Peaugh:
He's shorter than I would have thought:

Still, pretty nice looking figure!
hotspot17:
Will they make a leader version of him?
BlackMegatron:
wow, he's great! And I 'm not realy crazy about the animated look...
Codimus Prime:
Wow... thats a buy for me when it comes out. It reminds me of a G1 Grimlock in so many ways!

It would be cool, but I'd like for the toyline to get a single class for each figure. I don't care to buy the deluxe only to have a nicer leader come out months down the road. Just my opinion.
hutchprime:
Still mis-transformed arms, no?

Still looks great. Can't wait for MIB items to show up.
microclone:
hes rather tiny but i prefer TF to be smaller over larger. im still hoping the orange parts will end up in metallic. looks like his tail base if different than the grey proto. overall i love it, i like the contrast between the black and the other pastel like colours. the grey proto pics show the elbow sections further in, maybe the black parts are supposed to be pushed up inside the upper arm?

i love the robo legs, solid all around and look like 'proper' TF legs. easily my fave animated toy so far.
jdre_124:
He's so beautiful!!
Master Fwiffo:
It looks like we have two different scales in Animated. Grimlock here looks to be sized perfectly with Delux Prime, Voyager Bulkhead, Voyager Megatron, and Lugnut. But he's to small to be with the other Delux figures, Voyager Prime, and the Leaders.

If we had proper basics, that problem would be fixed.
Robogeek28:
Hmmm, he's a little shorter than Id've liked, but no biggie. He still looks absolutely gorgeous and is the one I'm most excited about getting!
Sso02V:
looks like he does have little fold out flames on his sword. I'm still curious about the joint in the middle of his tail though.
ckhtiger:
man, I think he'd look sweet if you took a dremel and shaved off the bottom part of his jaw. he'd look just like the original!
microclone:
possibly the closest G1 'version' of any new toy so far, only his hands significantly detract from the vintage transformation.
Red leader:
ha ha! cheers mate! top pics as per usual, your really coming thru on the animated stuff for us, bring on the soundwave

for those not liking the trapjaw look one could always use the classics head.
funkatron101:
I love the color scheme!
General Magnus:
I love that huge jaw of grimmy
1987olds442:
I really like the bulky look to his Robot mode. I can't wait for this guy to hit the store. Grimlock and the other Dinobots are probably the only animated figures that I'm going to be purchasing
SMOG:
It's starting to worry me that every pic we see of this guy is with those "mistransformed" arms.

Other than that, it's lookin' good. Is this guy definitely a Voyager though? He is pretty small. I mean, considering that locally, he's going to cost DOUBLE what that Deluxe Optimus will. It's really making the Voyager price point less and less attractive.

Boo, Hasbro... Boo!

Yeah, there's a tab on the sword itself that slides forward and pops out the flames. You can see it just above the "WE" in the 6th pic, and under Grimlock's left foot in the last pic.
delta7890:
Oooh man. This is gonna be a must-buy for me.
Fort Max:
Man, he has a really stubby tail and his arms still look a little bleh.
He's cool but I think I can wait til he's released.
T-money:
Thanks for the pics, Peaugh. You do a great job with the breaking news/pics with the animated toy line. Your efforts are much appreciated.

I agree with the earlier post about the arms still looking like they are a bit mis-transformed. Can anyone confirm this?

This figure is a definite must have for me.

Well, I just did a comparison, and Grimlock looks to be just a TEESNY but shorter than Voyager Optimus, who's currently the tallest of the voyager figures (but still shorter than Lockdown).

Wait, Starscream is a little taller than Optimus, depending on how you position his legs. Still, Grimlock is by no means tiny.
Golden Age:
Grimlock rocks
Team Jetfire:
Looks great! Love the exaggeration on jaw in beast mode.
Spartan Prime:
I'm all over this one. Can't wait for these Animated figures!
Hound & Mirage:
They should sell a two pack of Decepticon repaints of this mold. It could come with a comic called "Underbite and Overkill (Accidentally) Save Manhattan."

Maybe make it a teamup with The Tick.
Devastattor:
I've got to start rehabbing my G1 Grimlock so I can put them side-by-side. I just need to dig out his sword and chest plate (or try to buy them loose) and I'll be all set. Got to start making so shelf space.
Akumaxv:
Sweet Jeebus, that is a great looking figure.

I don't know how anyone can not like Animated. There's something for everyone to like.
Paradigm-Shift Prime:
Thanks for all the info Peaugh.

I like him.
But:
So that's a voyager? Wow. He looks quite smaller than Bulkhead, who is already pretty tiny for a voyager.
Synthetic Breed:
I'm curious where his tail is stored in Alt mode.

Ummm, check out Peaugh's sig for an idea how small Bulkhead is.....Grimlock will be much taller.

You're ... joking, right? His tail becomes his legs...

And I always thought that "Alt" mode was the non-robot mode?
Synthetic Breed:
Shit, I meant to put where his sword goes. I know where his tail goes i'm not blind dude lol. I thought Alt mode was vehicle and the other was robot mode. Not a big deal. Let me rephrase, where does his sword go in T-Rex mode?

Oh, he's quite a bit taller than Bulkhead. Bulkhead is shorter than deluxe prime, Grimlock is taller.
Yobuster:
Well Alt_mode is always their non-robot mode.

Grimlock looks awesome, absolutely faithful to his G1 counterpart. Just looking at the transformation and which body part becomes which, reminds me of total G1. Hope he won't be short packed like in classics.

Honestly, likely nowhere. Sucks, but no worse than any other Grimlock

What I guess I'd like to see would be a comparison between Animated figures and figures from other recent lines to get a clearer idea of where they stand. I mean, I remember when Movie Blackout came out, and he felt smallish for a Voyager. It seems sort of like the Voyager class is shrinking (but then, Movie Ratchet was pretty huge, so it's inconsistent).

I just know that seeing Grimlock standing next to Dlx Optimus (who is about an average sized Dlx) sort of depressed me, seeing as one will cost twice as much as the other, and functionally close to the same size class.

I don't see why should they. The figure is perfect as it is.

And he is so reminiscent of G1 Grimlock. Actualy, he's the same figure, just stylized in the animated fashion.
Railguard:
These two look really cool, its going to be tuff to pass. I might have to pick up Soundwave though (when it comes out).
Feralstorm:
Aside from the pevasive "Grimlock should be bigger than God" idea, I haven't seen much in the cartoon to give a strong indication of the Animated Dinobots' sizes/heights so far, especially in robot mode. The closest I've seen so far was the wide shot near the end of the "Survival of the Fittest", right before Collosus and the monster guys get defeated. In that shot, Grimlock's robot mode seems obviously smaller than Bulkhead, in much the same way Optimus is smaller than Bulkhead (as in - not necessarily much shorter, but with far less massive proportions.) a far shot like that is hardly a solid guide though. Looks like if any Dinobot is gonna have a too-small toy, it's gonna be Slag/Snarl, who appears to be of an almost Bulkhead-like mass, and not a lot shorter than Grimlock, in the cartoon.

We really need to find some good scans of the size-comparison cartoon model sheets.
NGW:
Though I think he looks great and I will definitely get him (along with the rest of the line), I am so sick of getting short voyager figures. First Blackout from the movie line (though probably some before that, was a long while between me collecting BW and the movie line). Then Bulkeahd, Lugnut, now Grimlock. WTF
Ktulu:
Storm:
i think he looks good, plus he's about in scale with voyager Bulkhead and Lugnutz by the looks of things.

for the other dinos i think slag/snarl should be voyage because of his bulk and Swoop could do the lockdown thing as he looks quite gangly it shouldn't be too hard to make a tall fig from a voyager

Same here. I'm starting to wonder if they actually do slide into the upper portion (anymore) or instead just fold back and bend at the elbow to "shorten" them.

Where his size is concerned, I doubt we'll get a Leader class version and actually think his Voyager size is pretty much to scale. My impression of what Animated intends to do is to only make Leader sizes of characters that are obviously WAY bigger than everyone else - Megatron, Bulkhead, Ultra Magnus and hopefully Lugnut. Based on what we've seen so far in the show, nothing seems to indicate that Grimock or any of The Dinobots necessarily tower over everyone else.
Peaugh:
Well, to get an idea, look at my sig pic. Grimlock's the same height (possibly just a teensy bit taller) as Megatron. He's hardly tiny.
joopsta:
Those arms do slide into the upper portion. These people just can't seem to transform him properly.
LoserBroadside:
Wow. This gets everything right that the Classics Grimlock got wrong.

I love it!
Peaugh:
Yeah, you can kind of see it here:

The legs slide into the upper arms, and the elbow hinge should slide forward on the forearm so the hinge is up near the front of that slot behind the green 'F.'
J Migidy:
Codimus Prime
Wow... thats a buy for me when it comes out. It reminds me of a G1 Grimlock in so many ways!

Yeah the engineering for this one was done back in the 80s. From the pictures it looks like he even transforms like his G1 version.
