 | | | | | | | Transformers Wonderfest 2010 Display Images - Japanese Animated Packaging | | Posted on 02-07-2010 at 03:49 AM by Sol Fury | 2005 Boards member Masabon, and Japanese toy blog Danny Choo have posted some images from Winter Wonder Festival 2010. With many thanks to 2005 Boards member Masabon, we have many images of the Transformers display including the big models of Animated and Movie Optimus Prime waiting to greet guests and of course the toy display. Takara Tomy's Transformers Animated line is out in full force, and thanks to these images we have our first look at the packaging for the various different toys. Deluxe class toys come packaged on handsome cards, with red backgrounds for Autobots and purple backgrounds for Decepticons. The backer depicts a faceoff between Optimus Prime and Megatron. Voyagers come in similarly color coded window boxes, while the VS sets come in an open window box to show off both toys in robot mode with their heads turned toward each other.
Check out our mirror of the images by clicking the title of this story. Do you prefer the US packaging or the Japanese packaging? Sound off with what you think on our 2005 boards by clicking the discuss button. Update:
Masabon has provided us with an image and some more information on the Legends class Generation 1 redeco of Revenge of the Fallen Devastator. This small version of Devastator will come as a set not as individual carded releases like the movie colors release. Additionally with the new color scheme, two of the members have got new names! Hightower is now renamed to Hook, while Rampage is renamed to Bonecrusher, to match up with their Generation 1 ancestors. Overload though is still Overload, as he has no predecessor...

holy shiiit. I may need to get a deluxe or two just to keep in package. Sooo awesome!!!!
NothingHead:
I don't like it. Sepultron:
Nice. Very nice actually. Much better than the US packaging IMO.
RedAlert Rescue:
Very like Beast Wars Returns boxes.
thenatureboywoo:
That looks like voyager prime with the jet pack.

RE: The packaging, I'll preface this by saying that I really liked animated's packaging, it fit the tone of the show perfectly and was very attractive with some nice art, but damn that is some sexy stuff from Takara.
The toys look much better now, I'm tempted to pick up a shineimus prime myself, maybe at AA...

Why is Japan so awesome?
EDIT: You can see a BB VS Soundwave(?) pack under the two-pack of prime and Megs.
sanchomaul:
I hate tfa but that prime has to be mine! So glad I waited to buy that mold.
Chris McFeely:
EEeeeeeeeehhhh. Really not digging how it's dismissed the geometric, primary-colors whimsy that *defines* Animated in favour of something movie-lite.

The shinyness is ok, but I'll stick with my current ones.
Bumblethumper:
The Hasbro versions were more true to the spirit of the show.
But damn, TakTom really sexed it up. I'm just gonna hafta try really hard to convince myself I don't need these.
Waverider:
I like the Takara packaging better than Hasbro one. I might pick up a few to keep displayed MISB. Robotkingdom has them up for pre-order cheaper than the other online retailers.
MACRAPTRON:
See how it goes, a year ago everybody hated the chrome on henkei, now everybody is in love with the shiny and glossy paint Tomy gave to Animated. Go figure.
Hated the package and the shiny paint, the US releases are much better. And I feel sorry for the japanese (myself included) for giving up on the iconic 'Convoy' name. OPUTEIMASU PURAIMU sounds horrible.

OPUTEIMASU PURAIMU sounds horrible. | Well I thik they needed to change something with convoys name to help the story. Since Optimus holds "prime" as his rank and there are other "Primes" they would have to at least called him optimus convoy

Transfan2:
From the image, Prime/Bumblebee/Megatron (one in 2-pack) look pretty nice and Deluxe & VS Packages look cool as well, will be interesting to see how the Voyagers (and perhaps eventually Leaders) box look as well in future.

Autobot Burnout:
Wow.
That kind of packaging looks awesome. But awesome packaging and shiny metalic paint jobs aren't going to make me pay rediculous shipping prices for toys I already own.
SmokescreenGT:
Cool packaging. I'm really liking the paint jobs on these figures. Can't wait to see more.
Optimus747:
I'll have to keep an eye out for these when I'm in Japan next month...just in time for these to get released! tarZen:
That Prime looks amazing.

Eric:
Damn, it's gonna be hard resisting the temptation to buy these. I made myself a promise to buy every Animated mold (and their repaints and remolds) from the U.S. releases. Now I might have to break that promise...
Feralstorm:
My impression of pretty much everything about Takara-Tomy's approach to TF:A can be summed up as "Stuff that looks nice, but doesn't really work in context.", from the metallic paint jobs (that don't improve on the figures in any other apparent way, I might add) to the packaging which can pretty much be mistaken for any other Transformers line packaging (unlike the Hasbro TF:A stuff). To it's credit, it does have:
* primarily red color scheme
* 'awesome' streaky background
* standard "Transformers" typeface
* 'awesome' heavily-photoshopped photo of Optimus and Megatron toys facing off front and center.
I'd like to see more drawn art on the package myself. I barely care about packaging, so it all makes no real difference to me. I'm just hoping for some TF:A Japanese success which might allow for some toys/things there that didn't show here (not expecting new molds, but repaints, remolds, or PVCs of human cast would make me a happy camper.)

It's somewhere in the neighborhood of $40... maybe a few dollars more right now.
EDIT: Yep. 3,780.00 JPY = 42.2961 USD
RedAlert Rescue:
3,780.00 JPY = 27.0470 GBP
3,780.00 JPY = 45.2653 CAD
3,780.00 JPY = 31.0362 EUR
3,780.00 JPY = 60.1366 SGD
No way you'd actually be able to get that for 27.00 GBP mind.

Changing the name will confuse the kids in Japan.

It looks nice, but it lacks the character of Hasbro's Animated packaging.
And yes, I too hope it does well, so we can maybe see a few additional repaints. Just as long as it's not another Black Prime/Starscream/Rodimus. God I'm getting sick of those.
LightningZERO:
The packaging is badass!

TakaraTomy has missed a huge portion of the "feel" of this toyline. I mean, Hasbro developed a plastic mixing technique specifically to give the toys the matte look of cel animation. Now they're all shinified.
I kinda feel bad for Eric Siebenaler.
MMarker:
I just noticed, Cliffjumper isn't shiny.
Maybe they are keeping Activators the same?

From here on out, it's Optimus Prime in Japan, like it or hate it.
This was in an interview with the toy designers, as it'll be a point between generations as parents say, "when I was a kid, Optimus Prime was known as Convoy." among other things. What effect this will have on existing lines that already use Convoy, such as Alternity, is unknown, but TT has specifically, publicly stated that from here on out, Convoy is no longer in use, it's Optimus Prime.
I'm still waiting to see pics of Leader Earth mode Megatron. That's the only one I could possibly be tempted to buy.
Sso02V:
If Cliffjumper isn't all blinged out, that's even better, since I was gonna get him to fill the void left by substandard shipping.

I kinda feel bad for Eric Siebenaler. | You never know if they will change the color in their new home-brew transformation sequence clip.
Masabon:
I participated in Wonder Festival. A package of ANIMATED (JAPAN ver.) was exhibited. It is packed with a robot form. I see a manual and a character card.I contribute a photograph of ANIMATED this time.
I participated through the night. I am sleepy,,,,,zzzzz

cool packing its an odd mix of movie and classic packing but I'm not sure if it fits the style. still its not bad looking

Thank you for the pics. Takara TFA looks great. I'm in torn between getting Starscream as a songle or in the two pack since I do not have him yet. Quote:

i like that the whole thing is basically metallic.
and i really like the two different kinds of packaging, i missed that. sure, the movie toys had a decepticon symbol on one, and an autobot symbol on the other. but these are totally different colors even! i like that. i missed that from g1 *though cybertron did that too*
also, Prowl, is it just me, or is there actually, THREE of those things in there? two in the package and one in his leg?
but these are really high nice packages. i am impressed. some how i think if hasbro had used this level of packaging, the toy line would of sold better. because the animated toy packaging DID look very kiddish. making the toy line look more kiddish then it really was.
but this just makes the toys look, well, epic.
btw, starscreams wings/nose cone is a different color then the rest of his body, or is that just me?
i am considering getting all the two packs now, i really liked that from beast wars 2 and neo.
ps. Please no Arcee VS Blackarchnia two pack. i imagine they will sell out pretty fast if they did. | | Tools and Information | | | | | | | Transformers Wonderfest 2010 Display Images - Japanese Animated Packaging - Transformers News.
