IDW's The TRANSFORMERS #1 Sells Out

Second printing of new ongoing TRANSFORMERS comics
available December 2nd

San Diego, CA (November 19, 2009) – The new TRANSFORMERS comics era has begun! After just one day in stores, The TRANSFORMERS #1 is already sold out through Diamond, and IDW Publishing will rush its inaugural ongoing comic to a second printing. Under license from Hasbro, Inc., the second printing of The TRANSFORMERS #1 will be available in comic stores on December 2nd, featuring a new cover by series artist Don Figueroa.

The first ongoing TRANSFORMERS comic series in five years, The TRANSFORMERS is a must-read for old and new fans. The TRANSFORMERS #1 starts the series off with two huge events – the death of IRONHIDE and subsequent resignation of OPTIMUS PRIME, the heroic leader of the AUTOBOTS.

“Launching an ongoing series based on a world-wide franchise like Hasbro’s TRANSFORMERS brand is not something we take lightly,” said Andy Schmidt, IDW’s TRANSFORMERS editor. “We know we have to make every issue count so that our readers are getting a great read every time and that our retailer partners are assured that they’ve got a product they can sell month after month. And this second printing is evidence that Mike and Don have succeeded at delivering exactly that.”

The TRANSFORMERS is helmed by Mike Costa (G.I.JOE: COBRA) with art and covers by returning, artistic dynamo Don Figueroa. The ongoing series is also the launching point for two new miniseries, TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE and TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS, debuting in December and January, respectively.

The TRANSFORMERS #1 (second printing, 32 pages, $3.99) will be available on December 2nd. Diamond order code #OCT09 8086.

OPTIMUS PRIME Resigns in New Comic Series

First ongoing comic series in five years begins new era for TRANSFORMERS

San Diego, CA (November 18, 2009) – The TRANSFORMERS enter a new and incredible era as IDW launches its inaugural ongoing comic series, expanding the company’s already impressive collection of TRANSFORMERS comics. Under license from Hasbro, The TRANSFORMERS starts off with two huge events – the death of IRONHIDE and subsequent resignation of OPTIMUS PRIME, the heroic leader of the AUTOBOTS.

“It’s simple and awesome at the same time. If you’ve never read a TRANSFORMERS comic, now’s the time,” said IDW’s TRANSFORMERS editor, Andy Schmidt. “The TRANSFORMERS takes your favorite characters and casts them in new and different ways that every fan can follow and will enjoy.”

In The TRANSFORMERS #1, the AUTOBOTS attempt a daring rescue mission that goes horribly wrong and OPTIMUS PRIME is forced to ask if the TRANSFORMERS have brought more harm than good to Earth. IRONHIDE’s death is the final straw for this noble leader, who turns himself in to the human authorities, leaving the AUTOBOTS leaderless.

The TRANSFORMERS is the first ongoing series in five years, and launches fan-favorite characters into new territory. Critically acclaimed writer Mike Costa (G.I. JOE: COBRA) helms this exciting new series, with intense and action-packed art by superstar Don Figueroa.

To help TRANSFORMERS fans rejoin the world of comics, IDW is also releasing TRANSFORMERS: Continuum, written by Schmidt himself. This special 32-page, ad-free book is now available in stores and runs through all the fun and excitement of the last five years worth of stories that paved the way for the new journey to begin.

The TRANSFORMERS is so action-packed, IDW has created two thrilling new miniseries accompanying the ongoing series to fit it all in: TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE and TRANFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS, debuting in December and January, respectively.

The TRANSFORMERS #1 (32 pages, $3.99) is now available in stores. Diamond order codes #SEP09 0852.
TRANSFORMERS: Continuum (32 pages, ad free, $3.99) is now available in stores. Diamond order codes #SEP09 0849.
TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE #1 (of 4; 32 pages, $3.99) will be available in stores in December. Diamond order code #OCT09 0954.
TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS #1 (of 5; $3.99, 32 page color) will be available in stores in January. Diamond order code #NOV09 0819.

TRANSFORMERS in Space

New comics miniseries launches in January

Rounds out trifecta of new TRANSFORMERS comics

San Diego, CA (November 10, 2009) – The TRANSFORMERS action just keeps coming, as IDW introduces a third new series in January - TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS. Under license from Hasbro, Inc., IDW explores yet another action-packed storyline, following the AUTOBOTS special operations crew on a mission to space to confront a new foe.

Fan-favorite writer and artist Nick Roche helms this five-issue series, which spins out of IDW's new ongoing TRANSFORMERS series. This story line gives fans a taste of what's been happening off of Earth as the WRECKERS investigate a prison planet that fell to the evil DECEPTICONS three years ago.

“TRANSFORMERS fans craving that outer-space action need look no further,” said IDW editor Andy Schmidt. “WRECKERS is straight science fiction and action—robots in space with the highest of stakes! But don’t look for all cheery fun and games here. It’s not called ‘Last Stand’ for nothing!”

TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS plots a course to a prison planet conquered by the DECEPTICONS during the war on Earth. With no communication in three years, the WRECKERS face an unknown foe, who just might tear SPRINGER, KUP, and their cadre of AUTOBOT heroes apart. Roche and All Hail Megatron’s Trevor Hutchison will provide covers.

TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS rounds out IDW’s new trifecta of TRANSFORMERS comics, which starts with the new TRANSFORMERS ongoing series on November 18th and includes TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE, coming in December.

“While TRANSFORMERS the ongoing series and TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE are both firmly rooted on Terra Firma, Last Stand of the WRECKERS gives fans a good indication of the impact the end of the AUTOBOT vs. DECEPTICON war is having on the rest of the TRANSFORMERS universe,” added Schmidt. “There is something great for every TRANSFORMERS fan right now in the IDW line-up of TRANSFORMERS comics.”

The TRANSFORMERS #1 ($3.99, 32 page color) will be available in stores on November 18, 2009. Diamond order code #SEP09 0852.

TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE #1 (of 4; $3.99, 32 page color) will be available in stores in December. Diamond order code #OCT09 0954.

TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS #1 (of 5; $3.99, 32 page color) will be available in stores in January. Diamond order code #NOV09 0819.
