DISCUSSION: (Jump To This Thread On The Boards)
Storm:
i actually prefer the classics versions, if ramjet had darker arms he would look better.

I'll stick with my classics versions but might get a ramjet as i need one for thrust.
Skywave:
I prefer my Classics for both, don't plan to replace them with any of those. So far only Astrotrain catched my attention, keep trying Takara !
The Asp:
I wonder if bandai will/can take any action due to skyfire?

They can't be pleased by the resemblance to their macross toys.
MasterOfPuppets:
Ramjet looks great. Skyfire is the only one that I 100% prefer the Hasbro version.
Lupis Convoy:
Not striking MY fancy, but hopefully others will like it.
B-Fox:
Changed my mind on Ramjet, since he does infact look more cartoon-accurate with the white arms and black hands and entirely red wings. I rather associate my Ramjet with the guy who headbutted a knight on a horse to the guy who thought he was Starscream and had his bodyparts strewn across the state by Megatron.

As a character, Jetfire is supperior to Skyfire, however.

I'm happy with my Classics JETfire and this SKYfire repaint it just as dull as his animated counterpart.
Lone_Decepticon:
I like em both.
Pravus Prime:
I'm surprised at the "hate", so far though Skyfire is the only Henkei I think I'll get, but I'll admit I like that mold.
giga-galvatron:
Ramjet looks ok... if i find him cheap enough I might cop him but Skyfire is a pass.
razorchrist:
I vastly prefer the Hasbro versions since they're nice combo of old "classic" characters meets new paint schemes & updated designs. These Henkei versions just seem so... plain & watered down by comparison. I dig their version of Megatron better simply since I prefer Megs to be silver/grey/black, and while I don't personally care about it, their version of Astrotrain even made a lot of sense. Beyond that, the rest are incredibly dull.

The only one I'm actually looking forward to is if they repaint Powerglide. I could care less about "realistic" this or that - I just want Powerglide to be maroon colored.
Kaijumaster:
I prefer the USA paint scheme.
alien:
seem like skyfire has no any surprising...

i'm so hopeful they'll do Powerglide "right" ~ i'm really not feeling the colors of the Hasbro version at all, and he's way to similarly hued to Silverbolt (who's perfect)

I hope Takara doesn't do Powerglide too "right"...

I'd hate to seem him in the Kiss Players line.

REDLINE:
soooooo glad they painted both sides of the wings of Ramjet!
kenm2474:
I will pass on both. I have all the Seekers and my Jetfire looks amazing as he is.

Best guess on the visor being red is that it's an homage to the G1 Jetfire (Macross) toy, in the same way that the helmet itself is.

Heh, the paint apps on the jet nose make it look like the plane has nostrils.
Golden Age:
I think Ramjet is the first Henkei TF that doesn't look better than it's classic version.
shroobmaster:
Oh yeah that's so G1 so G1 it looks extremely boring and should rot in toy hell!
Omnibus Prime:
Bah. I preferred the more G1 look of the Botcon seekers, and like the fact that Henkei Starscream and Ramjet have continued that look. Bring on Henkei Skywarp, I say. Finally, a uniform, modern set of all six.
Rodr-Evil:
WOW Henkei repaints looks awesome!!! I'll buy Prime and Meg now, I never liked the Hasbro versions of both.

I don't see how I could care less. Even if it actually was his.

G1 toy reference, which the helmet was supposed to be anyway.

Yes, they do! This "hatred" is so bogus it's not even funny. People would be drooling all over these if it was the other way around. MP Starscream anyone?

I know why! It's cuz some people don't care about quality! Takara consistently releases better looking versions of the same toys, and people can't stand when they bought the shittier version, so they just say the better one sucks.

It's called being lame.

Very rarely G1 colors do not work with some molds. In this case it is Ramjet. Jetfire looks more like it's cartoon counter part and that also does not work. I also do not like the TAKARA version of Astrotrain. But TAKARA Megs is a must have.
lookinglasself:
Ramjet looks better than Skyfire/Jetfire, but I'm not too sure about these two. They don't blow my skirt up like the other Henkei's. I'll have to see more pictures before I decide.

Ain't that the truth. But for those that already have the molds, I can understand why they wouldn't want to upgrade.

What I don't get is people bashing the Henkei line for its chrome usage. The pictures don't do these figures justice, they must be seen in person to be appreciated.

Oh well. As someone who passed on the Classics line, having TakTomy released these figures under the Henkei line is fuckin awesome. Here's to more G1/cartoon accurate paint homages.
Railguard:
Well they look pretty cool, wow Exxon/Mobil made 87,000 dollars in a minute!!!! Anywho, I like them, I just can't afford them right now.

I don't see why people think the takara repaint is more accurate, considering what the toy was based on

The hasbro version has all the paint apps right down to the T imo. The only thing I would have wanted is black missiles for the forearms and all red boosters on the arms

More like the comic was based on the toy, even though the comic was released first.

As others have said, Takara's color schemes are based (more or less) on the animated cartoon models ('Skyfire' in this case), even if the molds themselves aren't so much.

Annnnd, Ramjet is a big wtf. I don't see any chrome-looking pieces and the colors aren't very cartoon accurate. Especially the hands.
The colors and layout are very cartoon accurate.

Well, not the hands....

And not the upper legs either, for that matter.
butz:
Eh, I think Ramjet looks kinda crappy. Maybe it's just the "gotta see them in person aspect", but the layout of his colors just doesn't look right to me.
Skyfire looks neat, but I don't get why they colored over so much of his cockpit; if it's a cartoon accuracy thing or whatever, then maybe it was a detail they should've skipped?
He'd be full of win otherwise.

I wasn't referring to that, for which the hasbro version is a DEAD ringer. I meant to say Henkei Skyfire is more accurate to his G1 animated incarnation than the Hasbro one.

His hands would have to be completely painted to do that, and not only would that look a little weird but I also think that it would cause a lot of chipping issues which I'm sure they are trying to avoid by not doing so.

In order to get his legs to be gray, they would have to be molded in gray plastic (since that's the unpaintable kind of plastic). So all the parts that are tied to the legs (there are quite a few) would have to change as well.

Considering what they had to work with, I think they did an excellent job of making him as cartoon accurate as possible.

Randy
SMOG:
Also, we should remember that as far as Takara is concerned, these aren't really repaints. There's no obligation to impress us with a "new" paint app. Takara is just painting them a bit differently for their market.

Both of these look okay. Cartoon accuracy is nice, but I do find the Hasbro Ramjet is more attractive overall. Like, if I had no idea what Ramjet was supposed to look like, and I was offered the chance of either one, I'd take the Hasbro one in a second.

Jetfire... mixed. There are things I like better on both versions. There is something sort of attractive about the simplicity of all that white on the Takara version, and I'm really impressed with how surprisingly awesome that "smaller" cockpit looks. Neat trick!
