New Transfomers Alternity Details: Figures to Be 1:32 Scale & Die-Cast

New Transfomers Alternity Details: Figures to Be 1:32 Scale & Die-Cast nissangtr
In pre-orders for the Transformers Alternity Nissan GT-R Convoy figure at Japanese online retailer Bo-Ya, more details are provided regarding the size and composition of the figures in the line. According to the pre-orders:

GT-R transforms to robot. 1:32 scale model of collectible size. Automorph mechanism incorporated for ease of transformation. Heavy appearance making use of die-cast like Binaltech. New series! Red color scheme is for Convoy homage and silver is for the car's signature color.

Therefore, they have confirmed that this line will contain die-cast like their Binaltech line had, but will be in a smaller size at 1:32 scale. The pre-orders continue to confirm that the figure will be available with both Vibrant Red and Ultimate Silver Metal.

This sounds like what I really wanted BT to be. Small, articulated, diecast toys that can mix with nearly every other Transformer line.
Chaos Convoy:
I'm pretty sure MP Prime is around 1/32nd to 1/34th scale, actually. His vehicle mode is way too small compared to Alternators/Binaltech tfs. It's similar in size to (the vehicle mode, mind you) to Movie Prime. Now, his bot mode is almost perfectly to scale with Alts, but that has no bearing on what his actual scale is.

And I'm very sure that Starscream is 1/60th scale.

But yes, most of the Movie toys (the Autobots, mostly. And most of the other automobile/car tfs and Scorponok) were very close to being 1/32nd scale. None of them were dead on, but they were pretty close. But if there's a car-mode TF that's a deluxe, it'll most likely be close to 1/32nd scale. Unless they're G1 cars..which are closer to 1/36th scale, I think

Sort of like Energon following on from Armada, and all their bodies changing in between.

Kinda takes the fun out of it, doesn't it?
They do seem to be addressing the main criticisms of Binaltech: too hard to transform, and too expensive. For every person complaining about automorph, there's someone who's relieved it should mean they're easier to transform and therefore less easy to chip. Personally, I don't mind a complex transform; I don't need them to be G or PG-grade. PG-13 or R is fine, as long as they're not like NC-17.

Please, no. Too cutsey. I'm physically incapable of calling a kick-ass sleek GT-R, with a (hopefully) rockin' bot mode, an "Alty". Presumably Takara will have a prefix code for these figures. I say we just use that. BT wasn't just the fans shortening Binaltech; it was right there on the box.

Just by way of an example; it might be like "AC" and "AD" for "Alternity Cybertron" and "Alternity Destron", giving us AC Convoy, AD Megatron, etc.

You can't draw conclusions about the relative MP Prime and Alt car sizes based on G1 Prime and the G1 cars. Put G1 Sunstreaker and G1 Hound next to G1 Prime and see what you get.

Indeed. Try lining up one of the 1:24 BTA girls with his vehicle mode. Does she look like she has a remote chance of climbing into his cabin? Definitely not 1:24.
LightningZERO:
I will wait for more pictures before I decide to buy or not. The price is kinda too high...
Rijie78:
My 2p is, i'm unsure over this Alternity line, but it is interesting. Starting with Convoy as a.. car is an eyebrow raiser. They're not in scale with previous BTs and they have automorph gimmicks, of which I'm not a fan. But I think the bot mode looks pretty good from that shot of the prototype, and the news they have die-cast parts after all is a plus. The level of articulation & the quality of the finish will be the deciders, hopefully we'll get some info and finished shots before too long.

I wonder when we'll hear what the plans for the line as a whole are, and whether these are in addition to, or replacing Binaltechs. I'm still hoping we get die-cast BT Civic Rumble & GT Mirage somewhere down the line, if nowt else.
IronhideTF:
BBTS has it's date for November 2008.
Pre order for $50 USD.
Peanut04:
I like the size. I've always liked smaller figures, but the price is pretty hard for me to swallow. I hope Hasbro jumps onboard and releases them aswell. If Hasbro makes a plastic version I'll be all over it.
Hollywood Hoist:
I'm liking the idea of this line. Perhaps this will give a chance for some characters that didn't get made in Alts/Binal to get released. Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Brawn, Trailbreaker, Stunticons... etc.

I remember when mp prime came out, before any official or ko trailers, we were all trying to figure out what scale it was in order to find model trailers that would fit. I believe the consensus was around 1/28 scale, not that there's too much ever done that way, but going by comparisons to other models, that was the conclusion.

i remember some people noting as well that he's not even totally in scale with himself ~ like his doors being too small and some such...
MegaHavok:
Just a thought for those complaining about it being convoy. Why not just buy the silver one and call him classics camshaft?

http://www.tfu.info/1985/Autobot/Camshaft/camshaft.htm
Hikuro:
Man oh man, to good to be true. Alot of people where I work re interested in this. not because its transformers, but because a high end nissan vehicle will be a famous transformer.
I'm taking a stab that the interior will mimic the black leather of the gtr....seeing how there are only two interior choices, black or greyish white leather.
But I will pick up both variants.
butz:
Bah. I like that they're a smaller scale, but I hate die-cast figures. If they got released without the die-cast (like what Hasbro did with the Alternators) then I'd be all over these guys. But Hasbro has too much of their own stuff coming out, and there's no way Takara Tomy is going to put out plastic versions of these guys too, so it's pretty much a lost cause.
Oh well; I'd still be more interested in Animated, Universe/Classics, and the movie stuff anyways.
Bumble Prime:
and pre-ordered......... what can i say? convoy does sell
B-Fox:
AWESOME. I finally give a damn about an Alternator/Binaltech. Small is what they should have been to begin with. Alternity sounds so promising now.
jnmx2000:
hmmmmm, I like the larger scale of the BT line, it seems like they made better transformations with the larger scale. I hope these won't be simplified because of the scale. and has it been confirmed yet which robot mode turns into the GTR? the one on display at the show in person, or the one pictured with BB. I personally want the one pictured on display at the show, it's no where near as blocky as the one pictured with BB
plowking:
Bummer bout the size thing....but they cant please everyone can they?...

Congrats for you guys that like him/them
QuinJester:
So many people happy at the smaller scale and angry at die-cast... I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, here.

One of the really neat things about the BTs/Alts were their complexity, and I'll be impressed if that complexity manages to make it to the smaller scale, but I have a feeling they'll end up fairly simplified. Ah well. Hopefully it'll still look pretty.
Shin Densetsu:
It would be neat to see these sold sans diecast in the US as deluxe figures in the Universe/25th Anniversary toyline.

I want to see more jets, even if it is in smaller scale than 1/32.
Infosaur:
Automorph features too? Ugh, this is getting worse and worse.

TFormers has more info about Alternity:

Quote:
We have provided more Transformers Alternity information straight from the TakaraTomy booth at Tokyo Toy Show 2008. Some of the information was revealed earlier but there's more!

TakaraTomy explains Alternity at Tokyo Toy Show 2008:

# Alternity is a different series from Binaltech.

# The size is 1/32 scale so it can easily fit on any desktop. The size is slightly larger than deluxe size figures.

# The pricing scheme was based on today's cost of the various materials used.

# There are two colors of the car because the silver was used to represent a real NISSAN GT-R color that is only available now and the red was chosen specifically because it is a Convoy.

# When transformed, the rear seats becomes the feet, the front seats when folded down becomes part of the armor surrounding the arms and the roof and the front grill have a spring action mechanism. The video demonstrates the spring action mechanism where the front grill is divided into three pieces: right, left and center. The right and left sides encloses the center piece.

# Because the license is heavily under the supervision of NISSAN, we would like sales schedule to start in November but it may be delayed to the end of the year.

# Other Observations: The design of the head is similar to Nike and Fire Convoy.
Laser_Optimus:
The automorph gimmick sounds interesting. I'm definently going to have to get the funds to pick this guy up. Thankfully it looks as though they'll be releasing him at or around Christmas time.
Fit For natalie:
Automorph gimmicks are always fun, when done correctly they look really cool............ unlike Movie Blackout and his slipped gears. GRRR.

Why? So they can sell very small numbers of them? I would think Hasbro would rather sell these through the big retailers to maximize sales (TFs selling = ultimate good for us). I would prefer plastic at this level of complexity and size. Less paint to scrape off.

Agreed. I'll be looking into getting this guy, but I'd love for Hasbro to release this sans the diecast, but if they don't announce anything before this guy comes out I will purchase him.
Backscatter:
I was intrigued, pre-ordered both! Optimus has not been a car since the Gobot days!
Robogeek28:
Preordered, but if it's announced that Hasbro's gonna release them over here I'll be going that route instead.

QFT. 1:28 scale for MP-1,2/20th Prime is the general consensus.

Wow, I leave for a week and this is what happens while I'm gone, I was pretty excited about the "coming soon" image toted along with the upcoming BTs (my prediction was the Civic *sigh*). Oh well. I really like the design of this bot, but I'm torn on the scale. A part of me wants this toy in the BT line, but the other part of me is glad it's not another $55+ I won't be spending out
Greyryder:
I like the scale, It's pretty close to what a lot of deluxe car TFs are. In fact, Concept Camaro Biumblebee/Cliffjumper, and movie Barricade are just about exactly 1/32 scale. (strangely, classic Camaro BB was made to noticeable smaller scale) Not much liking the car they chose, though.
Ravenxl7:
Here's hoping that Hasbro releases this one at some point. They could easily, imo, put it into the Universe line, imo. Maybe even for the 25th Ann. part of the line.

What video is this?
Did they get a copy of it?

I know what you mean. The new BTs made me very happy... but sort of the same way a rehabilitated addict is happy when they fall off the wagon.

They sorta did.

Count me in for Alternity. Die-cast in 1/32 scale worries me a little, but I'm hopeful.
