starscream will have to team up - that's certainly a cool and unexpected combination.

Sounds like it's going to hit the fan in MTMTE, I hope we don't have a LSotW-level bodycount, I'm really attached to the cast there. The cover with Drift certainly makes me wonder what that could be implying... very cool possibilities.

Super glad to see some non-A-listers get a Spotlight, it helps make them matter more and ultimately make them A-listers in their own way.
SMOG
I mean, I get that it's supposed to be funny and all, but there is no way I'm going to buy THAT cover for the Trailbreaker Spotlight. Somehow the cartoony face crosses over from stylistic license and into full-on MAD-magazine derpy.

Hard to say what Bombshell's fate will be, but we did see Hot Rod go to Rodimus, while still pretty much staying Hot Rod in essence. I think it's really Hasbro's way of protecting their investments. Trailbreaker and Trailblazer are probably off-limits for them, so Trailcutter is the best they could do, and they're trying to create some kind of unity with their brand by imposing the name changes on the comics too. I understand their logic, though it does feel a bit like trying to retcon ACTUAL history (as in, we all know him as Trailbreaker).

And just to be clear, I will NEVER refer to him as Trailcutter. Not in terms of toys, not in terms of referring to this comic. As far as I'm concerned, "Spotlight:Trailcutter" doesn't exist, and I'm going to give pained, patronizing looks to anyone who attempts to correct me.

I agree, but I'm sure it's already in use. A shame... I could have gotten behind that.

LOL, Trailbreaker has to take over Red Alert's job of being paranoid and seeing danger everywhere?

I am still miffed by the Hasbro-pushed standard name-changes - first Octane is now Tankor, then Hot Rod becomes Rodimus, now Trailbreaker Trailcutter... I'm glad they were not this pushy in the dreamwave era, lest we would have had Shockblast instead of Shockwave and Silverstreak instead of Bluestreak.
SPLIT LIP
Wow, people sure are angry about some second-string nobody getting a name change.

I love how the character is only just now recieving attention in comics, or anywhere really, now that he has a new name.
Bass X0
Rodimus Prime was sometimes just called "Rodimus" in season three.

I don't remember an instance during The Ultimate Weapon where he was called "Rodimus Prime" instead of just Rodimus.

Rodimus in IDW is more than Hot Rod, but less than Rodimus Prime. Hence Rodimus. He did go by the name Hot Rod for ages and he got his name changed by a significant event. He is still called Hot Rod in Regeneration One so its not a forced change.

Trailbreaker has been called both that and Trailcutter in IDW too, sometimes even in the same sentence. IDW is gradually changing his name from Trailbreaker to Trailcutter in the comics.

Hasbro wouldn't have forced the change overnight but name recognition with the product on the shelves is in their favor.
BB Shockwave
Hmm, just noticed the cover - Lockdown is back? Don't know many other Cons with hooks for hands, and with him and Drift having a shared past history, makes sense he'd come to the Lost Light.

Trailbreaker a second-string nobody?

He has a forcefield! And he ... well, he gets around! He was in Dinobot Hunt, and then got shot in the head by Scourge during Target 2006! And then he heroically spent his time in stasis until the coming of Unicron!

Nah, I am being sarcastic. I liked him for his unique ability and just for having a cool design.
Trailbreaker also has a special place in my heart because when translated to Hungarian, his name is synonymous with the Soviet Youth organization called, well, Trailbreakers - which was mandatory for every kid back before 1990 in any Soviet-occupied countries, like mine (thankfully I just missed the 'deadline' and was never a member... only for its pre-teen sub-organization, the "Little Drummers" - it was much the same, just with blue neckties).

And imagining Trailbreaker in a red tie and spouting communist propaganda just cracks me up.

My money is on him getting puzzled on some bad Nightmarefuel and hallucinating up a storm, or some such thing someone brewed. Possibly Swerve.

Now THAT is a spotlight I want to read! Doesn't matter which chracter!
Anguirus
I'm pretty sure that the name change is not un-connected with him having a Spotlight.

However, if they announce Spotlights for Bluestreak, Bombshell, and/or Shrapnel I'll be proved wrong.

Fortunately, I actually LIKE "Trailcutter." I found my Legends Trailbreaker and when I exclaimed in joy I actually SAID "Trailcutter!" I have NEVER done that with Generations "Darkmount" or "Sky Shadow." Honestly I think it's a more distinctive name. And I totally tryst Roberts to solve the discrepancy with wit and brevity.
ShiroPrime
So Drift managed to stay alive (a little longer)--good. Not looking forward to what happens next in MTMTE. *prays for favorites to survive* Screw it, all of them are my favorites.
rung for life
looks like we're probably going to have dreadlock back! (the evil drift?) or a nail one.
Torque
I wouldnt be surprised if they explain the name change in the comic-like maybe something happened, so he asked everyone to call him Trailcutter. Also, the primary reason I can think of for changing his name is to give us a toy. If them changing his comics name to Trailcutter is what it takes to get us a Classics Trailbreaker, I'm all for it!
O.Supreme
I'd rather they just refer to him as "Hey YOU..." Than Trailcutter Ugh.... how many more name copyrights are we going to have to suffer because of Hasbro. Heck IDW even calls the original Dinobot Triceratops as "Slag" even though his toy name is Snarl now, and Snarls name is ugh.... I forget.

MTMTE looks awesome as always.

Well "to cut a trail" mean to run away so the name Trailcutter can be interpreted as a coward.

I can already see it "Trailbreaker? More like TrailCUTTER! OLOLOLOLOLO!".

They can use the original names inside the comic, but not on the cover. It's the same reason why Captain Marvel can be called that inside a comic, but is always referred to as Shazam on the cover. It's a legal reality. They're not forcing anything.

THANK YOU.

Everyone's frothing at the mouth at Hasbro and blaming them for something that, frankly, is out of their control. Remember when the red cross symbols on Ratchet started being replaced with ECG symbols? That wasn't Hasbro "forcing a change"; the Red Cross is a serious legal entity that enforces that trademark with impunity. It's likely that someone recently got Trailbreaker and is doing the same thing; making sure that anywhere that shows that word either belongs to them or faces the wrath of a lawsuit. Hasbro just doesn't have the legal recourse to stick the term on something as prominent as a comic book cover, so they have to go with the name they'd been using for his latest figures.

And the Trailblazers are a basketball team (NBA, to be precise). No WAY Hasbro could use that one.
MechaV
Lockdown's hook hand is on the Trailcutter cover.
Kraken
Does Drift normally have an Autobot symbol on his chest? Just seems to have a grey square onthat cover...

Hmmmmmmm...
dunerunner123
Rid cover looks exciting yet it doesnt reveal all that much, which is probably a good thing, Mtmte looks interesting, looks like Drift may turn back to deadlock which could be interesting in the near future. As for trailcutter, I barely care about what the characters name is unless it's something like "Traildouche". anyways I think the title is actually a joke, James has said that he had called trailbreaker trailcutter in the annual just for the hell of it so i'm sure this is just James having more fun with the name.

Wow, that's a big fail when it comes to understanding the appeal of obscure characters in the fandom. You and 1984forever should start hanging out.

I would think that someone who's been around here as long as you would understand by now that part of the appeal of a long-lasting, expansive list of legacy characters, built around detailed original character profiles, is that every bot out there, no matter how obscure, is somebody's sentimental favourite... and Trailbreaker has certainly paid his dues by now. Respect your elders, kid!

Well Roberts did say on his twitter that we'll see a in-story reason why he went from Trailbreaker to Trailcutter.

I guess he does get a name change after all.
LegendAntihero
IDW has stopped using character faces on the covers of IDW collections. I bet Cyclonus would've fit as the cover for that volume.

That's pretty clearly a placeholder image, I think.

All good news.
Yggdrasil
Also according to Roberts twitter the season finale "Remain in the light" starts with #16 and ends with #20. Daym a five parter!

(on an unrelated note Roberts says that #14 is visualy the best looking MTMTE issue yet. I am trying so hard not to cream my pants from excitemnt right now)

The hook on the cover of Spotlight: Trail-whatever reminds me of Lockdown... Does G1 Lockdown (of Drift miniseries) have a hook as a hand?

Yeah, he does...

In fact, now that I look at them back-to-back, both hooks look REALLY similar, especially with how they both kinda have spikey things sticking off the edges.

Hmm...
Blitz Wing
Love what they're doing with MTMTE, RID and Trailbreaker.

Not impressed that 4 months from now, Regeneration 1 will be still in the middle of the story that is currently going on.

Yay, finally get to see the cover for RID TPB #3!
Arsenic
I thought RID TPB #3 will re-use the cover of Annual 2012.
...and there is original art! Yay!
