Board member GenZhao returns with a full image gallery for the upcoming Japanese Animated release for Voyager Blackout! Even though we have previously seen the Hasbro release in videos and pictures, sadly it is yet to be released. Will Takara-Tomy beat Hasbro to the punch?

Whoa. Surprisingly little shiny.

I may have to get this one, especially if I don't hear anything about a Hasbro release soon.

checking, the difference between this and the previous test shots (of presumably the Hasbro version) are:

A more neutral gray (Hasbro was slightly brown/beige)
regular purple 'con symbols (duh)
Solid red eyes versus beady dots on Hasbro
Metallic paint on copter engines/wings, with stripes/symbols on engines. (gold stripes/symbols on Hasbro)

Actually, this is more the kind of Takara/Hasbro toy difference I was hoping for, as opposed to the "more shiny!" for most Animated toys.
AMG
He is completely awesome.

Same here. Animated is sadly the only line that i actually have a "real" collection of. But i love them all!
Toxicon
Dig the eyes.
Harbinger
i think i might preorder this from BBTS.
Eric
Lovely.

here is the hasbro version differences. all that is different is the eyes, the purple insignia on chest and panels, the eyes (which are not show accurate on takara) and the takara does look a little more grey and the red looks a shade different:

This is the first one I got before they added the crown crest:

I love and need this toy to live!!!!!!

I hope Blackout isn't a Tak/Tom exclusive.

You'll also notice that between these Hasbro prototypes and Takara's final product, the Hasbro figures have a very glossy surface finish to the molded parts and their overall molded details seem a bit poorly produced, with areas and parts not fitting completely flush.

While on the opposite end, the Takara figure has trademark "flat" mold surface texture/treatment that all Animated toys sport and it's molded details seem much sharper/more refined, and all the parts fit completely flush.

I remember hearing that part of the reason as to why the later Animated toys were delayed was due to problems with the molds. It seems that with the Takara figure, they finally have addressed this issue.
Valkysas
I don't think it's Takara. doesnt match the rest of the line.

Seems like an updated Hasbro deco to me.

Hasbro, Takara... whoever brings this out first gets my money! I'm actually happy to see this guy isn't saturated in shiny paint. He could work for either collection.

disagreed

the purple Decepticon symbol would seem to be a strong indicator that this is Takara/Tomy
MrSoundwaveGuy
I actually like this better than Hasbro's so if it doesn't see the light of day I'll get the Tak version
netkid
Holy Shit he DOES look like Wilford Brimley!

I'm the last kid on the planet to bitch about any of the Transformer releases, but if they release this in Japan and not in the US i may very well go ballistic.

Me too. I want him and rodimus.
Orion_Prime48
how can we really say this is Takara if a Hasbro version was never actually released? (testshots, protos and the stolen ones dont count)

because all of takaras have the purple insignia. no hasbro animated has that except for the purple shockwave deco target exclusive.

i have the hasbro version and a test shot styled one, he is still getting released stateside.
blackout501st
all i can really say is, ill be slightly irritated if japan gets animated blackout before the us dose. we've been waiting months for this guy. plus, hes the first NEW blackout mold of any kind we've had since 07...

The hiarious resemlance to 'Mr. Diabeetus' is the sole reason I'd get this if it was relesed stateside since otherwise it looks like trash.
Optimus Prime
I don't care who releases him, as long as I get one. I prefer the Takara version, looking at the pics of each. It'll be an expensive import, but well worth it; I really like the TF:A Blackout toy's looks.

Interesting. I'm presuming the stolen Hasbro ones were, as usual, stolen from a production line in a Hasbro factory, which would lead me to believe that it should be coming out, but as far as I know, there was only a few stolen ones to come out (I could be wrong - there may be 20 on eBay right now, and I don't even now it), so it's kind of weird. It's as if Hasbro pulled the plug on Blackout at the last minute. Personally, I hated the look of it, but the paint job on this one looks a lot nicer. Plus, since all the newer figures don't seem to be coming to New Zealand (hey, we didn't even get Sentinel Prime, Swoop, and Elite Guard Bumblebee. Although, we did get Blitzwing, Wreck-Gar, and Atomic Lugnut, but that's about it, and those were rare; now they're impossible to find), then if this is the TakaraTomy version, it'll be a lot cheaper for me than importing the Hasbro version, since Japan is closer to NZ than the US, and so it's a lot cheaper for shipping (plus, the exchange rate isn't too bad [Yen-NZD]).

The lack of metallic paint makes me think this is the Hasbro version, but whatever it is... I like it.

I doubt it. There's no law that says TakaraTomy must use metallic paint. Look at Animated Blackarachnia. Maybe it's just bad pictures, but it looks the exact same as the Hasbro version. This definitely has different colours to the original one we saw. Then again, as I said, it seems as if Hasbro pulled the plug on Blackout at the last minute.

With the remainder of Animated up in the air, i'm inclined to think the Hasbro versions of the toys not released so far may end up being idendical to the Takara ones.
Johnator
That is one ugly looking toy. I've seen a lot of cooler looking Go-Bots than that.

Agreed. It's like Classics / Henkei. The toys that had been released (& imported heavily) were changed a lot to give collectors incentive to buy again. The ones that were coming out closer to their US releases like Prowl, not so much.

If this is the Takara one, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be because of the purple logos and metallic finish on the wings, then I'm happy I preordered the Japanese release off Kapow, because he'll "fit" with the rest of my collection.

Hasbro did always say they'd try to find an outlet for the remaining toys, technically getting them released in Japan knowing us fans would find a way to import them if we really wanted them would count as an outlet. Main thing is, we get a shot at owning these really cool toys.
Rotorstorm
I'll pass, looks better than the Hasbro version but I still would have preferred a Strika.
shroobmaster
So close yet so far away...

You know you love it. Otherwise you'd do something silly like ... ignore it.

You're like the little schoolboy who hits the girl he likes. Denial will only confirm it.
SPLIT LIP
Awesome. Now if Blackout doesn't get released here, or is hard to find, I can order this.
Human Beastbox
Diggin' Brimley bot the most.

He's as good as pre-ordered.

Looks like that may be my only shot to get a hold of one, just like the Japanese Animated Arcee has ended up for me.

Probably will be the case if the new TRU Arcee and Ratchet are any indication so far.

Whilst Animated is of little interest to me, i think them not appearing at standard retail would pose a challenge to people who can't get their hands on imported versions.

Maybe the remainder of the new molds could be released in Japan first, then repackaged without any deco changes, released at TRU, either late this year, or a bit before the next movie line starts up next year?

It all remains to be seen, I guess.

Truth be told, most times I'd personally rather pay a bit for a TakTomy import than try to land many U.S. store exclusives. Between collector/scalper fervor and living in an area with piss-poor distribution, I'd rather at least pay a bit extra for a Japanese import I KNOW THAT I can get a hold of.

^ We're lucky in that we can obtain toys through souces other than standard retailers, or Hasbro.

For those who aren't so lucky, i hope they get some shot at these that's all.
Ravage_Eject
Very cool! Thanks for the pics!
TRANS+CRAZY
Wow, that's awesome!

If Hasbro doesn't release Blackout like they said they would, I'm so going to buy the Takara one.
jetfire4321
sweet it looks looks like he has a mustache lol
MekaGojira3k
It's beautiful.
Rayzilla Prime
I love how he's basically Movie Blackout in Animated style.

Definitely picking him up if/when he's released in the states. I lurves me some helicopters.
SoundFire Prime
What a relief it is to see this. Since none of the new remaining Animated figures had been seen at recent conventions and no official images had been released, I was beginning to think that any chance for release had been forever lost.
col
Love it! I'm surprised how much I like the flat red eyes. Hopefully we'll get word of him showing up here in the U.S. soon. Getting tired of waiting for new Animated!
