 | | | First Image of Colored Animated Grimlock Toy | | Posted on 03-10-2008 at 09:02 AM by Tim Formas | | A poster on the Actoys.net message boards has revealed the first colored photo of the Animated Autobot Grimlock toy. The photo, as seen in the Actoys.net link and the image to the left, features Grimlock in his T-Rex dinosaur mode and shows the sword he can hold while in robot mode. Unfortunately, no pictures of his robot mode were provided. The release date time frame for the Animated Grimlock toy is currently unknown.

I wonder if swoop and Snarl will light up too? Snarl probably will.
Kluster Bombs:
Damn! Grimlock looks cool!
DeathStorm:
Alright, now that I've seen the bot mode I'm definately on board with this whole Animated line.
I'm not so sure I'm diggin the longer arms or the hands on Grimmy but he still looks nice.
shroobmaster:
Grimlock is AWESOME, but I think the dude... mistransformed him!
The dino-head shouldn't be his ass.
Turnpike:
AWWWWW... The Rex mode looked fantastic, but WTF happened to those arms?! Absolutely horrible. I'll get him, but keep him in dino mode the entire time.

Robogeek28:
There's a disclaimer above the bot mode pic stating he's mistransformed JUST in case one or two people start hating on him for looking terrible in bot mode.
Of course we all know that no one would EVER jump the gun about something like that right? Golden Age:
Robot mode looks great too. It looks mistransformed in the arms though.
QuinJester:
That's ... beautiful. Oh man.
atlianz:
Yeap... A definate must get!!
netkid:
WOW!
Its prehistoric perfection! He's incredibly accurate to the show. I'm impressed!
Hasbro's Transformers Team really put in a lot of time and hard work on this figure and it shows. If they're reading this, then I must say, they all did a tremendous job! Not only on this individual figure, but on the Animated line as a whole. Keep up the excellent work!
If I could only buy 1 Transformers Animated figure (which surely won't be the case), Grimlock would be it.
I never imagined that I would be looking forward to the Animated line MORE than I was with Classics! Amazing stuff! MnemonicSyntax:
This is the first I've seen of animated Grimlock, and I really love his bottom jaw. Gives him that "dumb" but "I have this big mouth and I'll bite your head off with it if you call me dumb" look.
ckhtiger:
while I like the rest of the figure, I'm starting to think that I might swap the head with classics grimlock. I realized that it's the head designs that make me dislike the animated line, and by changing those up, I'll be more into the figures.
CrackerBoy:
I like the prototype arms better. The colored versions look to skinny where they extend.
Maboroshi:
Judging from the unpainted version, these are what are mistransformed:
-His arms were left extended instead of being retracted into the upper arms.
-The dino-head was left hanging down the back instead of being transformed into the plate sitting behind his head in the proto pic.
-His dino-mode arms were left hanging outwards instead of being rotated within the wings
It appears that there is a slight difference in the kneecaps but it doesnt look like a mistransformation, it might just be a slight mold change. Or maybe im crazy. It looks like they pulled the red part up to make a rotating point or a breakoff point. The waist was also remolded, it is now pointier.
BarBoBot:
WOW probably the best Animated figure yet IMO
defstar:
Totally awesome...someone please open the mouth in Dino mode... Avon:
Looks amazing, but I really wish he had a bit more poseability in his arms; doesnt look like there's a bicep swivel, or much lateral movement to be had at the shoulders.
I only nitpick 'cause I love!
Maboroshi:
Here is a picture illustrating the mold changes.
You can find my post about what is mistransformed and changed here.
And here is simply a version of the bot mode photo I enhanced because it was a little too overlit. GUIGUI:
Mwahahahaha! Fear The Crotch Of Doom!

KA:
hey guys I think his arms is mistransformed.
NIDARAM12:
Are those WRIST JOINTS? Love it.
SMOG:
Not to say I don't LOVE this mold as it is...
...but I'm thinking that an enterprising kitbasher could probably sculpt and glue some detailing, and make a few changes to this figure to get a pretty solid neo-Classics Grimlock. Replace the head with Energon Grimlock's dino head, carve off Grimmy's trap-jaw. Chisel some hard edges and glue some surface detail junk on... it could be a credible second-coming of G1 Grimlock that wouldn't look too out-of-place with a Classics collection.
And if this figure is indeed a Voyager (and hopefully a big one, not a runty one like Bulkhead), that would put him in a proper size class as well.
So yeah... somebody do that, K? I want to see it.

Optimus747:
That really is an impressive figure.

zmog | While I like Trap jaw, I would lik eto see this figure possibly with a realistic flesh shell like the show.
I think it could be done. Something Beast warsy.

A truely amazing figure.
hutchprime:
I think it might be possible that his arms are mistransformed or something.
swarlock:
Damn! That is so very nice.
Incepticon:
Jesus, I hate it when threads do this. Can a moderator update the first post or title to read BOT MODE PICS ARE MISTRANSFORMED so that every second post doesn't continue to be "I think it's mistransformed"? It's already been clearly stated several times now on previous pages that, yeah, the bot mode is screwed up.
God forbid anyone actually reads the threads they're posting in... eesh.
Grimlock_13:
I could nitpick on both modes but overall it does look VERY nice. Definitely buying it for sure.
MACRAPTRON:
These definitely WON'T need Masterpiece versions by 2030. Gotta collect them all Glitcher:
Funny how Grimlock's T-Rex mode seems a little bloated like his G1 incarnate. And here I was thinking scientific understanding of T-Rex's had evolved since the days when they were thought to be fat and drag their tails around. Robogeek28: Quote:
Originally Posted by Incepticon God forbid anyone actually reads the threads they're posting in... eesh. | Which just confirms my post a couple pages back. GreenScream:
That looks nice. I've always been a fan of the animated designs, problem is I just can't get into the cartoon.
Paradigm-Shift Prime:
Looks pretty cool, transformation looks somewhat similar to G1!
The arms look goofy though, I hope they have sideways elbow articulation but it looks like they don't...
Peaugh:
You know, I just realized why we haven;t seen him posed with his jaw open in dino mode. It's on a spring. That grey button on the back of his neck in dino mode has to activate some sort of chomping gimmick.

That would mean no poses with his mouth open, unless it was propped open with something.

This figure continues Animated's 1.000 batting average in my book. And this one's a homer!
His 'bot mode arms look funny, though. Could they be mistransformed?

Also, mistransformations for the epic lulz.
I wouldn't have thought this was a hard toy to operate, apparently I thought wrong...
It is very, very nice, it's going to be a long wait til this is on the shelves. Quote:

Or just take it apart and snip the spring right out...
Blaque_Ravage:
Awesome Dinobot mode...but damn? Is his arms mis-transformed in bot mode it looks weird the shape of his arms.
Sy-Rein:
I'm really liking these animated dinobots. I might have to pick them up when released.

And thanks Peaugh for helping us fans drool over ol' Animated Grimlock some more. Peaugh: Quote:

I think it could be done. Something Beast warsy. | That could probably be done pretty easily. The way he transforms, I don't think that there'd be a lot of conflict or interference if someone re-skinned him with some organic tissue.
Personally, I HATE organic alt-modes on TFs, but it could be done. Quote:

I mean, every grade schooler knows that now, so it's hardly a big revelation to point it out.
More likely, they wanted to capture the cute, stompy persona that Grimlock had in the G1 days... which fits the cartoony style of TF:Animated even better than the old G1 toon. Considering how stylized and exaggerated most human beings are drawn in Animated, the T-Rex that Grimlock transforms into is practically an anatomical paleontology diagram!

Darkspeed:
Yes! This is what I've been waiting for - Been eager to see the paint scheme on Grimlock for ages, and I am so pleased with what I see!
Both him and Soundwave will be mine, garanteed!
