To tie in with the launch of Transformers Fall of Cybertron next week, IDW has launched a six-issue miniseries to tie in with the game. It features art by Dheeraj Verma and writing by John Barber of Transformers Robots in Disguise and Transformers Sector Seven fame. IDW has also sent us a press release to cover the launch of the series, read on to check it out.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IDW ANNOUNCES NEW TRANSFORMERS

DIGITAL MINISERIES!

DINOBOTS enter the TRANSFORMERS PRIME world for the first time ever!

San Diego, CA (August 15, 2012) – IDW Publishing, Hasbro, Activision, and High Moon Studios are thrilled to welcome the launch of the new digital comic series: TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON! Announced at Comic-Con International San Diego last month, and beginning today, this new series will offer fans an exclusive look at the story that precedes the explosive new game.

In the days leading up to the events of Activision and High Moon Studios’ TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON video game, we see the origin of the fearsome DINOBOTS as they encounter a secret DECEPTICON plot and take on a slew of enemies including SHOCKWAVE and the INSECTICONS!

"It's a lot of fun to have a chance to play in the sandbox of the FALL OF CYBERTRON game. I'm lucky enough to get to write one of our TRANSFORMERS ongoing comics, and edit the rest, but doing these stories in this setting... well, it's a real blast!” said writer JOHN BARBER.

BARBER continued "I sat down with DAVE CRAVENS, the head writer of the game at High Moon Studios, and we plotted out the whole comic one afternoon. It was great to get to work that closely with somebody so intimately involved in the game, so we could really make sure this comic actually fits in with the story the game is telling--and plays into the larger TRANSFORMERS mythology. Plus, anybody who knows me knows I love me some DINOBOTS, so it was a thrill to get to write them!"

Don’t miss TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON, a prequel to the much-anticipated videogame, written by Barber (Transformers: Robots in Disguise) with art by Dheeraj Verma (Escape of the Living Dead)!

The series will run for six digital-only installments on a bi-weekly schedule, and will be available all digital platforms including Apple iOS, Android, and online.

TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON ($0.99, 8 pages; full color) will be available in August in IDW’s Apple iPad™, iPhone® and iPod touch®, apps – Transformers Comics and IDW Comics, and on the Web at read.idwpublishing.com. The series will also be featured in the Comics by comiXology platform for iOS, Android, Web and Kindle Fire, and Comics + by iVerse.

TRANSFORMERS PRIME – RAGE OF THE DINOBOTS #1 ($3.99, 32 pages; full color) will be available in November 2012.

The comixology app shows it as being written by John Barber, art by Dheeraj Verma. 1st issue of 6.

People think I'm talking out of my ass when I say "these people have no respect for the franchise".

What kind of Decepticons is the LSC fighting? They look like ancient Cybertronians or some kind of droids, but they are meant to be present day troops.

That area they were fighting in wasn't the sea of rust. It just looked like an Earth desert with some metal plates lying around.

Does this book have an editor? There is a lack of communication between the writer and the artist that needs to be cleared up fast.
YoungPrime
Pass! The are looks horrible. Like something they came up with at the last minute.
Violator
hmm, I might have to the let Jolly Roger fly on this one.

Yup you're right. The Transformers comic app changed it to Verma and Barber.

I think those "droids" represent the droids from the game. I guess we'll find out soon.

So only IOS devices? This didn't show up on Playstation network comics section?

Missed opportunity. I thought the Vita would have kept it going.
UltraMagnus3786
Where are you Tim Formas?! We need a review =)
Cadbane
I am game for the full comic series as well as the FOC concept art book, or whatother those guys cook.
Bumblebee765
I really wish this wasn't digital, but I'll get around to getting it eventually!

Also, ComiXology isn't iOS only. Android, Kindle, Web browser, whatever.

For a buck, it wasn't a bad start. The Decepticons are definitely droids from the game.
Obsidian X
I hope it will get a paper release down the line, otherwise I wont read it.
jogproof
that was a relatively good first issue for this cheap and it is some nice back story for the game.
Acteon
I was right there until I saw it was written by Barber. Sorry, pass

Same here, although I'll still read it, it may just take me a while before I get around to it rather than if it's a paper release...
Transformed
How much are these selling for? And how long are each issues?
Sharpfinger
Oh! A new series that's what IDW is doing... maybe they can now FIX the Transformers Classics releases on ComiXology!!!

Vol 3 - Ends in Transformers G1 #38
Vol 4 - Begins in Transformers G1 #47
Vol 6 - Didn't have "The Movie" adaptation as announced. It is in the Summary but the comic ends before.

Marvelous. Oh... and no mail answer...
And people complains about the Club... FunPub answers my mail.

I enjoyed this. Also my first digital comic. The experience was pretty decent. The web interface is just fine. I will be picking up the rest of this and maybe some more digitals in the future.
GMANIFESS
Can someone give us a story synopsis for those without IOS devices?

ComiXology works on PC and Android devices. I read my comics using a Motorola Xoom and a Samsung Galaxy Nexus X. Usually is a very good experience.

Oh ok. Thanks.

EDIT:
Got it.
Anyone figure out an easy hack to print those pages out?
amd098
did they just rename slag as slug?
and wow. the art was pretty bad, and story was weak.

sadly you cant get digi refunds haha
MaxLinden
Pretty shitty cover...
It looks like Grimlock is trying to hug Optimus to death well Optimus is running for dear life!
GMANIFESS
If this is a prequel why does it look like the Grimlock's team already have dino alts...?
To difficult to come up with some Cybertronian looking kibble?
This is not IDW's best effort.

And i recall seeing something about Slag being changed to Slug since slag is an offensive term in Europe or something. Not sure.

ya that really confused me. would it have been so hard to draw the war within designs? hell, they actually made WFC cybertronian designs for Swoop and Grimlock. this just comes across as lazy.
Bumblebee765
Anybody think we might get a paperback collection book after all of them are released? I really hope so!
ErbFan28
I know this doesn't have much to do with this comic, but I'm ready for that comic that ties the show and the games together
Gridlock1987
Wow... That was a waste. Dinobots kick ass, and don't like taking orders. You don't say! If the next five issue will be the same, than this story is worthless.
1984forever
That Swoop transformation in #2. Yikes!

Still it's good to have something to read on a otherwise Transformerless week.
Onslaught24
nice story. the looks of the characters almost made me hurl though. especially Starscream and Shockwave
Ryoku
Eh, it was okay. Why is Swoop a land vehicle though?

Also, Starscreams face... WTF?
rattimus prime
Who Ever made swoop a Tank deserves to get Slapped across the face with some common sense. 1) his name is swoop, 2)they could of at least took off the wings and gave him treads, 3) so apparently Shockwave is gonna turn a tank into a Flying dinosaur for shits and giggles, because we all know how well all the tank-formers can fly

Now I'm inspired to do some Shockwave fan art reading "For Shits and Giggles" across the top! Eh, I'll do it tomorrow...

Edit: Here it is:

exactly, i know that IDW is a third party comic book company and they dont want to take their big artists off the main titles but they need to step their game up on these DIgital comic, they could have gotten Livo at the least
Bumblebee765
Does anybody know if this could be made into a physical book, like a trade paperback? Have any past TransFormers digital comics been released like that?

The whole thing's being released in annual format in March.
Chris McFeely
And yes, the previous Transformers digital series, "Autocracy", was all collected into one TPB.

Ah, I thought so. I thought I remembered seeing that one at Barnes and Noble about a month ago, but I couldn't remember if it was digital or not, and I only glanced at it, so I thought I might have remembered the wrong title. Thanks!
