"Thanks to the Arker who has posted some new images of the a new new repaint of the Transformers Animated Activators class Optimus Prime action figure. The new figure named "Armor Up Optimus Prime" has been repainted in a similar red, white and blue motif but with some changes in apps to his body parts
Most interesting is the yellow star on the chest that is dead ringer for Star Convoy character (see pic below) from the Battle Stars Japan only series. He's got a new character bio summary as well:
"In preparation for a massed attack on the Decepticons, Optimus Prime orders his autobots to upgrade their armor. Working with Autobot Ratchet, he mounts improved armor plating on his frame, giving him the toughness he needs to withstand even the most powerful fusion blast."

Animated Prime's chest has always been a homage to Star Convoy's. Compare the shape of the windows. This redeco just makes it more obvious by adding the star.

Yeah, a few random similarities doesn't make an homage, from my perspective... but it's certainly more probable than some of the other supposed homages out there.

I'm pretty sure it was intentional. The shape of the windows and the lights underneath are hardly a random similarity, both elements match pretty closely. Animated was riddled with fan wank. Also, if you consider the oft-mentioned similarities of Animated (earth mode) Megatron and Super Megatron, it seems even more likely.
Perhaps "homage" is still too strong a description, as the entire design is not the same, but I think at the very least some partial inspiration is clear.

Considering that Animated has already included obscure Japanese-exclusive characters like Grandus and Sky Garry in the show, it's pretty damn obvious that this deco is a Star Convoy homage.
