Has anyone asked seller for larger pics?

I've asked the seller if they could get some more pictures of it up there (specificaly the sides of the box), so they might put some bigger pictures up too. I honesty don't see why people are getting so upity about the amount of space in the box. We went threw this with Classics Optimus Prime (seems to be something Prime deals with). He compacts down when he transforms into alt-mode. Personally, the only thing I don't like is the angle they put him in. It would have looked better, imo, if he was positioned like Bulkhead is in his packaging. It would probably also make him look at least a little bit bigger in the packaging.

people griping about big boxes or small toys! are fighting a losing battle, hasbro want the toys to look impressive on the shelves.....to 8 year olds, thats what its all about.
joopsta:
I really like the box. It's not too big IMO. I especially like the box art. I'll be getting 2 or 3 of these definitly.

This box doesn't make the toy look impressive at all, thats the gripe. Sure its a minuscule detail, but anyone who took one class of high school art can tell you that it would make the little block of a truck mode look more flattering to show it at a dynamic or at least more visible angle (like classics prime) and in a box that is scaled a little more "snugly."

Kids might be drawn to the big box but I'm sure they are going to be just as weirded out to see that the toy isn't that big. No one's complaining about the figure, its just that its presented a little wierd- especially for a company that can do so much better.

I mean, forget the box size, that top-down view is just weird

fair points. ultimately hasbro has designed a one size fits all (!) box that will allow the largest alt mode to fit in, probabaly starscream. BUT.... its about looking impressive on the shelf and i'll agree that the toy itself doesnt look any better in a large roomy box but the average unsophisticated buyer: mum/mom and an 7 year old looking for tf generally just isnt going to mind all that space in the box. In fact the mum might even like the big box guessing her kid might play with the box even more than the toy itself!! lets just say that when the hasbro design team put voyager OP in the test box they didnt look and think 'oh dear the box looks too big thats an issue' they thought 'the box looks too big but thats not a problem' and hence here it is!!
Silent_Magnus:
The fact that it's Optimus might have some say in it's consumer attractibility factor.

I'm betting a lot of it is due to Lugnutz. He looks like he's going to have more bulk to him in vehicle mode than Starscream does.

Too true. Any Transformer product having the name Optimus (Or Bumblebee, for that matter) is going to attract consumers...

yes, luggy could well have a lot of length!
Shin Densetsu:
Ya know, I'm beginning to think he was initially supposed to be packed sideways, but he ended up being too wide to be packed that way(his side would be poking out of the acetate). Just a hunch on my part.

Actually, now that I think about it, that's probably why he's packaged the way he is. We won't really know till someone get's their hands on him in-package. In the end, I'll be getting him. He looks to be a cool figure.
Crimson87:
Thats an awefully big voyager package for a deluxe sized toy. What a waist of money and the enviornment. Next thing hasbro will do is say that they shrank the size of their voyager class boxes down to deluxes and still make a us pay a voyager size price.... and they'll say they did it for the enviornment.

When the scheme happens, (which it may have started) I ain't buyin into it. GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH!

Umm...this Optimus Prime is a Voyager sized figure, not a Deluxe. You're probably thinking of the 2-pack Optimus Prime, which is a completely different mold (though it has some design similarities to the Cybertronian Optimus Prime toy, which is also a Deluxe). Realistically, the only reason this Prime looks small in this box, is because of the odd angle, and because he compacts down when he transforms into alt-mode. The same thing happened with Classics Optimus Prime.

I don't think this could pass as a deluxe at all.
And it'd probably be more waist full to have multiple box-types just because of different shaped alt modes.

you are talking nonsense. i 'd be suprised if this toy isnt as massive (ie contains as much plastic) as a typical $20 TF from the last 10 years, there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest this toy is the size of a typical $10 toy. im not sure hasbro has ever made any suggestion that they did anything for the environment, we as toy buyers are the ones who buy ultimately useless items, its supply and demand.

a good point, its quite possible that having 'designed to fit' boxes could overall be more energy inefficient than making them of 1 or 2 standard sizes, more machinery more running time.

not bad, I wish they'd hit the stores alreday

For me initially a sceptic of the new animated line but now slowly accepting it. definitely worth getting & hope it comes out soon. (so dat we don't have to bid for it online)
Ravenxl7:
Just got a reply from the seller, and they'll be adding some more pictures to the auction. I also sent another message asking if they could either put some bigger pictures up, or simply type out what's on the back of the box.
SilverDragon:
Are we any closer to finding out what 'gravity-spin conversion' is?

I'm thinking it's supposed to emulate the tornado-transformations in the cartoon.

I think it has something to do with a specific step in his transformation. About the only thing I can think of is his wais spinning. It could also be the name for a feature similar to that of the movie lines Automorph feature.
shibamura_prime:
He seems pretty lonely in that box. He needs a house cat or a potted plant to keep him company in there.
lookinglasself:
I may have to get this. Prime is one of the few figures from Animated I want to pick up. The others are Starscream, Megs (both versions, MAYBE), Bumblebee, and Lockdown.
OptimusPrimeFour:
hey where the hell is his trailer??? i thought voyager class was gonna have one?

He has part of the trailer, not the full trailer. It's the part that turns into his gun and axe. He was never going to come with his full trailer, as Hasbro doesn't plan on making any more trailers (as they're too expensive to produce).

Guys think movie Starscream:

In alt mode, he looked small in the box. When you transform him into robot mode, the sumbitch is $%5678'n HUGE!

The decision to place certain figures in certain size classes may possibly be dependent on weight, not so much size. Bulkhead is significantly shorter than Lockdown, but may weight substantially more. Lockdown is quite possibly the tallest deluxe Decepticon in the last year. Yet he may not weigh as much as Bumblebee. Cybertron Megatron in voyager packaging has big parts, but although bigger, he may actually weigh close to Bulkhead's weight in package. Just something I've been thinking about recently.
SPLIT LIP:
He looks awesome. And yes, compared to the vehicle parts in robot mode, this guy fills the Voyager size class very well.

I'm surprised people still base there opinions on one mode of a TF. There's usually two, sometimes three modes, all of which different sizes and shapes. (<Blatant sarcasm/obviousness)

QFT. It's not just about height. It's about the cost of the figure to produce, as well as how much material goes into the making of the figure. BULKhead didn't get his name for nothing.

Packaging is funny, sometimes just wastefull, look at how cd's were first marketed, they had long carbaoard boxes. Then came along those long white long plastic holders they had, all those were used for was security.
Silent_Magnus:
Again we find Hasbro using the word "Grapnel".
I wonder if the toy actually has one?
Peaugh:
Actually, looking now at how he's packaged. He definitely seems taller than he is wide, so I think that's out for packaging reasons. However, look at how the twist ties hold him into the plastic tray. The only points where the twist tie would be putting pressure on the toy to hold it in place are over solid colored plastic. Maybe they did it this way to keep the twist tie from damaging paint apps during shipment?

more like "Because hasbro is too cheap/lazy to produce them". they have no problem wasting money on crappy electronics and the batteries to power them, but trailers, even if they're basically hollow boxes like the GEEWUN optimus' trailer, are sooooo much more expensive? sorry, I don't buy that. and on top of that, in this prime's case, it's not so much a trailer(which, for a semi, is indeed an optional part), but rather half his altmode.

it's fine to skip out on trailers for semis. but... if you're gonna make a firetruck, don't cut it in half and call it a day. they could have made the part beyond the axe assembly just split open and have a "watercannon" on a stand as a vague nod to good ol' GEEWUN, and it probably wouldn't have made much difference.
Fort Max:
Interesting that it says "supplementary battle armour" in the powers etc section. I hope that means actual physical upgrade and isn't just referencing his facemask.

I mean Bumblebee and Prowl have those too and they don't get special mentions.

No, sorry, there's no room for any kind of gimmick in the forearms as the hands swing into those spaces. Beisdes, he already has a huge axe, a gun and a faceplate gimmick. Not bad for $20.

Either way, I personally don't care that he doesn't come with his trailer. Especially since he doesn't use it in the show. That and I'm not a big fan of trailers. Unless the figure is displayed in alt-mode, or the trailer does something cool other than turning into a "base" (like armor for the figure, or even another TF altogether), I find them useless. I personally think we're lucky enough to be getting this much of a trailer for him, and that it makes for a really cool axe.

Edit: Hopefully they put up the pictures before the auction ends. I'm realy curious as to who is in the "Also Available" section of the box.
Fort Max:
Just think of it as a rapid response firetruck, a sportier model for sprinting through traffic.
Shin Densetsu:
OoOooOOooO I hope this supplemental armor is awesome.
microclone:
wow, to press that toys at about $225, amazing how a soon to be released $20 toy wil fetch as much as a nice boxed vintage piece.
Yobuster:
It just cannot come out soon enough. Those movie repaints are not even hitting Canada yet, there is a complete TF drought going on over here.
Liege Prime:
He looks great. As far as the size goes, most cab only Primes compact extremely well- even look at MP Prime! So yeah, no surprise his alt mode is small, but he is still placed in there awkwardly haveing the top facing out.
joopsta:
$255 was the final bid, damn! I remember someone mailed the seller for some additional pics. Has he gotten them? I'm really eager to see the other bots on the box. I'll send the buyer an email as well, if he would like to send me some pics when he has received the item.

I did get a message back from the seller. They said that they were going to add the pictures to the auction, which they never did. I might message them back to see if they could just email them to me or something (I'll also ask if it's ok if I post them here). Hopefully the person who one was someone here, as it would be awesome to get a review, with plenty of pictures, of this guy.

Cool. Hopefully they take some in-package shots before opening it, or at least some pictures of the packaging before they discard it (though they might be someone who keeps the boxes). I've said it before, but, I'm really curious as to who is in the Also Available portion of the box. I'm thinking it might be Grimlock and Lugnut.

Edit: Just remembered that the Voyager boxes also have a section for Deluxes that are also available (it's on the bottom of the packaging). It would be cool to see who's in that list too (Blackarachnia is for certain, imo).

i wish that guy guy won the bid post avideo on youtube
