I was just talking with the owner of Digital-Toys.com and I now have one on reserve so my worrying is over.
CrypticIllusionist:
This really is just beautiful. And to think, before this I had virtually no interest in the Classics Voyager Prime mold.

Yeah, those dumbasses, all they know how to do is make and market cool toys!

If the price isn't silly, I might get this. Looks very cool.

A few Hundred of these...NOW, had this been designed with the original release of the Classic Ultra-Magnus I think it's a Safe bet, Target wouldn't have been able to keep them in stock.

Hasbro has said, time and time again, that the costs of releasing trailers for Optimus and Magnus are no long budget effective. The rising costs of plastics are not helping things. If you don't like it, write an effective and proactive letter to their customer service department POLITELY requesting that they reconsider the stance. Also, you could always bring it up in a Botcon pannel if you can get into one.
nkelsch:
Hasbro knows trailers and battle suits have a *TINY* audience... roughly the audience of people who want this set. Which is small and insignificant and a waste of: Time, Money, Figure Designing resources. Would you want a Prime trailer for Animated if it meant no starscream? If the time and plastic can be made into a more popular, single sale item, it will be.

And when production run goes down, cost goes up, which decreases demand.

Still waiting for price on this. I think it will be more expensive than people think and all these potential customers will then go "poo-poo".

I have to agree with you there. I think we're looking at the $100 mark. The cliffjumper kit was oroginall supposed to be 30, that went up to 90 from them. The Coronation set was orignally supposed to be 12-15, and they are going for 25ish? If I recall correctly, the original ballpark cost for the CC set was going to be 40-60. Add actual costs, profit mark up, and a fee from the retailers that will stock this item, and we're looking at a decent chunk of change for the majority of us.

Regardless, I really would like this set, and hope we get a good price from some of the retailers out there.
Laser_Optimus:
Don't really care what the price is... I'll pay around $100 to $200 for this. Small production run stuff like this 'garage kit' that are well done are going to cost a decent amount... it always does. Usually I'm not interested in non-official product, but I would definently be willing to shell out up to $200 for this... perhaps more, but definently $200ish.

Though, I honestly think Lupis Convoy's estimations are in the right ballpark for this item... about $100 to $150. Hopefully BBTS gets a preorder up for this item so I can slap down my debit card...

Yup, I sure will go "poo-poo". Because Runamuck is poor.
Fort Max:
Maybe I'm being simple but surely a Prime repaint with armour would sell for the same reason it did back in the 80's, namley that it had armour!
General Tekno:
I hope this set is what I deem affordable.

My recent Gurren Lagann binge has made me desperately desire any sort of combining armor/figures to be added to my collection.

Makes me wish I'd been getting stuff when Energon was out.
iluvu_superion:
this is indeed a very hot item...at the right price, it will be gobbled up!!!

There seems to be a lot of confusion about who the makers are. Their a separate group from the TFclubs in china. The TFClubs in china helped sell the Cliffjumper upgrade set for them. The makers had set the price at $30. While more foreigners contacted the club for the CJ kits, the clubs themselves decided to up the price. I found a store in town that got a few of the Cliffjumper sets in from the makers(all gone now), and they sold them at the $30 SRP set by the makers of the kit. So for Ultra Magnus, if you want to figure the price out, you have to ignore any price for Cliffjumper which wasn't $30.
Otispq:
I'd be willing to go upwards of $100 for this, as your never gonna see Hasbro do it, and I think it'll look better than the Masterpiece version, and since I don't have one of those for UM, I'm game.

Sorry, but for an Ultra Magnus like the Classics version, that doesn't wash. The trailer, if done right, is an integral part of the character. And it would probably bump him up a size class, so he would cost more. I don't understand how that wouldn't be 'cost-effective.'
Just a regular trailer, sure, I understand. I don't even care if we never see Prime with another trailer. But imo, Magnus needs his trailer to combine with. The white Primes are getting tired.
And yes, I am grateful for, and I am buying, the Animated Ultra Magnus.
MagnusPrimal:
I'll buy one of these for about $50-60. More than that is higher than I'm willing to go however.

I understand Hasbro's point of view where Prime's trailer is concerned, but I do not agree with it in relation to Ultra Magnus. As others have already pointed out, his trailer isn't merely a trailer that he drags around - it's a crucial part of what makes up the overall robot & character. Plain & simple. It's a damn shame that this character has been downgraded to nothing more than a white repaint of Prime over the years. Thankfully Animated is throwing that trend out the window.

Because Classics Magnus is not on TEEVEE or any other media. Kids DON'T KNOW he needs a trailer and DON'T KNOW what he looks like without it. Remember, The turn over in target demo, we have not had an ULTRA MAGNUS in show-form since RID. The name honestly means *NOTHING* to the target audience.

And then look at Magnus in classics... he was nothing more than a lazy repaint to extend the life of an existing mold and make a store exclusive. Having a Metal injection mold that has been used 10,000 times for Prime, it costs almost NOTHING to make a Magnus recolor in limited numbers for target. It *DOES* cost a lot of money to make a trailer/battlesuit to go with it. And since Trailers and toys with higher price points cost more and sell less EVEN IF it is an integral part of the character, they would be spending money to lose money. Which is why they took another used mld and pooped out skywarp. I Guarantee 100% that Magnus/Skywarp sold better and cost lest resources to release than Magnus + trailer would have.

Don't make me tap the sign that says "Collectors make up an insignificant portion of the population and decisions that would please collectors are often a waste of money and do not appeal to kids."

Plain & Simple...
Runamuck:
Yeah....but making a $40 toy with a trailer that snaps on is any cheaper?
razorchrist:
Easy there, nkelsch. I know it's your nature to strut around here with that dickish attitude, but save it for someone who's throwing an outight tantrum. I wasn't. I just echoed what others have said before - Ultra Magnus as most of us know him - doesn't really fit into "trailers are insignificant" category the same way that Prime does since UM's is 50% of the total character. Forget RID, forget Animated and forget these beaten to death moronic statements that "we as collectors" don't mean shit for shit to the grand scheme. I wasn't saying that we do or don't. There's 12 pages behind this post as well as dozens upon dozens of threads over the years that clearly show that there are certain expectations that come with certain characters - UM having a trailer or "armor" being one of them. Save the elitist speak for noob's who can be easily impressed by it.
DJW107PRIME:
Damn Thats tight I'll try to get this. Any chance of a CliffJumper re-release?
smkspy:
I'm just glad these are gonna be available whatever the price. Its just nice to have these secondary market sources that can produce the things that Hasbro are unwilling too for whatever reasons.

Now they should make a Classics Prime trailer that would awesome.
REDLINE:
They already are.

"Hello Mr. Kettle! I'm Mr. Pot!"

The 'UM is not a white prime' dead horse combines with the 'Hasbro doesn't know/care how to really make TF's' sailed ship.

Necrotic Equine Voyage FTL! Cliché idioms FTW!

I don't care who makes it. I want one.

that this IS going to be a limited release, not as mush as an exclusive, but still limited, so you buying 2 just so can display 1 in either mode is selfish and depriving someone else of the joy/chance/ability of being able to have 1!

So all those Optimus Prime figures from the Unicron Trilogy were poor sellers, eh?

And Classics was not aimed soley at kids. Hence the moniker 'Classics.'

Well said. I am only getting one but if I have a chance to get 2 and sell at cost it to someone in the Junkion Exchange it would make my day. But as of now only 1 will be purchased.

$100/$150 is what I think this kit will cost. And for that price (or a little higher) I'm game, because Magnus' trailer is almost a voyager-sized transformable figure in itself.

Since I most likely won't be able to afford this, I'm still waiting for the second best thing to happen - that Takara (not influenced by Hasbro's decision) will release all the seekers in the Heinkei line...

Dude! How did you go from "the prices of custom pieces" to Takara producing the Seekers in Henkei?

1) Optimus Prime sells better than Ultra Magnus.
2) Energon Prime's "trailer" was just a box. The real "engineering" was on the cab and on the limbs.
3) Pants Prime's trailer was a first-in-a-lifetime gimmick.
4) If you think Cyb Prime has a trailer, then I don't know what a trailer is.
5) Who knows how well were the sales of those? We've had Classics, several movie figures and now TFA Primes since, all of them without trailers.

Yes, Unicron Saga Primes were poor sellers. They clogged shelves, were often forced into CLEARANCE for up to 50% sale n order t get rid of the dang things. Which is why we got trailer-less versions of the primes in Armada and Energon.

And while Classics was not aimed SOLELY at kids, they needed KIDS to buy a majority of the figures in order to make them viable of a retail release. Why make a trailer when you could spend the time and effort on designing another deluxe figure? Especially a Trailer for a repaint.

We are getting a trailer through this kit, what's the problem? It is a collectors item for the collector market. But I know what is coming, if people who feel they are entitled to own this figure feel the price is too high, they will come up with reasons why Hasbro "shudda" released it at retail. I hope this kit doesn't turn into Botcon seekers all over again.

they will...its always hasbro's fault that they didnt listen to this person, or that person...and hasbro is the devil, and takara really listens to fans and blahblahblah... true fans will never run out of things to bitch about, while the rest of us will enjoy what we get...and be glad transformers isnt dead...

BBTS is probably the safest option at this point unless a dedicated UK seller can get them, which dosn't seem to be happening.
