Anyone have a guesstimate how early BBTS ships their orders. I preordered magnus and it says August, any possibility of July?

I'm not overly fond of Magnus... I'm on the "they could have done better" boat... Maybe scrapped the electronics (eye lights, mostly) and removed the mouth gimmick... Other than that, though, I don't have much of a problem with it... I think I'll save my cash for other things.

I'm painting that cab white. Why the FUCK is it a light blue? Honestly what is going through Hasbro's minds when they make such obvious flaws? Oh wait, the white cab is only available on the PREMIUM Animated Leader Class Ultra Magnus. Or the more show accurate First Strike Animated Leader Class Ultra Magnus. FUCK.

Wow dude seriously its a toy calm down and the color works fine, why does it have to be white just cuz the g1 is white? Thats like complaining that hes not a car carrier.

Y'know, Hasbro might change things when it hits the States...

I think it's because the one they used for the stock photos had a white cab.
Stock photos always look better than the real thing.

Its white in the animation

So obviously nobody read my post

It's NOT WHITE in the animation. It's light blue. See the link I attached before. It looks white in some parts because of lighting. I'm not saying white wouldn't have perhaps been better, but it DOES match the show.

Actually, I just realized our own gallery has some better images. It is even move obvious in pics with Jazz as well, as his white is much whiter (now I feel like a laundry soap ad):

Those aren't the lines from the show at all, "Don't be a hero.." is definitely delivered in a different manner with a strong emphasis on "not".

I thought they literally just used the recorded dialogue from the show, why re-record it after all.

Wow, I hadn't noticed all the arm markings they left off. Lame. Well, if you get it matched, paint the rest of his hand, too. Or, make it easy on yourself and paint it all white

So can his shoulders move freely now? Thats the big deal breaker for me.

Maybe the recordings for the toys had to be in the can before the shows were recorded.

Amazing how many people are up in arms over the light blue. Ultra Magnus is ruined forever?

I think the pics of jtaurus give a little of misinterpetation on the colour. I've seen many other photos of Magnus and it's more like blueish white/white than lightblue. Also the blue colour is darker in the other pics I've seen.

I've bought one by the way, hope he gets here soon.

Testors "Model Master" enamel color "Duck Egg Blue" (FS35622) should get you very close to what you need. It's also a flat color which should match the faintly textured plastic on Animated toys.

And let us all know if it works, so we know if we should spend the money on that paint ourselves

you know its wierd but the blue as you have it longer seems to get lighter and lighter it really isnt as pronounced as my pics make it out to be. its very light and subdued.

When the Transformers franchise first came to the Silver Screen in 1986, several new characters were introduced. Among the most memorable of the newcomers was Ultra Magnus, the Autobot's "City Commander" who featured so prominently in the initial artwork. And while Ultra Magnus was certainly a visually dynamic character with a good deal of potential, the screenwriters chose to send him on a one-way path to oblivion and ridicule with six career-destroying words.


Thus, Ultra Magnus wandered through relative obscurity for a decade and a half (give or take) until Dreamwave comics drafted a story that had him abandon his traditional power-armor and take on the appearance of a white Optimus Prime. Hasbro & Takara, always looking for easy solutions to fill shelf space, jumped on this idea and proceeded to crank out no less than a dozen Prime repaints with new white paint, supposedly sealing Ultra Magnus' fate. The only noticeable exception was one obscure Japanese series where the designers apparently missed the memo stating (UM=Prime[white]).


Now, Animated-always eager to take their own liberties with G1 source material- has given Ultra Magnus one more chance to shine anew!



The official classification for Ultra Magnus' Vehicle Mode is-and I quote- "Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck." Its a high-powered military vehicle designed for hauling (presumably) weapons. Its an excellent vehicle, very compact and detailed. It should be noted that the front section-which we presumed was pure white based on initial photos-is actually a very light shade of blue.



Ultra Magnus's Robot Mode is a visually impressive piece. He's much larger than most other Animated Autobots (with the possible exception of Bulkhead) and shows a fine balance of height and muscle.

Articulation is wonderful; he's got all kinds of movements supported by very solid ratchet joints. Magnus' trademark weapon in the Animated series is his almighty Ban-Hammer, a weapon seemingly "inspired" by Marvel Comics' legendary hero Thor. Since the ability to shoot lightning and summon storms does not translate well to toy form, Ultra Magnus compensates for this loss by having no fewer than a dozen hidden guns.

Like previous Leaders, Ultra Magnus has 3 distinctive voice clips-

"Ultra Magnus here!"

"We must return the Allspark to Cybertron!"

"Don't be a hero Optimus; It's not in your programming."

He is also compatible with the Headmaster unit, but that does not change the sounds.




Ultra Magnus is the third installment in the Leader-class for the Animated line, and he is without a doubt the best of the bunch. He's visually impressive without being simplistic and isn't bogged down with an unusual secondary gimmick. In short, Ultra Magnus is an absolutely GORGEOUS figure and deserves a spot in anyone's collection. In the span of three hours he's become my favorite Animated figure and is quite possibly within my Top Five purchases for all of 2008.

awesome. only the colours are a bit of a letdown, im finding the colour choices in animated a bit off, think BB's yellow. the colours work better in UM robot mode where the etra detailing works well to add interest.

I dont know why but the G1 plastic just seemed to carry the details in a much sharper way, the new almost pearly plastic of recent TF's doesnt do it as well.

Didn't G1 use diecast for a lot of it?

I imagine that would help carry details.
