 | | | | | | | Derrick Wyatt on Animated Jetfire & Jetstorm's Jet mode and the Season 3 design sketches | | Posted on 10-04-2008 at 08:04 AM by Sol Fury | RSS Feeds | Derrick Wyatt has posted a further couple of tidbits of information on his blog about Animated Jetfire and Jetstorm. This time, he comments on their combined jet mode, which is also mistransformed in the pictures seen so far - the intended design involves the rear of the jet opening out into an "X" formation for a more impressive silhouette.
In a related news story, we also have an image of the two pack in the box, which was brought to our attention by Nevermore (amongst others) but slipped through the net with all the other exciting new developments. You can see it to the left of this story. Click on the thumbnail to view the full sized version.
Derrick Wyatt also commented on the Season 3 Transformers Animated designs, leaked yesterday. He mentions that "General Strika" has been a personal goal of his, and that Spittor is based on Don Figueroa's design of a pre-beast Spittor shown in the IDW Beast Wars comics.

I wouldn't rush to judgment on the Jetfire and Jetstorm figures yet. Those are some pretty terrible pictures that are out there right now. The pictures I saw way back of the grey prototypes looked really good. And yes, of course they have hands! In both robot modes! The promo pics are just mistransformed. Once they are properly transformed and posed out, they should look pretty cool.

And more on the jet mode and the design leaks: Quote:
Hmm. It's sort of their combined mode, I guess. From the early pics I saw the rear of the combined vehicle is supposed to be split to make an "X" shape. It cuts a way better silhouette that way. And yes, the twins will be in season 3.
Ugh. I hate leaks. They always have the worst quality images. Not even any color! Oh well. Maybe you can see that Spittor's Cybertronian vehicle form is inspired by Don Figueroa's totally freaking awesome BW comic pre-beast Spittor design. And General Strika! Chalk up another personal Transformers life goal for yours truly!

Sol Fury:
I think this deserves its own thread. Nice find deliciouspeter:
Hopefully there are WINGS hidden in there somewhere.
SPLIT LIP:
Great news. The hands were the biggest issue with me.
underwear-ninja:
Show us the proper transformation, and maaaaaybe, just maybe.
PrimePower04:
does anyone no where I could find the pics of jetfire and jetstorm???
thanks
Thundershot:
Now, if only they had.... I dunno... WINGS. If they had wings, I'd probably end up buying them, even though I only get a few Animated figures.
Chris
Eric:
Well, that's dandy, but that doesn't really help much about how much of a crapfest these two figures are.
Autobot Burnout:
This is both good and unsurprising news, if the fact that promotional pics are almost always mistransformed on the box and otherwise

Digilaut:
Let's hope mr. Wyatt is right..they'll probably look alot better when transformed right (although the jet modes are still icky). Right now they're a huge turnoff..
Michael Dracon: Wings are also confirmed!
The artist of the comic confirmed that the clear parts along the front of the legs form the wings. You can actually pretty clearly see the hinge on the inner sides of the knees. Also the kneecaps move along with the wings.
Also, the blue and white wings visible in the box art on the right side are exagerated. They are the dual tiny tailfins visible on the top of the flight modes just behind the cockpit.
unicronsupreme:
good. now give us some official pics so I can start looking forward to these bad boys.
Bgrngod:
How the heck do you setup and do a photo shoot for two unreleased figures, yet you manage to mis-transform them so badly?
I'm glad they have hands, but daaaamn.
ersico:
that does help, but for the simple fact that its a redo in one package with a different face still makes them look like douches
Lucs:
Potentially bad news... for my wallet. I guess I'll wait to see if they are cool on the actual show. Can't remember if they were annouced to be season 3 or not
ShadowStitch:
They're still unappealing, even with hands.
Repaint them in Purple, White, and Grey, and I'll buy a set. Until then, no dice.
Laser_Optimus:
Well... that makes them a bit better. Still going to reserve judgement until I see some reviews by some of our early buyers...
Cungitron:
Still doesnt change the fact they look like Power Rangers. Pass.

Also, It could be that the combined vehicle mode is a bit different than the 2 ships mating:

But the colours still s*ck Soundwave84:
Wow that is a sigh of relieve i really wanted them to have hands.
TFfan08:
Packaging image has hands....i guesss Rhinox555:
Oy! Why does Johan get news credit (Niet beledigend bedoeld Johan/No offense Johan) and General Tekno doesn't? General Tekno reported this first. Johan was the third to report this.
Either way, can't wait to buy this set honestly.
Takara_destron:
This is good news.

NIDARAM12:
Hopefully they transform into different colors like Godannar, and feature removable fire and ice effects.

Either way, can't wait to buy this set honestly. | He posted the first bit about this news.
He deserves the news credit on this one - I simply reacted to his post discovering this info.
I DID however point out some of Limabean's notes on the design earlier in the original thread - he made some comments over at the Allspark on the design and how the toys were mistransformed.

I'm glad they have hands, but daaaamn. | We've been asking hasbro that for years.

These are the same pics posted over the last few days I believe: Jetfire Jetstorm If you look really closely at Jetfire's hands you can see parts on the bottom sides that appear to be thumbs or fingertips.
My other concern now is whether or not the combined form has hands instead of the hooves we see in the pic. Hopefully they do.
Personally I think they look pretty cool. I like how they combine with the half/half look. I hope they don't rock to big a backpack in this mode. The TFA style has been pretty consistent so far, and I've continued to enjoy it for being so different from past lines.

Cataclizm1:
Hopefully the combined jet mode is mistransformed too.
Joe1:
y am i not surprised?
Michael Dracon: Quote:

Also, the combined robot mode has fists.
Both of these are confirmed by people who have seen the original toy prototypes. Just look around the net for the answers.
kllrwlf:
I need pictures! CryoPrime:
Yeah, I could beal with the internal hands things, but good to know they are mistransformed. They still have no wings though?! Jets without wings? lol what's up with that?
fosterlager:
Bomb-Burst and Bugly had more convincing jet modes.
MetroBoy:
Why don't Hasbro's design team ever take the pics? Seems like Hasbro's marketing department couldn't follow directions to turn a door nob even if provided with stick figure, step by step instructions. Oye.

Oye. | Maybe they can't do it because of the whole "it's his job to do it, so he has to do it" restriction.
I'll bet this frustrates the Transformers design team just as much, but they can't do anything about it because Hasbro farms out photography.

General Magnus:
Sweet. I´m kind of reliefed delta7890:
I'll reserve my judgment based on how properly transformed images look.

Heck, even at Target I'm not allowed to fix any of the equipment if it goes down (and having fiddled with some of our stuff long enough I can) and I have to wait for the maintenance guy (who works like four different stores so he's not there everyday) to get around to it.
So, yeah, the design team probably can't do it, because it's 'not their job' etc.
Ravenxl7:
Not surprising to me. It's definitely not the first time we've seen stock photos of TF's transformed incorrectly. It's kinda sad, imo, how emotional the fan base got seeing the very first pictures of these guys.
superquad7:
But . . . but . . . I thought Hasbro hates the fandom? /sarcasm
