DISCUSSION: (Jump To This Thread On The Boards)
Bête Noire:
I know I posted a listing of the translation I did for the Henkei Manga, but I had some free time so I went ahead and took snapshots of the manga itself and edited the English in myself (sorry, I don't have a scanner).

I left the onomatopoeia untouched because it would have obscured a lot of the art, and I felt the new bubbles were pushing that limit already - although I tried to keep that to a bare minimum.

Naturally, you'll still need to read this like a normal Japanese manga (right to left).

Enjoy!
Glitcher:
Sorry to hear you don't have a scanner. Are you sure there's no one in your area who can let you use theirs? It's difficult to make out what's going on in those mid-res snapshots, especially since the enlarged speech bubbles obscures a lot of the art.
REDLINE:
Taking a picture of the manga is fine, these turned out great, but It'd be nice if you hadn't resized them so small. Seeing as these are thumbnails that display in the thread, its ok to make them nice a large. you can go 800 wide with no problems.
slugslinger2004:
Thanks for the pics! They turned out pretty well, and I enjoyed the manga
Bête Noire:
Well, I originally sized them down because I needed to be able to fit them over at the Allspark, where I have severely limited uploading capabilities.

As this board is a little more forgiving, I've gone back and redone them at a larger resolution (1296x972 instead of 640x480).

I hope that helps.

I'm merely putting these up there for those fans that probably won't be able to read the manga that comes with their toys.

Therefore clear images were secondary to accessible sizes.
SydneyY:
Thank you for sharing with us! I love his art style. I gotta ask someone to hook me up with the booklet
TCracker:
Thanks for the translation dude! Really appreciate it.
Railguard:
I loved the the pics and thanks for the translation!!!

I had scanned all pages of the booklet in moderate resolution.
if you need I can upload them, do you?
Bête Noire:
Naw, after doing two separate versions today, I'm pretty spent on manga-editing. Thanks for the offer, tho.
Roanstalker:
I understand. I'm doing a 37 episode anime all by myself (I have only one guy editting it). Exhausting work...

btw in the third image, after Megatron says "Bah. Associating with worms. What can you do?", then he says "Perhaps you should so me, Optimus Prime". I don't know about anyone else but that doesn't make any sense to me. What's it supposed to say? Aside from that nice translation .
Bête Noire:
It makes perfect sense.
Megatron is asking Prime to show him what Prime can accomplish by working with the fleshlings. I couldn't really get the total Japanese nuance into that one since the verb used means "hang out" in slang whereas the literally meaning is to "copulate (for animals)." Actually, "slumming" might be a better fit, really. Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and change it. I like "slumming around" better.

The "What can you do?" is not a rhetorical question so much as it is a direct one.
It's a very Japanese thing, really. Kind of like Street Fighter Alpha 3 when the fight with Bison starts with saying "Show me an enjoyable fight" (loosely translated). Megatron basically says the same thing, but it references the previous statement regarding Prime's dubious associates.

Hope that made it clearer.
Roanstalker:
Not that. The part afterwards.
Silent_Magnus:
Are they actual using terms like "Autobot" and "Opitmus"(like in the movie)
or are you just changing them to make it easier on the people not familiar with the Japanese terms?
Roanstalker:
He changed it for our convenience .

Huh? I am confused.
You mean that after he tells Prime to show him what he can do, that they cut to an entirely different scene and never show Prime doing anything?

And yeah, I changed Destron, Cybertron, and Convoy to match their English counterparts.
No sense translating them into weird Japanese names - although I am more partial to "Micron" than I am "Minicon."
Roanstalker:
"Perhaps you should so me, Optimus Prime". Is that supposed to say "show me"?
Bête Noire:
Show him what can be accomplished by associating with fleshlings.

EDIT: N/M, I totally overlooked that.
God, how did I screw that up?
Roanstalker:
I was just saying you typed "so me" instead of "show me"...
Razorclaw:
How can one say that Transformers are marketed at the adult collectors when the level of this comic is like made for 7-year old kids.
Johnator:
Thanks a lot for doing this!

Yeah, I kept reading over it and it just wasn't registering.
Thanks for pointing that out. It's fixed now.

Toys are always first and foremost for children. Sure, the quality of the manga could be better, but what are you going to do?

Well, I could probably "so" you...

Actually, tho, some of the words that are used are pretty high-brow for a children's manga (Mostly anything that Megatron says). Hell, they weren't even in my Japanese-English dictionary. I had to go Japanese-Japanese for them shits.
Roanstalker:
Don't worry. Happens to me too when my editor comes to bitch about my translations.
Bête Noire:
So do you do translations as a trade or is it like fan-subbing?
Storm:
Am i the only one who saw Ramjet? there's another con besides him though. Soundwave?
Roanstalker:
I think you're right. He has the signature 'door' on his chest and cannon on his shoulder.
Bête Noire:
Yeah, I had mentioned that Ramjet and Soundwave were in the comic when I had simply typed out the translation w/o the pictures.

I'm hoping that it bodes well for a Henkei Ramjet and... well Music Label Soundwave is about as good as we can hope for when it comes to Classics Soundwave.

Oh! I thought it was supposed to be "sue me"! (Darned litigation-happy mindset of this country....)

(Thanks for the translation, BTW.)

You know that what I thought until Bete Noire made it more clear heh.
shumworld:
I find it humorous to see Megatron say "DECEPTIOCONS RETREAT". When there's only him and Starscream.

edit:
my mistake, after a second viewing i see Sound Wave and Ram Jet.
cleazer:
Thanks a lot for the translation! It was greatly appreciated.
flywheels:
Thanks for taking the time to translate, scan and post this!
GrantB:
Where are Bete Noir's original text-only translations? I'd like to see that thread.
Laser_Optimus:
Nice. I got a Classics Prime and Megatron coming and I hate it when I can't read the Manga that comes with the toys so thanks!

Still, one does sometimes wish that it was a little less kiddy, but... if you think about it... Classics is G1 updated... so this would make a perfect episode of G1 if it were extended to be a half hour cartoon.

All in all it's pretty snazy.

I deleted them from my post in the Henkei released thread and linked to this thread since they were redundant now that I have the images up.

Takara could stage a real coup by scooping the electronics out of MP3 Soundwave, remolding the chest/torso so that it can accomodate G1 Cassetticons, and releasing it at as a Henkei figure packed with G1 Laserbeak and/or Ravage.

(The Cassetticons/bots are about the only G1 figures, IMO, that can coexist with the Classics molds.)

It's been discussed before, of course, and likely it will never happen... but somehow it seems more likely now that Takara is a) releasing its own version of Classics and b) conspicuously placing Soundwave in the manga in an "eject" pose that only MP3 Soundwave can manage.

Thanks for photographing and translating the manga! Very helpful for us monolingual types.

Dude, I would by a gutted and retooled Music Label Soundwave in a heartbeat if it was released in the Henkei Classics line by Takara-Tomy...
chuckcjc:
Doesn't Henkei mean "Transform"? So this topic title means "Transform" Manga.

The toy line is called "Henkei!" "Henkei!" Transformers Classics, which I take to be Transform! Transform! Transformers. Right?

Overnight, the fan community has taken to call Japanese Transformers Classics "Henkei" as if it actually meant "Transformers" ... which it doesn't.

Made more sense when everyone just referred to them as "Takara Classics". Made sense back then.

/shrugs

I also never understood the WWI abbreviation for War Within. I always think they are referring to the actual World War 1-2 Gi-Joe crossover comic.
butz:
I can only hope that this forebodes the possibility of a classics Soundwave figure (I'd gladly buy a music label Soundwave with the electronics removed, regardless of whether or not it could hold tapes).

More specifically 'change shape'. The chinese call them 變形金剛 so that'll be even more confusing as it'll be 變形變形金剛 .
Bête Noire:
But with Transformers, Henkei does mean "transform" so yeah, the line is basically called "Transform! TRANSFORM! Transformers!"

Henkei is just the fandom's truncation for ease of conversation/posting.
If I had gone with the de facto translation of the line, most of you would be scratching your heads.

Plus, I think the name is absolutely ridiculous.
DisThunder:
Wow, never ceases to amaze how much people will ask for....
Appreciate the translation, read pretty well for me!

You can't. Just about every first chapter of TF manga is like this; introduce leaders, leaders fight and then call it a day.

And it's the autobot leader, of course, who goes on about beautiful blue earth.
