A TFW2005 member has acquired an image of the robot mode for the colored Animated Autobot Grimlock we reported on this morning. This new image, along with several other pictures of Animated Grimlock in his T-Rex dinosaur mode can be seen by clicking on the image to the left. When viewing the robot mode picture, please keep in mind that the arms are mistransformed along with the location of the T-Rex head and not representative of the full transformation of the toy.

Liokaiser:
I so want this piece. Hell I'm loving everything I see in the animated line. This Grimlock looks better that the Energon one.
IronicHide:
My03Tundra's suggestion that the sword fits in the dino-mode mouth (to suggest fire breath) is carved from solid win.

Poysonally, I'm not in to non-vehicle (or 'Cybertron' mode) Transformer toys but BA and this Grimlock could finally see me crack.

Hmmm, does that jaw look strong enough to have Classics Skywarp hanging caught in it?
DeathStorm:
Can't wait to see this pop up on ebay in the coming weeks...for $200+

I realize the movie toys sold well so stores demanded more stock of them, but c'mon, Hasbro...use some common sense here! This is either ignorance on their part or a brilliant marketing strategy to drive up demand for Animated figures. Regardless, I could see some of these figures being hard to get.

a light gimmick would be awesome its possible an led could be in the sword but I doubt it, that would be very cool though. it probably relies on its own 'light piping' as such.

Lol, I'd be happy if you could just fit Bulkhead's wrecking ball in there.
RodimusZero:
WOW. That is DAMN nice.

The tab is only translucent because the whole sword is made of that plastic, this way hasbro only have to paint the grip, hilt and rocky bits.

You could however maybe rig something up with a fibre optic cable channeled through the arms with the light source and batteries stored in the torso. Assuming there's not already something in the torso, like his hips for instance.
microclone:
notice in the proto sword there are separate pieces of 'flame' protuding at the edges, these arent seen on the coloured sword but the gaps where they emerge from are there, some type of gimmick going on there perhaps??

i also hope that the orange parts are actually going to be finalised in the gold, the claws for eg just HAVE to be gold, the gold trim is present on the legs, he would look way better with the orange sections in the metallic paint. you can see the bot chest which is also orange, again, judging by the toon, thats a gold finish too.
LigerPrime:
I got to admit he does look good! The colour scheme somehow adds to the appeal of the toy! Let's how the final version looks as good as that!
Megatronwp38:
looks nice!

Well, Prowl DOES have his traffic light. But either way, I'd rather have the loose sword than a compromised transformation, and most of the time I toss weapons into the parts bag anyhoo, so this is fine by me.

Oh, and that dino mode is hothothot. I love the gold trim, and the Shoveljaw is awesome.
Johnator:
This looks A LOT better than the rest of the Animated toys. I might buy this one.

That would be very cool, and enable the sword to be taken apart to make lighting it even easier.

Very true, but the traffic light is supposed to be something he just grabs off the street antway, it's not his signature weapon.
You have however disproven my statement that Grimlock is the first toy to have loose parts though so well palyed to you Sir.

Ironically I actually have Prowl and yet completely forgot about the traffic light...
newguy:
the sword is really chunky + it looks like the thie will end up on his chest

Also, it looks like a couple more ridges near the tip of the sword will be painted in final versions.
i notice the side of the proto sword is the same one facing us in the colour shot, the emerging flames (as seen on the grey one) could be extended out with a button or slide mechanism thats probably on the other side of the sword.
salmonman78:
Pure awesome, I'm speechless.
shibamura_prime:
Sword = HAWT.
kenm2474:
That is a definate Buy. Man that looks just like the cartoon.
kenm2474:
To me it looks like the Flames will come out of teh sword threw the moving of the ornge tab to hold the sword to Grimmys hand. Otherwise that part would be black like the handle.
Banshee:
I can't wait for this toy to make sweet, sweet love to my voyager Bulkhead on my shelf...

but no kissing.

Because of the jaws.
MegaPrime33:
I must say, that is pretty damn amazing. I mean for the sword alone!
Rumble02:
oh me wantz
Hiro Prime:
A must have for my shelf for sure.

My only complaint would be the excessive amount of Orange. I hope his tiny arms are a little more painted.
RobotoChan:
Toygasm !!!

Must get around half a dozen of those. I really want an army of Grimlocks on my desk
Fosterlager:
Meh. I prefer my Action Master Grimmy.

Turnpike:
The Animated toy-line is simply amazing. Best TF toyline, since I don't know when! Grimlock is now officially on my #1 stop of MUST-HAVE animated TFs, next to Lugnut.

OMG he has an Autobot symbol.. Spoiler perhaps?
Cax6ton:
made of win
Silent_Magnus:
I just noticed his beast mode eyes have light piping,
I love it when beast mode eyes have light piping.

hopefully the orange is the primer/undercoat for the metallic gold.
Type-R:
A definite must get figure from the line. The colours work very well on the figure. Glad to see Hasbro hasn't cheaped out on the paint apps. They did a great job on the energo sword too what with the molten, flame effect with the light piping and gradient effect with the black paint.

Can't wait to see Swoop and Blitzwing next.
Dirge121:
Do want, I can't wait to get this guy. I only hope I am as impressed with Swoop as I am with Grimlock and Snarl/Slag.
aprim:
I Must Have 2 Of These Asap!
tominatrix:
is it wrong for a toy to give you a woody?
Devastattor:
Echoing a lot of previous replies here: Love it. Pay homage to the great G1 character I loved as a kid, transformation and all. I especially like that he's not as dumpy as the original character-much leaner, faster, and tougher looking. Kudos to the designers for making a classic even better.
Takara_destron:
Tasty
Thats another one to the ever growing animated want list
DINOBOTT:
Truly awesome! I really hope that he is the largest voyager in animated.(or they make a leader class!)

Can't wait for comparison pics.

What "main networks children watch"? You mean show it once a week on saturday morning and ignore the chance to give it free syndication after the end of the first season? Because all those 'main network' cartoons don't see as much air time as a CN original cartoon will because CN can put their shows on during the daytime, on weekdays, so more kids can, and will, watch. The major networks only show cartoons now once a week, so their not being watched by as many kids as the full time cartoon channels.

Hasbro had a great idea to go with CN on this show, as they not only got a great team behind it, but they have near guarenteed weekday syndication down the road, meaning kids will see this show a lot more often then they'll see those other saturday morning cartoons. Nowadays Cable is the place to go if kids want to watch cartoons because the major networks just don't show any.

As for Grimlock, he looks great but that steamshovel chin still bothers me. It's still up in the air whether i'll get him or not.
Brandon:
Sexy.
Renidragon:
That's pretty sweet.

As far as a lightup sword... highly highly doubtful, but if you recall, Micron Legend Hot Rod (yanno, Hot Shot?) had a light up hand for the Star Saber... so it's a very very very small possibility.
Lion:
I really like it. Its shaping up to be a really cool line. I wasn't sure about it, but I've watched a few episodes in the last few days, and I have to say Grimlock is my fav so far...
Smasher:
I love the figure. I hope there is some way to the hide the sword when he is a T-rex though.

But, you know, I actually think the American Godzilla looked cool.
I liked the character design even though I had major problems with the movie itself.

Not trying to argue (and slightly off topic) but I think Hasbro has definitely succeeded in making Transformers popular again. I think they may be more popular now than they ever were.
My kid loves the Animated cartoon. His friends in school watch it and talk about it.
The movie has been insanely popular, and even though the last few waves of toys have been largely just repaints, they continue to sell out everywhere I look.
Even some of the FABs which I thought would be shelf warmers sell well.
P. Smitty:
Grimlock is 'teh awesomness' but I can unfortunately see this figure going the way of Concept BB from the movie line - rediculously scalped. I just hope I find mine before the scalpers do.

Personally, I don't think we'll have a big problem with scalpers with this line (at least not as big as we did with the movie line). This line will be aimed at just kids, so there won't be as much competition from other age groups wanting them, so I don't think scalpers will see much potential in the line for profit like they did with the movie line. Hopefully Grimlock isn't hard to find, as I can't wait to get him (possibly more than one of him too). It'd be cool to see an Activators version of him, and possibly a Leader class version, but that's unlikely at the moment, imo, though it would be really cool to see and get.
jazz4ever:
ugh il have to get him too animated is just to cool the color scheme is very g1ish and it also adds some new elements to it to its just to bad theres only a picture of him in dino mode but thats awsome
Peaugh:
Keep in mind the arms are mistransformed, the black bits slide into the upper arms, the dino head should flip up, and the dino arms should fold into the wings.

Grimlock = Epic Success!
Incepticon:
Good god... the show-to-toy accuracy of these things is unreal! Not only am I completely sold on this series - which has already turned out to be the single most unique line if TF ever imo - but now I'm considering buying doubles of each figure to the bot & alt modes looking so good.
Tekkaman Blade:
Looks Great.
KING KONVOY:
ME GRIMLOCK ...KING!

other than Prime, Grimlock and Magnus are my favorite characters!
