 | | | Tokyo Toy Show: Images of MP-07 Thundercracker, Alternity GT-R Convoy, & Henkei | | Posted on 06-19-2008 at 09:57 AM by Tim Formas | | Fantofan.jp has posted images from the 2008 Tokyo Toy Show, at which several upcoming Transformers items were shown off. The previously reported Nissan GT-R that has been solicited is actually for a new Transformers line from TakaraTomy called Transformers Alternity and the Nissan GT-R will be Convoy (Optimus Prime) and will be available in two colors (Ultimate Metal Silver and Vibrant Red). The first look at MP-07 Thundercracker is shown, as well as images of the upcoming Transformers Henkei (Japanese Classics) figures. The Henkei pictures also show off a prototype of Henkei Ratchet, which appears to be a repaint/remold of the Universe/Henkei Ironhide figure. Pictures can be seen at the FanToFan.jp link above or by clicking on the picture to the left.

Takara will be wanting the red version to depict Convoy, while Nissan has them also do a silver version, their "hero" color for the car. Just like Meister, Tracks and Prowl.

However, when are we getting them? | At Botcon, Sideswipe and Ironhide were on display with info cards stating an October scheduled U.S. release. The other two weren't present.
Abrogate:
The "Alternity" thing looks fairly interesting for a deluxe, but I'm not loving it as a follow-up to BT/Alts. The aesthetic lacks the smoothness and Diaclone-look of the early BT molds (this could change with color, but even then I doubt it), and it instead looks similar to Classics Prowl and Sunstreaker, though much bulkier. It could probably be compared to Universe Swerve as well. With all of that in mind, it could be an interesting addition TO the Classics. But aside from the fact that it preserves the car's interior (something Classics and Movie toys don't do), it just doesnt throw off a BT vibe for me.

And no, if it's not called binaltech, not 1/24 scale, and (probably) not die-cast, it isn't really Binaltech in the sense that collectors know it any more than "Animated" is the same as "Movie" because they're all transforming vehicles. And we ARE getting new Binaltechs; the same molds we got before, and I do believe that they'll be the same size as they used to be unless Tomy has been investing in some shrink ray technology ;P
It's Binaltech's "replacement", and I'm not hugely impressed with the size-reduction-sans-price-reduction, but oh well. I'll keep my preorders for now to see how the final versions look.
Razerwire:
Dear TakaraTOMY and Hasbro,
Please bring back Binaltech and Alternators in full force. This is killing me in both mind and body.
My wallet is yours forever!
Ron
Backscatter:
Shortest list: ALL! I'm so excited!
Laser_Optimus:
Interested in this Alternity thing. Could be interesting... I guess I'll wait until more pics surface.
Interesting to see Henkei Ratchet... guess we're going to have to import him due to that stupid rule Hasbro put out. Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, Silverstreak, Prowl and Ironhide were already confirmed as US releases by Hasbro.
Nutcrusher:
Hold on a minute, everyone. If we look at this picture, it looks like an Alternator sized bot compared to the person in the mirror. The picture with Bumblebee might not mean anything, unless the caption quite literally says that it is to the scale. Blue Meanie:
All over that GTr!!! I hope G1 scale BTish quality sticks around a long, long time.
flux convoy:
Those pictures make me all happy inside.
optimus major:
in the gt-r, i really don't see convoy's head.....to me it looks like RID prowl with primes ears.....it probably just the angle of the shot
grock35:
It looks like i'll be buying more takara tf stuff this summer

Gonna be a very wonderful, and expensive autumn this year!

G1Wheeljack:
Henkei's look nice, but I'm not really digging the chrome on the ones I want, so I'll just go with Hasbro's versions.
optimus major:
and also if you look at the pic where the gt-r is with bumblebee, then compare it to the main gt-r pic....you will notice SIGNIFIGANT differences
i think the gt-r will be alt sized, and the one with bumblebee was just a test figure to practice transformation sceme and automorph (do they have that?)

Prime Evil:
I'm loving the GT-R, will be picking up the silver one.
MP-07 Mine as well, might just finish up the original 3 seekers.
I'll be picking PowerGlide and possibly Silverbolt...possibly.
I'm really interested in the Alternity line. I'm in the minority here, but I prefer the smaller scale.
Come to think of it, if Prime's a GT-R, now I can definitely see megs as and Escalade!!
Beastbot X:
Thundercracker I'm DEFINITELY getting.
Henkei Powerglide and GTR Optimus are "if I have the funds" toys. I want them, but I have priorities to pick up the stateside toys first. (And I'm still getting Universe Powerglide, since he looks so different from Henkei Powerglide anyways.) Quote: |

| I think it's because it's ANOTHER Alt Optimus, essentially. And except for the head, he bears absolutely no resemblance to Optimus. He should've been a new character that hadn't gotten the Alt treatment yet.

Brave Magnus:
Naaaah!!! That Alternity looks too cool, i dont care if its a Convoy, i want it! As for the Henkei line, i said it once and i say it again: I WILL ENDīPOOR THANKS TO THESE TOYS! XD
Runamuck:
FREAKIN awesome. GTR looks goofy with the bulk on the leg, but still badass nonetheless. Maybe Bumblebee? Seeing as how they're comparing GTR to movie Bumblebee in that one pic? Or are they trying to compare the size, rather. Which is interesting because a deluxe size Alternators/Binaltech with that much detail would be badass.
Henkei is full of win. Especially the cars. *swoons*
And I'm loving the color on Thundercracker. Bought!
Cinemastique:
Manoman, I hope that GTR's a 1:24 sized toy. Just all the wishful thinking here ought to tell Takara something. Pro: after market testing the preorders with the 4 BT pseudo-redecos, (Convoy's new in die cast), the next logical step would be to offer a strong character (strong to public, not to us), in a new mold. So it makes sense. Con: At that price? Gotta be smaller. Or plastic, which is preferable to a scale reduction.
I'm not concerned about the characters. If he's in scale, there's always head swapping or modding him out to be whoever.
Rodr-Evil:
Wow, looks very nice!

But I feel the GTR is for the Japanese audience. And as most of us have read time and time again about the Japanese not being into trucks, this is probably the reason for a Convoy as a car.
General Magnus:
Cool. I love the Alt. Hopefully it will be a black repaint in the future.
Itīs an Optimus? Odd choice for an alt mode.
That AT-TE (SW) looks freaking huge,
Scourge_151:
WOW!
Convoy as a GTR is mine as soon as is possible, deluxe-size and fitting in with movie figs is an extremely nice bonus.
I'll take mine in red thankyouverymuch
MetroBoy:
Does the Japaneese Powerglide have any chrome at all?! I may have to get him instead of the US version if he doesn't. That red looks slick!
Ops_was_a_truck:
Holy shit. A new Alternator. I'm all about it.
BigRC83:
I am the only one who cannot steering (sp?) at these pictures?
Fosterlager:
I'm finding it odd that Octane has no chrome. I was looking forward to seeing a chromed up tanker truck.
Banshee:
MP7 is a must for me, as well as the GTR. BLuestreak looks hot in both modes, I'll wait and see how the Hasbro version turns out.
The more I look at Streaker on my desk, and Henkei Streaker in those pics, the more I dislike the chrome. If the air intakes and the gun were painted silver like the rest of the roof part of the air intake, it would be a much nicer toy. Chrome spoiler FTL. Jason Blue Boost:
MP Thundercracker is a must to complete the seekers and the rest of the other MP's I have. The Nissan looks cool probably only get the silver one. The Henkei Sunstreaker and Sideswipe look more G1ish with Sunstreaker's color more true and the chrome add some nice touch. Might have to get these instead of the American ones. Trying to only get Henkei's that are totally different in color.
BigRC83:
The only thing that bugs me about Prowl are the chrome spoilers and if I am not mistaken, are the missiles launchers chrome also?
JOHNDILLINGA:
Henkei Streaker embodies what Classics Sunstreaker should have looked like.
The GTR is deluxe sized, Whch means Im making Jazz outta him for Classics!.
Jedah: Quote:

smkspy:
Very cool...was hoping for MP Grimlock before MP TC, but whatever. I guess my custom MP TC is now just a generic MP seeker.
Deluxe Alernator Convoy is cool. Doesn't mean that its another optimus just that they're using the Convoy family name. Nevertheless will get him.
Its awfully tempting to get the Henkei over the Universe line. Frankly, if Hasbro would put the same effort into Universe that Tomy is putting in Henkei I'd be willing to pay for extra detail at retail.
alien:
yeah~nice and awesome gallery...! (Metroplex...!!!)
BigRC83:
Bluestreak/Silverstreak looks exactly the same as Hasbro's version.

darn shame TC's vertical tails are blue and not black. Not that I expected they would. stupid Takara.

And it seems to be a much glossier black than the Hasbro photos of Silverstreak. I prefer the Henkei.
IACON:
Thundercracker looks great. Can't wait to get it.
The Henkei cars looks interesting. I may not get all of them.

i think the gt-r will be alt sized, and the one with bumblebee was just a test figure to practice transformation sceme and automorph (do they have that?) | Remember: Once upon a time they DID make some smaller Alternator molds for test shots, for a potential smaller line. They didn't go with them, but the possibility is there, as distasteful as it sounds to us BT/Alt enthusiasts. Although they did make a WST-sized Autolooper, so it's not beyond the realm of feasibility that they would release two different sized versions of the mold...time will tell.
Me, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for full 1:24 scale, but I'll buy it even if it's smaller. Scale isn't really realistic anyways: I have MP Prime standing next to my MP seekers even though in reality a semi truck is about 1/3 the length of a F-15.
I'm not going to conjecture on the figure's identity, in either supposed color repaint. I'll find out when it gets here. Quote:

Some of the others are marked Henkei, but they don't have "finished" paint apps either.
I'm taking this to mean that the chromed up versions of Galvatron and Octane aren't finished enough for display, though the molds themselves are. Like you, I'd be really surprised if Tankor...er...Octane doesn't end up with a chromed tank.
As always, this is a preliminary toy show displaying prototypes, so I wouldn't necessarily take this display as an accurate representation of the final products. Quote:
Originally Posted by REDLINE darn shame TC's vertical tails are blue and not black. Not that I expected they would. stupid Takara. | And as for MP-07 Thundercracker? The one on display is obviously a painted prototype, so I wouldn't put much stock in that being the final coloration. It's always possible they're simply copying the Skywarp mold -- all one color with heavy gloss, but in blue plastic instead, but that remains to be seen. In any case, for me it's a definite sale no matter what.
Liege Prime:
It all looks good. Besides Powerglide, I'm sticking with Universe. And, I'm not crazy enough about that seeker mold or completing a seeker set to spend another $100 on TC, but it still looks nice. I already had to go preorder that "Alternity" figure.
DJCHARTERS:
love the new henkei figure, ive already bought sunstreaker and prowl but i think i will be buying the henkei versions anyway they are beautiful.
love that alternity too think ill have to shell out for that
Rijie78:
Yes to MP Thundercracker, even from that photo it looks too good to miss.
Not sure of the GTR; disappointed it's not a Binaltech after all, i'm put off by the fact it's got gimmicks, and it being Convoy seems a bit strange somehow. However, I'm interested by the concept of the line enough to want to see if it's insanely articulated & really well finished, in which case I will be happily won over!
