 | | | FansProject Powered Commander To Be Reissued With Chrome | | Posted on 05-11-2009 at 01:57 PM by Shin Densetsu | FansProject will be reissuing their Powered Commander trailer/armor set, compatible with Classics/Henkei Optimus Prime/Convoy figures, for the Japanese market. This time around, it will feature chrome parts, to fit in with the Henkei figure.
Unlike the previous release at TFCON, this will not be limited. It will be available soon.
Thanks to 2005 boards member Red Leader of sponsor Kapow Toys for the heads up.
UPDATE: A comparison photo has been posted to the discussion thread. You can view it by clicking the thumbnail at left. The TFcon exclusive is on the right, on the left is the reissue.

Wow, this is...annoying. Seriously FP? Why do the exclusive in the first place? As one of the people who spent $160 CAN on this, I'm a little peeved. Not hugely peeved, if the toy ends up selling for the same price or higher, I'll be fine, but peeved nonetheless!
I don't know, I'm just going to let it go, the chrome would've ruined it for me anyway.

Uhhhhh....I never wrote that it was in that quote: | erm......what? i think i misunderstood wtf was goin on there, ignore
MegaHavok:
I think you guys are really missing this point of this release. FP went out of their way to release an exclusive version of PC that was color matched to the U.S. release of classics prime. This new release will be color matched to henkei prime that is why it features chrome. If you mix and match and put henkei PC on classics prime it wont look right. That is why Tfcon PC remains an exclusive.
If Fp made the decision to do this I'm sure it is for a good reason. If they needed the additional revenue to fund some of the awesome projects we saw at the con then so be it. I will continue to support this company as I can.

Not only that, but also that these PC armors would be the last of the lot.
A big difference.
Now who can tell if they also said the truth about the Cliffy upgrade kit? Are those molds also dead or will they "resurrect" them again in a few years?

I dont think anyone is pissed about the toy itself(hell as some one who cant afford one right now on Ebay I love this news)
but many people (myself included) were told that Powered Commander would only be at TFcon (it was even brought up in the TFW podcast I believe) so naturally people who got them thinking it was something special are now a little peeved.

But what if they really did dismantle it though, only to put it back together again? That's what I'm getting at as a possible scenario.

What does irk me is how they went along doing it. Good product yes, but also bad decision making and P.R.

its the fact that something that was promised to be an exclusive is now not even if they changed minor colours they went back on their word

Also with regards to the botcon seekers issue that was brought up. To be fair, they were released by 2 seperate companies. TakaraTomy had no obligation to not release the figures. On the other hand, Powered Commander is being released by the same company and while yes, they are making him colour match Henkei Convoy. It still is a Powered Commander and it is a big kick in the crotch. | Don't worry. Given Takara's track record last year they'll be releasing all the Botcon bots with a slightly different deco in six months. That'll drive down the value of the botcon figures to match your extra PC. =D
Motor_Master:
I guess it all depends on whether the molds really are destroyed or not. If FP is planning to ship the chromed version this month, they could have had the toys made before they made the TFCon version. It could be that after being used for 4 production runs, the molds have degraded significantly and have effectively been destroyed.
Fun Pubs has stated that the molds they use for their custom heads/parts are made of lower quality material and degrade much more quickly than Hasbro's molds. This could be the same issue with Fans Project.
As long as they make some changes, be it paint or remolding or both, I have no issue with FP making another release Powered Commander. Then again I didn't flip out or punch holes in the wall when Takara announced the Thundercracker, Skywarp, Dirge, Thrust exclusives either. Quote:

Destroyed means never to be used again, so it was easy to assume that no other CC armors would be coming from them.
The only way I can see a way around it, is if like Automorpher's source stated that both PC armor variations were stated by FP to be intro'ed simultaneously. They probably made both limited batches and later destroyed the mold, all before TF Con. This could go in hand with stating the PC variation as being a Japanese Exclusive.
Again, pure speculation until we get more info from RL tomorrow from his sources.

I guess next time your friend asks you to pick up something, you'll probably remind him of this situation and get money in advance.
I had a similar thing almost happen, a guy promised to buy a shattered glass prime for $120. This was before Botcon, neither of us knew what it would be worth or how popular. I agreed. After Botcon he kept telling me he could get SG prime for $80 or so. I explained to him that if it had been selling for $400, I'd still sell it to him for the $120. Luckily he bought it and a friendship didn't strain over it.

I thought I was going to have something exclusive, a first for my collection. Instead its a test run prototype with cheap materials.
At least I got the TFcon sticker and lies. How's that for value added?

He' comes with TFCon stickers doesn't he? And non-chromed parts? Parts you can't get without Chrome in the "Henkei" version? Also, the packaging may end up being different. Although, I bet the instructions and stuff are all the same.

There seems to be some kind of threshold that needs to be passed with the number of changes to the figure before some people are ok with it.
Perhaps they reacted to all the negativity that came about when it was announced as a TFCon exclusive and feel like they need to correct that even if it creates another problem.
I wonder if this was the intent from all along and the TFCon organizers were aware of it? Quote:

Well, I am now glad that my Canadian cousin wasn't able to find anyone willing to pick me up a set. I was hoping to sell it to pick up some other stuff that I needed, but probably wouldn't have gotten it in hand yet. But outside of my selfishness, this is too bad. As much as I hated missing out on some good exclusives in the past, this is somewhat misleading to the fanbase. It is kind of poor to release something this close to the exclusive version. Although I guess the TFCon is technically a "foreign release".
A made a point a while back on another site that the "TFCon Version" or whatever they put on this one was a little strange, and that it led me to beleive that there would be another release and I was poo-poo'd. Who's laughing now? Actually not me, this is too bad for the fans who like protection of exclusives.

what's next a shattered glass version for my shattered glass, or a clear version? seriously you are effin killing me.
im not purchasing this.

i never picked up the exclusive, and am still not interested in this set...
what i want is FP to make a new prime trailer that'll attach like armor, but look different from magnus...and then i can have a powermaster prime with magnus...

I wonder if this was the intent from all along and the TFCon organizers were aware of it? | honestly a name change and a change in the way the colours are layed out would do it for me. I just want the first PC to still be unique even with a mass production edition
Maybe just slap Production Power Commander on it (since it seems the TFcon PC was the first prototype) and then play with the colours of the panels so that it looks unique

Im not surprised all companies does this, another fine example is ehobby Sunstorm, he was very very expensiv but now he cost cheapest I have seen 39.99 + shipping. most of ous who bought Sunstorm the time in aftermarket he was in the hundreds.

Don't have time to go through 15 pages of posts but I have a question.
Why not rerelease the Ultra Magnus armor? It seems popular if eBay prices are any indication. Seems like there's still demand for it.
Malach Ra:
exclusive means pay a shit load for a toy when it first comes out, then have it reissued with some different paint apps, have it cost a ton less. Its reverse appreciation. nothing is exclusive.
Kupp:
I am not really interested, I have city commander and that is enough for me.
That said, I think that if the chrome version had been the Con Exclusive version and the non-chromed version the general release, almost everyone would be happier.
The superior version would have been the one people paid more money for, and everyone would have the option to get the inferior version.
