Now it's everyones favorite Animated Dinobot Commander who has fallen on Genzhao's hands. TakaraTomy's Grimlock rejects the Animated figures color scheme and instead goes for a more Generation 1 inspired hues. The tones are noticeably brighter, especially when placed next to the original Hasbro release.

Takara seem quite happy to reject cartoon-accuracy for G1-inspired accuracy, it's a shame they still can't move on from there. I'm getting really tired of everything being G1 coloured.

its the mustard yellow that makes me ew

That thing is just plain nasty. Takara continues to show their complete inability to handle this line.

Also, why does he look so much bigger than the US voyager in some of those shots?

that's not the US version, its the Chinese version, a downsized to deluxe class KO, pretty wicked ass little guy
catz
Ghengzao, will your grimlock cost the same as everything else here?
Animated - ZNonko at KOTOYS.COM (30 usd)?

my Hasbro grimlock have two left leg/arm @_@
Feralstorm
Maybe it's just the photo, but it looks almost too bright and colorful

(and for a toy of a cartoon, that's saying something. )

P.S. Looking at it again, it's pretty obvious the yellow is what's throwing me off, compared to the nice rich coppery gold of the Hasbro toy.
microclone
heck, i found the orange tail/claws of the original rather distracting, seemed they should have been painted with the gold metallic paint but the extra colours on the takara version look really bad together. Sometimes i just wonder who gives the final thumbs up to these products? the hasbro version looks way better than the takara one, a big let down.
Trailbreaker77
These pictures are so confusing and misleading, first I thought he was to big then I saw the classics grimlock, now he is to small.
ORIO
I like it. The red pops nicely. Will look good on the Grimlock shelf.
Deceptigtar
hasbro wins this one.
chrisr291
I kinda like this Grimlock. I don't like him enough to import him for 40 bucks after shipping but it is nice.

Well, shut me up.

The takara repaints are hit and miss. Starscream was terrible, but I really like this Grimlock a lot. The colors really pop.
shibamura_prime
I'm digging the contrasts on the Grimlock. Depending on import prices when he gets released, I might pick him up.
enkidoamark
Not terribly impressed. I like a lot of the other autobots though, even if they aren't very show accurate.
LightningZERO
I guess they are trying to give collectors a reason to buy these Animated figures again by making them different
HighCaptSpock
This is the one I was looking forward to most, and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. I was thinking this figure would have looked fantastic in a full, metallic paint job. I do have to agree, though, that the colors are fairly striking. Like most figures, he'll probably look better in person, and I'll probably end up getting him just because he's Grimlock.
Golden Age
I was hoping for a metallic paint job on this one.
Smokescreen
I'm liking this Grimlock, but not quite as much as the Hasbro one I currently have. I'll still get him just so I can include him in my Grimmy display.

Yeah I thought these were all gonna have a metallic paint to them. This figure sucks but it may have looked cool in a metallic silver. Maybe they will repaint it for an exclusive. So glad these don't interset me, it feels good to save $$
Brave Magnus
Is it really that bad? I like the g1-ish color scheme. I am not saying i prefer this one or the Hasbro version. Just that both colors suit the mold.
Sye909
Haha guys. You *DO* remember that the original North American Grimlock had a metallic paint-job to begin with, right xD?!
chugway
i think his colours are going to look nicer in-hand, the top two photos have a funny hue to them, and hasbro grimlock was a bit dull and grey.

then again, i don't think this is one of the better repaints by a long shot. cliffjumper and arcee are the only ones i can see myself picking up at this rate, even goldbug/bumblebee has the same two-tone fail as starscream.
Digilaut
If they'd bothered to make the dark red plastic of his body the same tint as the red paint, and the arms and claws the same yellow, he would look decent. Now it's just a mismatch of colors.
Ra88
What the hell? Why didn't they change the faux-gold claws and tail? Why didn't they change the waist to the same red as with the rest of the new paint? I'm really starting to think that Takara wanted to do full repaints on all figures, then ran halfway out of budget and decided to use the 'normal' mold colors...

I really have to wonder why Takara wentt his way as well. Why not go for showaccurate repaints, what they've always done? Why go for halfassed metallic repaints?
Pasaway
I will probably pick him up to add to the collection eventually, but this thread got me more interested in that Chinese KO then the Takara one. I'll be trying to add both to my Grimlock Collection.

because the hasbro ones are show accurate?
RedAlert Rescue
ZenZhau always bends my brain with the strange KO they have. and the contrast with the production toys.

I wonder what that Giant Scale Animated Grimmy is like in scale compared to MP Grimlock ?

Some, but they could still be better, even if it is only with minor paintapp details.
Tillallareone
G1 rocks!
Starwave
So far Prime and Megs are the top contenders right now. This one looks fine, infact I like it, but all the other ones excluding Shockwave are shit.
miscreant
Congrats on another half-a%%ed G1 inspired repaint Takara.
SilverDragon
I initially liked the yellow on the body, but now I dislike it. I'm sticking with my Hasbro Grimlock.

Although I am interested to see what Snarl and Swoop look like.

Whoa, really? That's an interesting little bit of trivia.
