 | | | Australian DVD News - Beast Wars and Takara Series Complete DVD Collection Box Art Revealed | | Posted on 05-24-2009 at 01:50 PM by Sol Fury | | Australian DVD Retail Chain EzyDVD has updated their site with box art for the upcoming Australian complete collection DVD box set releases. First up is the Beast Wars Complete Collection, which reuses artwork from the IDW Beast Wars: The Gathering comics. Second is the Japanese "Transformers Takara" Complete Collection set. This set, which covers the three Japan-only series Transformers The Headmaster, Chojin Masterforce and Victory recycles the box art from the previous UK releases of the three series. Last is the 1986 Animated Movie Blu Ray Edition, which uses the classic "Hot Rod holding the Matrix aloft while Unicron lingers menacingly in the atmosphere above" artwork. All three sets are currently up for preorder at EzyDVD, with a tentative release date of June 24th.

Kinda lazy, just recycling existing art or their existing covers.

Would these play on a standard U.S. dvd player? I am interested in a set that includes the headmasters series. From what I understand, I'd have to buy a region free dvd player?

jeff0514:
The link to the Japan G1 set lists region 1, but yet says its for playback on PAL enabled systems. I'm a little confused by that.
BurnZ:
It lists all regions, so it must be region free. Chris McFeely: Quote:

"PAL" and "NTSC" are color-encoding systems - PAL is used in Europe and Australia, while NTSC is used in Japan and America (just for example). They're separate from regions... but then, these SHOULD be Region 4 (Australia), so maybe that part is wrong. Either way, you *will* need a TV that can play a PAL signal, but that's pretty standard.
AE Overlord:
Is there anyone that carries the Japanese G1 episodes in a NTSC format? I'd love to have these but going through the trouble of buying a new player seems to be a little too much for me.
Solrac333:
Meh. Maybe if Beast Wars actually used artwork from the IDW Beast Wars: The Gathering comics, I would actually like it.
TCJJ:
Woohoo! Hopefully these are decently priced, because New Zealand is region 4 as well, which means I can buy these! Awesome! Although Blu-ray... I don't have a Blu-ray player yet.......
ORIO:
Awesome. I really want to own and watch all of those takara episodes.
honcho:
Definitely saving up for that BW set. I have all the episodes, but those extras are well worth it!
Wheeljack_Prime:
Now for a set with BWII and BWN...
Runamuck:
And yet, I'm still waiting for the States to get the Japanese-only stuff.

This may sound like a stupid question but would these play on an XBOX or a 360? Er, U.S. that is.

SydneyY:
I might pick up Japanese series set. Can it be viewed without subtitles?
SydneyY:
^Awesome! I was a bit hesitant to order from ezy anyway, since they once failed to deliver my preordered stuff.
OperaSingerPrime:
Actually I cant believe these are only 20$ or so more than the single sets
Orbital:
oh man, i already own the dvds to beast wars, but my first season disk 4 doesnt work, and im under the impression this box set has some features sooo i might get it Zapp Brannigan:
I wonder if the TFTM Blu-ray transfer will be any different to the Metrodome release...
saberconvoy:
i wonder if the beast wars contain the anime forms of the beast wars like BWII and BW Neo

When you say complete for eg: Beast Wars series, does it cover Beast Machines as well?
2 wishes here:
1) I hoped that BW is a COMPLETE set.
2) They make this generally available & affordable. Gaastra:
i asked about the japan shows on shout factory's site and they said america will never get the japan episodes. They cost to much or something. It's ok for every other part of the world to get them but we can't get these three blasted shows in america!

Those are Don Figueroa (and Guido's, I believe) pin ups of Optimus Primal, Black Arachania and I expect the other side has Megatron. Quote:

Why don't you try asking Madman for help with your non-functioning disc? Quote:

I bought all volumes of G1 except for their Beast Wars & Beast Machines series due to the fact that these are relatively pricey over here.
Now, if only we get BW II & BW Neo as well then the circle will be complete.
Fit For natalie:
Rhino's Beast Wars DVDs are worse than Madman anyway, both in video quality (PAL being clearer than NTSC) and features (hey, commentary tracks).

I don't understand "cost too much". How would they cost anymore than a regular DVD set?

How would they cost anymore than a regular DVD set? | Something about the additional cost of clearing the rights to the original language, if I recall the discussion correctly. The thing is, see, STRICTLY speaking, Hasbro just has the StarTV dubbed versions of the shows, which were legally acquired by Sunbow at some point, and are now back in Hasbro's hands along with all the other TV shows formerly owned by Loonland. When Metrodome released the DVDs, they actually had to go and separately acquire the Japanese version to work with.
