Tokyo Toy Show: Images of MP-07 Thundercracker, Alternity GT-R Convoy, & Henkei conv
Fantofan.jp has posted images from the 2008 Tokyo Toy Show, at which several upcoming Transformers items were shown off. The previously reported Nissan GT-R that has been solicited is actually for a new Transformers line from TakaraTomy called Transformers Alternity and the Nissan GT-R will be Convoy (Optimus Prime) and will be available in two colors (Ultimate Metal Silver and Vibrant Red). The first look at MP-07 Thundercracker is shown, as well as images of the upcoming Transformers Henkei (Japanese Classics) figures. The Henkei pictures also show off a prototype of Henkei Ratchet, which appears to be a repaint/remold of the Universe/Henkei Ironhide figure. Pictures can be seen at the FanToFan.jp link above or by clicking on the picture to the left.

Shin Densetsu:
Convoy looks awesome and the automorph gimmick is one of my favorites...if its a lot bigger than movie bumblebee, unlike the one shown, I may pick it up.

Classics look fantastic though...Ironhide is the most exciting figure of the line, I think. GREAT toy, GREAT character and not at all overdone...a triple threat, and a rarity.

What is this?

Agreed. I can't wait to get Ironhide and it is about time!
artiepants:
totally, Ironhide has gotten way to little love and had his name appropriated to many times, nice to see the OG finally get some love.
Melkava:
How well does the present MP seeker design lend itself to being used as a conehead? Is it as simple as change in transformation steps & new wings like the G1 toys?

Not well at all, actually. The head is very far back from the nosecone that folds down into the chest. The toy would really have to be redesigned almost from scratch to have a conehead design.

AKA forget about it.
Rattrap Primal:
I'm happy that Ironhide / Ratchet (any idea when Classics Ratchet is coming to the US?) will have a weapon and a actual head.

not true, only a very minor mod is needed to fit a cone head in place of the current one. the taller helmet fits quite nicely in-between the two halves of the torso. And yes, its been done. Check the Radicons.

This one is neither a classic plane nor a girl so I'd guess it's an enemy of sorts. It is prety cool but I'm really not into randomly buying one toy from a line here and there anymore.

What I don't understand is how Takara can have new toys on display but while people come back with pictures from these shows no-one ever seems to ask any questions. At least with Hasbro we get explanations about lines in advance of prototypes being shown.

And what's happened to the hobby scans F2F used to show every month? Do we know whether they've been asked to stop doing them by the magazines?
catch22:
The Alternity figure reminds me a lot of Boombox
SmokescreenSWE:
Maybe, maybe, I'll get the GTR and make him into Smokescreen (again). Smokescreen was a Nissan (Datsun) back then and this would make an even better homage than the Subaru, even with a slightly different transformation.
Coolhand:
I REALLY hope that the GT-R is 1:24 scale. I'm not too fussed about the character (though I am a little Primed-out at the mo) and I can take plastic OR metal, but it will look nowhere near as impressive on my desk if it's a tiny little deluxe. I guess I was hoping that this would be the direct continuation of the Alt/BT line and maybe that's colouring my veiw of it a little.

(Mind you, looking at the detail of the thing and the apparent complexity of the transformation, I'll be VERY impressed if they make it work at Delxue scale.)

Oh, and Thundercracker = Yum yum. I'll be getting that bad boy in a heartbeat.
Monkey-Hands:
The Nissan is freakinī awesome!!!!!

Ah, yeah, I just went and took a look at those. The only problem I'd have there is that it's a "false" head, not actually using the nosecone of the jet, which is what I was thinking and would be extremely awkward, since the jet nose ends up in the seeker's lower spine.

So yes, I suppose that it's possible if you ignore a different transformation and just put a false cone head in the place of a regular one.

GT-R transforms to robot. 1:32 scale model of collectible size. Automorph mechanism incorporated for ease of transformation. Heavy appearance making use of die-cast like Binaltech. New series! Red color scheme is for Convoy homage and silver is for the car's signature color.
This settles the scale and die-cast/plastic debate about the toy.
Fosterlager:
Automorph? 1:32? I hear hundreds of Alt/BT purists headbutting their screens.
QuinJester:
Thank goodness this monitor doesn't belong to me.

Their tears are so yummy and sweet!

The S.W.A.T. vehicle looks incredibly stupid next to Galvatron. Hopefully it looks better without the shield on top. Who drives around with a gigantic shield on top of their vehicle? That has to cut down on gas milage. Sheesh.

The Nissan looks pretty damn cool, well, the prototype does, I have no idea what I'm looking at when I see the Bumblebee comparison. It looks like a computer model?! Not worth my money at all.

Seeing all of the Autobots together like that makes me smile. It will be nice to have a good Ratchet and Ironhide after all of these years.

i think the comparison pic with BB is a very early prototype, where as the on display one is more of a final test shot...
Laser_Optimus:
Like I said in the other thread... 1:32 scale means I'll definently be buying this guy (and the diecast makes it worth the price I think) as I always liked the detail in the Alternators line, but I just didn't like the scale (never been a fan of 1:24 scale for cars) and I always felt that if they were to scale it down, but keep the same level of detail that they would have a winning line.

well, Insane Galvatron was going to use the nosecone for his ramjet custom, and the sucker was huge, like double the height of the shoulder pylons, huge.

Isnt that how it is on the G1 coneheads anyway?

The pic with BB appears to be an unfinished CGI rendering. It's devoid of a lot of detail, quite simplified and appears to just have surface shading.

Interested to note that Convoy has the seats on his forearms. Again.
