Tokyo Toy Show: Images of MP-07 Thundercracker, Alternity GT-R Convoy, & Henkei conv
Fantofan.jp has posted images from the 2008 Tokyo Toy Show, at which several upcoming Transformers items were shown off. The previously reported Nissan GT-R that has been solicited is actually for a new Transformers line from TakaraTomy called Transformers Alternity and the Nissan GT-R will be Convoy (Optimus Prime) and will be available in two colors (Ultimate Metal Silver and Vibrant Red). The first look at MP-07 Thundercracker is shown, as well as images of the upcoming Transformers Henkei (Japanese Classics) figures. The Henkei pictures also show off a prototype of Henkei Ratchet, which appears to be a repaint/remold of the Universe/Henkei Ironhide figure. Pictures can be seen at the FanToFan.jp link above or by clicking on the picture to the left.

Me neither, oh wait yes I do, it's scale, price and character choice. Scale is a bit of a bummer but hey these will go great with both classics and the movie figures (of which there are plenty) so they'll be loads of guys for him to hang out with. Character choice doesn't bother me, I buy TF's because they're fascinating to me mechanically not because they're character x or y. If you are bothered by it then it's easily changed.
As for Price, well this I am down on. On the one hand it's an awesomely detailed deluxe scale Alternator with a full interior (probably) steering and a clever transformation that reduces the width of the front. On the other hand it's a deluxe toy that costs the same money as a Voyager, I hope (read: pray) that it'll actually be diecast but I'm not going to hold my breath. Otehr then that we're just going to have to wait and see why this costs so much and determine it's worth accordingly. Chances are though that I'll be getting this and then eagerly awaiting the next, if there even is one, Takara seems to have been having some trouble lately and genuinely new figures from them have become a rarity.

That looks like it's just a mock up, probably a photo they took earlier in the production process and decided to re-use.

QFT, red for the win!

So to sum up I think this is awesome and will be ordering in due course. In the meantime could someone get the lowdown on this from Hasbro at TFcon? Maybe they're already planning to use it to bolster the movie/25 Aniversary line.
Ravenxl7:
Thundercracker actually looks pretty good, but the only thing there that interests me is the new Alternity Optimus Prime. I'm actually kinda hoping that Hasbro brings that over here. Out of the two paint-jobs that Takara's releasing, the one I would probably like most to come over here is the silver one, but depending on what it looks like, the red one might actually look better in the end.

SMOG:
The GTR looks pretty awesome in general. The robot mode is SWEEEET.

Yeah, it's Convoy... AGAIN. But a slight head mod or swap, and that silver version becomes a kickass Jazz, so that doesn't bother me too much.

Scale is still a confusing question... and with the price attached to it, it would be a deal breaker for me. I think Hasbro really should look at bringing out a more mass-market version of this mold, otherwise we're gonna have another Aveo debacle.

Fort Max:
That's just a reflection, it's not something you could use to make an accurate size assessment.
Chainclaw:
I'm getting the GT-R in both colours whether they're deluxe or voyager. If the GT-R is a deluxe however, it has an impressively detailed interior.
Feralstorm:
In recent (Tomy) years, Takara has been doing an excellent job of making stuff that interests me, but turns me away upon closer inspection.

Classics toys with more G1-accurate color and chrome parts? Count me i... Aw that's a shame.

New, smaller Alternator? Hey that's... Is THAT it? ... It's another Convoy ya say? ... Well, that's just ... never mind.

Of course, I'm one of those weird guys who don't like a zillion tiny fiddly bits and the 225-step transformations Takara enjoys for their home market toys.

Oh well, welcome, Alternity G2 Go-bot Optimus Prime for those that want him.
Max-prime:
Pre-ordered both GT-R ... reguradless of size the detail looks really good.
stevej:
MP Thundercracker will be mine. No worries there.

As for this Nissan. Erm... What is the point? I mean... It's like someone said "you know what we need - we need a new line that sits right in the middle of Classics, the movie line and Binaltech. That'll sell to collectors of all of the above!"

Of course what Einstein didn't realise was that by being out of scale with BT, a lot of BT collectors won't be interested (like me) and then by making it Convoy of all characters then it's not going to sit too well with EITHER movie OR Classics collections. I mean, lets say I actually collected Classics would I really need to buy Prowl and Convoy and then think I'd also like a Convoy that looks a bit like Prowl?

So... Is this a new line? If so will we see the same old characters trudged out again? Or is it just something Takara had to do because of a licencing agreement that was dawn up before BT went on haitus? Or something similar to that Chevy TF but that's more available?

Sorry to be negative but until I see where the rest of this line can go then color me completely uninterested. Takara have a habit of starting new toylines... Doing Convoy, Megs, a white Prime repaint and Hod Rod and then killing the line. Which is a bit like getting into a great new TV show and then seeing it cancelled after half a season. On a cliffhanger.

One for the Completists and Convoy-fetishists methinks until Takara can prove otherwise.

Steve.

I think the one awesome looking one pictured is the one we will be getting, not the one pictured with BB. the one pictured with BB looks like crap, the one pictured on display looks amazing. if what we get is the one on display i'll gladly pay 50 bucks for it, if it's the one with BB, I'll almost feel cheated because it looks NOTHING like the one on display.

MP Thundercracker! SOLD
Henkei Streak, Streaker, 'hide, 'bolt and Rachet? SOLD

Binaltech Convoy? *holds onto his pre-order for the minute* I'm going to cancel if I don't like how the final presentation looks. I can see him being kitbashed into Camshaft, easily.
Fort Max:

Vangelus:
Alternity looks like a really cool idea (Alternators on a mainline-Deluxe scale), but if they truly do cost $45 apiece I'd have to see one in person first.

Henkei Chrome continues to turn me off...the applications are getting a lot better, but then stuff like Prowl's spoiler still shows up.
SideSwipe82:
What a waste if the gtr is called convoy. I know alot of ppl could just swap the head and call it blue streak/prowl or even jazz. Ufortunately, in tf history, it will always be remembered as convoy. Doesn't takara know that the gtr has no resemblence to any optimus primes? That car suits best for prowl/bluesteak/or smokescreen or maybe jazz. Hope Hasbro USA will rename him just like they did with BT overdrive to ALT windcharger.

The big deal is we get to see their henkei decos.
So now people will have an easier time deciding whether or not to pick up the domestic release or import the henkei version.

On a different note I find that Convoy head to be pretty cool.
Reminds me of of the Bat Optimus Primal's head.

Although if they don't make a Megatron that's a different mold then there is no way I'm picking up.

no, all me and Optimas Major were talking about was it seemed like several folks in the thread had totally missed that there was a Hasbro Bluestreak at all on deck (and one person even had missed Ironhide).

but there is a lot to keep up with these days

See that thing to the left of the picture? Barely on screen with the little yellow dot surrounded by black?

That's Voyager Megatron, and even as far away as he is, he's still big compared to the Convoy figure.

The picture with BB is to show the intended size, to confirm that it's not going to be an Alt class figure. It will have all their detail, authenticity and complexity, but in a deluxe scale figure. There's no way in hell that things a 1/24th scale figure.

And while he does look great, imo, I'm going to wait for more information, more details, and maybe even a review before I plunk down 50+shipping on it. Though it is more then welcomed to join my Auto-bot ranks.

One body style to late for me. I prefer the older Skyline GTR34 body style.

I wasn't expecting Powerglide to be so OMG HUGE. I will probably be buying one of everything pictured.

PS

Based on the name "Alternity" to me it looks like a way for Takara to bring "Alternators" to Japan.

Perhaps this new line will shut everyone up who claims that the main reason for "end" of the Alt/BT line was licensing fees.

I am pretty sure Takara feels "Convoy" is a line all its own.

It's not another truck, this time it's Convoy as a Nissan GTR sports car.

And of course Takara is milking Convoy. He's the most popular character in the franchise and Takara does its best to put out as many versions of him as possible each year. They've been doing so for ages now.

OK, I have read the News Page, read the FantoFan page, and read this whole thread. Where is this picture of the new Convoy compared to Bumblebee, and which Bumblebee is it? Where do people get 1/32 scale? The News page makes no mention of deluxe size.

Just curious, because Binaltech at Deluxe size is a dream come true for me. I love Binaltech, but damn, they are just too big, and take up too much room on any display.

No just one size .... just from the side by side they went with a more "blocky" look ( trad. robot ) which is making it look bigger next to the movie bee ( more human looking ) .

NOooooooo, NOT ANOTHER PRIME!!! Grrrrr!.

Hmmm what can I re-cast him as?

Also I hope the art on those SW boxes aren't an indicator of the quality of animation we'll be getting from the new Clone Wars series? Ugh!

Ugh I feel the same way about ANOTHER seeker. Getting the same toy 3 times in different colors isn't all that fun to me I'd rather see another mold. I admit the blue looks very nice all the colors looked nice but I can't warrant 100 a pop for repaints its just to steep . Now had it been grimlock like some rumors I heard I would of been ALL over it *sigh*.
Incepticon:
Wasn't there some sort of rumor or hint @ BotCon from Aaron Archer that Hasbro may release MP Thundercracker as part of their Transformers 25th Anniversary figures? That could be worth investigating a bit more if it means a difference of paying $100+ for Takara's version vs. a way more affordable Hasbro version.

Or Grimlock, I think they should do Grimlock instead (or Soundwave.)

i would love a
Masterpiece Ratchet (He was very important in the Marvel comics.) and I love Ratchet more than any other Bot.

Me, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for full 1:24 scale, but I'll buy it even if it's smaller. Scale isn't really realistic anyways: I have MP Prime standing next to my MP seekers even though in reality a semi truck is about 1/3 the length of a F-15.

I'm not going to conjecture on the figure's identity, in either supposed color repaint. I'll find out when it gets here.

Everyone: If you'll notice, in the F2F photos, Onslaught is marked "TRANSFORMERS - USA EDITION" and his placard bears the Hasbro Transformers logo instead of the HENKEI! logo. Some of the others are marked Henkei, but they don't have "finished" paint apps either.

I'm taking this to mean that the chromed up versions of Galvatron and Octane aren't finished enough for display, though the molds themselves are. Like you, I'd be really surprised if Tankor...er...Octane doesn't end up with a chromed tank.

As always, this is a preliminary toy show displaying prototypes, so I wouldn't necessarily take this display as an accurate representation of the final products.

And as for MP-07 Thundercracker? The one on display is obviously a painted prototype, so I wouldn't put much stock in that being the final coloration. It's always possible they're simply copying the Skywarp mold -- all one color with heavy gloss, but in blue plastic instead, but that remains to be seen. In any case, for me it's a definite sale no matter what.
I would, because that's how they did both SS and SW.

Blasphemy!!!

I have been wanting all three G1 seekers from years now and come November, I will finally complete them!
AutobotEngineer:
GTR is awesome, but I don't think I'll import it, even though I'm finally out of school and working. Too much change for too little figure.

Classics look fantastic though...Ironhide is the most exciting figure of the line, I think. GREAT toy, GREAT character and not at all overdone...a triple threat, and a rarity.
