Transformers Animated Japanese Cast and Theme Song News

Some interesting news has surfaced for the Japanese dub of Transformers Animated, courtesy of Livejournal user toriaki. First of all, we have news on the Japanese dub's theme song, which will be sung by the one and only JAM Project! JAM Project is made up of several well-known vocalists including Masaaki Endoh and Hironobu Kageyama, the latter of whom has previously provided the opening, ending and insert songs to Japanese Transformers series The Headmasters and Beast Wars Metals.

On the side of voice actors, toriaki's post also confirms who will be voicing Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sari and Megatron in the Japanese dub of Transformers Animated. Optimus Prime will be voiced by Hiroki Takahashi, whose previous Transformers voice credits include Hellscream and Mantis in Beast Wars Second, plus Gildo and Build Hurricane in Car Robots (Japanese Robots in Disguise). Mr Takahashi is also known for providing the Japanese voice of Street Fighter's Ryu in Street Fighter IV and Tatsunako VS Capcom. Bumblebee meanwhile will be voiced by Daisuke Kishio, who previously voiced Kicker in Transformers Super Link (Japanese Transformers Energon), while Sari will be voiced by Satomi Akesaka. Saving the best for last, we have the legendary Norio Wakamoto playing Megatron. Mr Wakamoto has previously provided the voice of Flame Convoy in Transformers Galaxy Force (Japanese Transformers Cybertron) and is recognizable as the voice of anime villains everywhere. His most notable credits include Cell in the Japanese dub of Dragonball Z, and providing the Japanese voice of Vega (M Bison) in many of Capcom's Street Fighter titles.

Also mentioned in the livejournal posting is that the DVD / Blu Ray of Transformers Animated will be released in Japan starting in Fall 2010.

Norio Wakamoto and JAM Project.

I submit that this is massively awesome.
Veloxiraptor:
Wakamoto as Megatron? I don't think a better choice exists.
Bgrngod:
I have no idea what is going on here. Norio who and JAM what?

My first thought every time I hear/see TFA Japan news is simply "Where the hell is a Season 3 DVD?!?"

I bet Japan gets it on DVD eventually, and those of us here in the rest of the world will have to buy it and hope the English version is on it.
Valkysas:
JAM Project is always good.

Norio Wakamoto is a long-standing Japanese voice actor, known for playing deep, boisterous, and generally malicious characters. He'd be best known in North America as the voice of Street Fighter's M. Bison (or Vega, if you prefer).

JAM Project is a band/recording group consisting of pretty much all the hot-blooded singers you'll ever need. They're the go-to guys when it comes to cheesy hard-rock super robot riffs.

That's right.
DONGS:
Wakamoto is Megs AND he's singing the OP alongside JAM Project?! VERY YES.
Cyber-Kun:
I know sometimes they make a new opening animation for an imported series, I wonder if it will be the case for Animated? Would be cool to see an intro in high quality japanese animation for kicks.
RabidYak:
Norio Wakamoto = Oskar von Reuenthal = Instant Win.
Fort Max:
Impressive, I guess this isn't going to be a quick and dirty dub it and shove it on the air job then. They're putting some real effort in to make it a success.

Let's hope it works.
j3:
Norio Wakamoto is still hands down one of my favorite voice actors evah, and has even done Transformers before, Flame Convoy!

If the blu-ray has the English dub too, I may just have to import them this fall. It's a shame we can't get the show in widescreen and in HD here.
Sol Fury:
Awesome news. Norio Wakamoto is an excellent voice actor, I've heard him in other roles and there really is not anyone better suited to play the cold and calculating Animated Megatron than him. Especially if he can bring some of the menacing qualities from his role as the Emperor of Brittainia in Code Geass to bear.

Plus the battles between Animated Optimus and Megatron will take on a new dimension when you know it's also replaying Ryu VS M Bison. I wonder if they'll have some fun with that one? I could definitely see some kind of Dragon punch joke in the scene where Optimus uses the Allspark key to take down Megatron in Megatron Rising Part 2.
Backscatter:
Isn't it funny how the Japenese always take Transformers seriously? I've always wished our Transformers series had unigue music for each series, instead of the basic "The Autobots destroy the evil etc. etc."

SearchmanDS:
Megatron voiced by Norio Wakamoto? Holy crap perfect choice. Can we expects some "ALL HAIL MEGATRON!"s from Lugnut? Also, JAM Project for the opening is awesome.
Star Sabre James:
I'm sure not a fan of Animated, but I'd really like to see the theme that JAM project does.

Same here. We haven't heard anything from Hasbro nor Cartoon Network regarding the Season 3 DVD.
BaltMatrix:
JAM Project for the OP?

Sweet.
Primus00:
Norio Wakamoto chosen as the next Megatron/Destron Hakai Taitei (Emperor of Destruction). I can't explain this. I'm surprised yet, I'm not. Wakamoto-san did have that awesome villain voice. Along w/ Flame Convoy and Cell, his other bad guy roles include Tekkaman Omega-Tekkaman Blade, Sharpiro Keats-Dancouga, Moon Will-Dancouga Nova, Xemnas- Kingdom Hearts 2, Chaos-Final Fantasy Dissidia, and Charles zi Britannia-Code Geass.

And JAM Project for the OP and ED themes, I couldn't think of anyone more appropriate.

Hoping for Kenta Miyake for Ragnights and Akeno Watanabe for Black Arachnia.
Backpack:
Blu Ray will be mine, no matter the cost.

Don't need no stick'n DVD when the Japanese are putting it on BluRay! Come to think of it TFW2005 never got their questions answered from the "Hasbro December 2009 Q & A", I know that was one of the questions.

I <3 me some JamPROJECT!

Thanks. Feel free to voice your opinions on which seiyuu should be used.
Rider Strike:
Damn, JAM Project + Animated = A Recipe for Win

Oh, Tomokazu Seki for Sentinal
grimlockams prime:
Norio Wakamoto as Megatron... If I was filled wit any more joy I wold explode!
Feralstorm:
Come back to me when it's "JaAM! Project", amirite?

... right?

where ya going?
LightningZERO:
Norio Wakamoto is awesome!!!!
Waverider:
I only hope that this will lead Animated to other spin off series like they did to Beast Wars.

That means new toys.
Ricochet:

Epic.
Zipdisk:
Good news! I cannot wait to hear the theme at least.

One small nitpick, it's not really a Japanese dub of Dragonball Z when the Japanese version is the original. Dubbing usually implies that you are taking it from one language and altering the original voicework to change it to another. He was the voice of the original Cell in Dragonball Z.

Ok, nitpicky anime fan mini-rant over.
Lord Of Tetris:
Well, to be honest, I don't plan to watch the Japanese dub. Animated is one of my favorite series, and I think the English acting is top-notch. I'm not even jealous of some famous people making the Japanese theme music, because I enjoy variations of the classic 80s Transformer theme.

It would be interesting to see an episode here and there, just to hear Megatron. If you think about it, Corey Burton's Megatron voice even sounds a lot like Norio Wakamoto's voice. Add the voice processing, and Megatron's Japanese dub should sound exactly like Corey Burton suddenly learned Japanese.

And I'm surprised it's been 2 pages and nobody's mentioned that Norio Wakamoto is the voice of Vicious from Cowboy Bebop. Humorously, he's also the voice of one of the White Base operators in Mobile Suit Gundam. His character had at least 1 scene very episode, but this might have been his most non-evil role ever. He had lines like, "Zeon mobile suits attacking us, Bright!" and "Yes sir!"

My thoughts exactly! The longer the delay the more I keep thinking they're actually making bonus episodes for the home release! Which I wouldn't mind, mind you
Maniaxe:
Ah Jam Project, one of the reasons Super Robot Wars is so good.

I for one especially love this song.

But would be refer to each human he meets as a zasshu?

Oh, and the handy thing about Wakamoto-san being on the team - if needs be, he makes for a fine narrator!
Zipdisk:
Norio Wakamoto, the Japanese VA for Animated Megatron also does the dubbed voice for Vince McMahon in the Japanese WWE presentations...

I wonder if he'll hit Optimus with a folding chair sometime?
Caterwaul:
Norio Wakamoto is gonna be Megatron? Awesome! I'm gonna have to listen to a few Japanese dubbed versions of this, just to see how he sounds in the role.
matsuri:
Jam Project! AWESOME!!
Ace Convoy:
I want that New theme song on my Blackberry like yesterday!!!!
DrillBIT:
I don't want to start a new thread on this.
Lantis website news on TFAJ songs info (song titles are not available yet)
Opening theme by JAM Project (CD available on 4/21)
Ending theme by Rey (CD available on 5/12)

Primus00:
So far, what I'm seeing is that the fact that the current chosen seiyuu (Japanese voices) had something to do w/ Transformers in the past. ex: Norio Wakamoto-Flame Convoy I'm hoping "new" seiyuu will follow.
Spiderus Prime:
I hope that the Japaness voice actor of Spongebob can play as Starscream.
ILoveDinobot:
Awesome!! I like Jamproject, they do one of the songs I have on my iPod for my favorite anime.
