 | | | | | | | Austrailian Transformers Animated Promo with Hasbro Designer Eric Siebenaler | | Posted on 11-10-2008 at 02:14 PM by XJunky | Ozformers Transformers Collectors Australia has posted some details on a Transformers Animated Promotional event that took place in Australia this past weekend.
The event centered around a contest held by Australia's Cartoon Network. Australian News site "The Warrnambool Standard" posted an article on one of the winners here. Kids under 15 were able to submit robot designs using parts from the Transformers Animated cast. 5 winners were chosen to win a prize pack and also got to meet designer Eric Siebenaler.
Along with doing a meet and greet, and doing some drawings for the winners, Eric was kind enough to share the following information with members from Ozformers:
Animated:
A new, smaller Animated Bumblebee mold is in the works. It is intended to be more in scale to other figures, and will come with a larger accessory.
A new Voyager Bulkhead repaint is being done. It will not be a new character, following in line with Animated repaints like Rescue Ratchet and Elite Guard Bumblebee. Hasbro will be doing more repaints without making them into new characters.
The Jetstorm/Jetfire toy concept was one he has had in mind for several years. It finally came to pass in Animated.
There has been some planning for a Fourth season of the series.
Arcee will be a new Deluxe class mold, and won't be entirely pink.
Animated Swoop's weapon was designed to have the flame spikes extend when pulling on the chain, but it did not pass safety tests.
Transformers, ROTF:
No Activators or Unleashed.
Eric is working on 2 of the size classes for this line, Voyager and Scout class.
You can read some more on Eric's comments, and about the event here.

Safety concerns? Really? wow.
Ktulu:
Is he lolling at an Armada Laserbeak there? Fantastic.
Some decent tidbits there, but the repaint news is a little bleh, regardless of being fairly expected. Don't have to buy em and all that jazz.
Takara_destron:
The new BB sounds interesting.
Darth Rodimus:
I wonder if Hasbro finally answered our prayers for a Cybertron mode Bumblebee. Scout class for film...better not be repaints again!
Dinobot Snarl:
Please put his battle mask on !!!!! PLEASE

| Well, since Eric is working on DESIGNING them, I'd say not.
Silent_Magnus:
Hopefully it'll be a cybertron mode bumblebee.
If not I'll still be happy, if a bit disappointed.
Although, I'm not sure what to do with the Bumblebee I already have though.
Maybe I'll use him to represent animated on my "Misc. Transformers" shelf.
Jarodimus:
Siebenaler goodness -- yay!
I'll echo the wishes for Cybertronian BB.
Glad Arcee is confirmed as making to the mold stage! Quote:
Originally Posted by Beastbot X Well, since Eric is working on DESIGNING them, I'd say not. | To play devil's advocate, it just says he's working on the size classes, not designing molds. And new color scheme work for old molds would still be "design" work.
Having said that, I'm relatively sure it was said somewhere that there would be new Scout molds for Transformers: Rolling on the Floor.
DieMaus:
There's a whole bunch of really interesting stuff in there - Siebenaler sounds like a great guy - but the bit that intrigues me the most is this: "Told us why we haven't seen any Animated Constructicon toys yet, but I can't say why here at this time."
So there's something about the Constructicons that Hasbro doesn't want us to know yet? Hmm, interesting. Wonder what that could be. Incepticon: Quote: |

| Wow, an entirely new mold being designed specifically so that it will be more in scale with the other figures. Maybe that news will finally mute some of the peanut gallery who are so dead against the idea of a certain Decepticon character eventually getting a Leader class figure since, as it appears from an official source, maintaining relative (note: didn't say exact) scale is in fact something they're aware of and are trying to accomplish with Animated.
Twin Twist:
*Swoons*
Also; new BB mold? SOLD! Jarodimus: Quote:

EDIT: Yep, and the OzFormers post mentions that fact.

cool a new Bumblebee!
hope they don't muck up arcee

A new $10 version of the main kid-appeal character is FAR less risky than a new $40 toy of the occasionally-appearing bad-guy bruiser character.
Silent_Magnus:
Anyone else misread the post at first and think they were making a smaller Bulkhead?
edit:
oooooooo, just read this. Quote: | "- He prefers the creative freedom of doing new characters over homage characters. And says that he's just about done about all the major Gen1 character homage toys for Animated, as more of the focus will be on new characters now (after next year)." | This excites me in more ways than one.

Sounds cool to me, though I'm happy with the Activators Bumblebee I've got. It's not all that surprising that we'll see more repaints that aren't new characters. Just means there's less of a chance that I'll buy them, so a bit of a win there. Would be nice to see a mostly black repaint of Blitzwing at some point Fosterlager:
I'll give the Bumblebee a look, but it's going to depend on what's included with him. I can't think of in-show accessories other than his boosters. A Sari pack-in would be ideal.
shroobmaster:
More original characters?
Oh god YES!

Let me guess switching logos?
I don't expect any mergers since it was stated at botcon that they where not intend to merge.
Laughing Man:
Pop out flames for Swoop? I thought so. I went at that little ball and chain pretty hard cause it looked like there were little popout flames in there.

I am extremely curious to see the new smaller Bumblebee toy, As I do like the idea of an in-scale toy. Wonder if it will be the Cybertronian-form BB as others speculate (would be logical to do so, but logic only goes so far with TF toys.) Now I've got this vision of a progressive line of taller toys going from Legend to Activator to Bumper Battler to small Deluxe to large Deluxe to something larger, like the Cyber Stomper.
Icespark:
So much to comment on. The movie news sounds fun. I'll enjoy seeing new Basic figures. I haven't really been interested in the Activators, so, it'll be nice to have some smaller scale characters mixed in this time around. I'm also somewhat happy to hear there won't be any Unleashed statues this time around. Hopefully, it mean that the money allotted to them can now be put to use towards more of the mainline figures.
Next, a new Bumblebee figure, made to be in scale, is very surprising, and very happy news indeed. I like seeing the toys in scale with each other, as rare as that is, and I'll definitely be purchasing him. This also means that Leader Bulkhead can now be placed along side most of the others without something seeming off.
Speaking of Bulkhead, I wonder what his repaint will be. I was surprised by Atomic Lugnut, maybe Bulkhead will also be done in silver?
I'm thrilled to hear that Arcee will actually be made! As a car, and as a brand new mold! I'll have to watch out for the pre-orders! Seeing as the other site stated that her robot mode looks exactly like like the cartoon, I wonder if her paint job will differ? Still, I've been looking forward to a toy of her, and I'm really happy to hear this news. I wonder what the planned release date is.
I'm also curious about the Constructicons; next year should supply plenty of them, if their toys really weren't cancelled like the Hasbro Quesitons and Answers report stated, and if all the movie rumors prove true.
I never knew he desgined Armada Lazerbeak, and I'm also surprised to hear the toy was unpopular. I always liked it.
I'll be looking forward to Jetfire and Jetstorm. it looks to be a fun set!
I'm also happy to hear that a fourth season is in the works. Hopefully it means that the other rumored designs also have a higher chance of getting toys.
It's a pity about Swoop's weapon. However, considering exactly how scary the potential was: Quote: |
Originally Posted by Griffen if swallowed, it could get lodged in a kid's throat, and pulling the chain to remove the toy would hook it in even more. | Hasbro made the right choice.
I really can't wait to see everything that Hasbro has planned! If anything, next year's Botcon will be incredible!
Edit--I just noticed the part about the major G1 homages being completed, and the part about new characters. According to the notes I wrote down at Botcon, it was stated Season 3 would be focusing on guest appearances by G1 characters and introducing brand new ones. Season 4 was only a possiblity. Could it be possible, seeing as each season only has 13 episodes, that the plans to introduce new characters were pushed back to Season 4?
shroobmaster:
I wonder how they do Swallowing tests.
Robotic children?
Backscatter:
New BB sounds good. I wish though Hasbro would give some of the Animated repaints new names.

Robotic children? | From what I remember hearing, the pieces to be tested are inserted into a small plastic tube that approximately has the same dimensions as the throat of a four-year-old. If the piece obstructs the tube, and cannot be easily removed, it fails the test. I hope this helps. Incepticon: Quote:

Originally Posted by Feralstorm Maybe, but Lugnut ain't Bumblebee. | Oh believe me, I *totally* understand why Bumblebee would get special treatment considering his popularity, fan favorite status, 'cuteness', etc. The thing that caught my interest, however, was the reason they're doing it: to have a more accurately scaled version in circulation. Considering the current Deluxe version at a higher price point is already a guaranteed great seller that never seems to stay in stock for too long, it's doubtful (imo) that they're doing it if they didn't also have collectors at least somewhat in mind. It merely gives me hope of what else they might do with other characters & size classes. Nothing more - nothing less
Beyond that, I'm not saying anything about the 'he who shall not be named' Decepticon since I don't want to see the usual know-it-all's take down another thread with all of their personal opinions being stated as supposed fact of why it won't/can't/shouldn't ever happen.

I knew it!
Nachtsider:
You'd be surprised, how many kids dislike Animated Bumblebee's character.
I'm curious about the Constructicons thing, myself. Maybe (just MAYBE) they're planning for more Constructicons and a combined mode.
Silent_Magnus:
Or maybe the Animated Constructicons are going to crossover into the movie universe!
UTK007:
Cannot wait to see that Arcee. I'm so excited!
Shin Densetsu:
I think Bumblebee is an earth mode version, smaller than a deluxe, but with an accessory that can fit with it in deluxe packaging. I am interested, I wonder which voyagers Siebenaler is working on, I am impressed by his previous TFs, so I look forward to what he does with the voyagers.
Soundwave84:
good news all around i really excited about a possible Arcee figure!

Shin Densetsu:
Random speculation on my part, but what if one of the G1 homage characters is Skyfire? Don't know if Hasbro has rights to that name, but since one of the Jet twins in Animated is Jetfire, Skyfire could be the animated G1 homage that most Jet/Skyfire fans want. *head explodes*

Still, that does raise the question: when WILL we see Animated Constructicon toys? It would seem a major oversight not to release toys for two such prominent characters, but if the second movie line has anything like the longevity of the first, we might well into 2010 before the way is cleared for another line to use the Constructicon name.
