Thanks to TFW2005 Animated enthusiast Peaugh for the first images of Transformers Animated Grimlock in package with "snapping jaws". Click the thumbnail to see images of the front and back of the box. Note his sword has a "Removable jet of fire breath".

Interesting that the back of the package refers to his sword as "Removable jet of fire breath!!"

How is that even possible? It would explain why they opted not to color in the top of the sword, while the prototype shown last summer had it colored to match the rest of the sword, but the sword is one solid piece, isn't it?

Yeah, not sure how it's supposed to work.

One thing I've noticed about the toy and the animation model - the toy is missing a lot of black, like panel lines. Easy fix.

Does anybody have a pic of the sword in his mouth?

That's as far in as it goes, unless there's some magical way of doing it listed in the instructions that I'm just not figuring out. It doesn't tab or lock in either, so the slightest bump sends it tumbling out of his mouth onto the floor.

Interesting box... and interesting what they refer to the sword as... especially sense by all accounts it doesn't really go in to his mouth properly or anything.

Wonder if there's a way to seperate the blade from the hilt/handle? Doubt it though. Perhaps the instructions will tell the tale...

Nope. There's not even any way it COULD and still have the automoprh feature, so I doubt it's something that my early version is missing.

I mean, it looks cool, but that appears to be the only way to make it stay because Im busting my brain trying to find another way, Peaugh. if you find another way let me know because I cant seem to make it stay any other way

Im curious now, there has to be another way, that just looks unconventianal. But you cant remove the blade or seperate it in any way, so I guess this is the fire breath mode.

Your sword isnt working either, I guess yours has the same flaw as mine but with a tiny piece of tissue it works.

I don't know why, but my brain is telling me the sword should be tipped in the mouth so that it sits the other direction. Does that little orange tab on the sword fit into the roof of the mouth somehow maybe?

Either way, Grimlock is looking more and more badass every time I see him. And I'm trying so hard not to want him.

Yeah, I thought that too, but even in the lower jaw, which has more room, that tab doesn't fit all the way in the mouth to rotate the sword at all. The only other way it fits than how I have it pictured is to flip it over to the tab is on the other side. Believe me, I've tried. Unless there's a magic word I'm forgetting to say that completely re-engineers the sword or the mouth, that's all you get with the "flame breath" gimmick.

Oh, my sword works just fine, I was just saying that it doesn't lock into the mouth at all. The flames pop out when you put it in his hand just fine on mine.

Cool. I was hoping we would get to see him in-package soon. He's one of the Animated figures that I'm looking forward to the most. Too bad he won't be released untill wave 3, though it is nice to know he'll be released this year.

Took some pics of the flame sitting the other way. It took some doing to get it in there, but here ya go:



Not great, but not horrible, until you look at the top of his head:



The force needed to wedge it in there vertically starts to split his head along the seam. No worries, it's not broken at all, but I'm not going to be doing it again unless there's some magic way I'm not noticing. After some fiddling, it looks like, with the tab down and some fiddling to get it between his lower teeth, you can have him hold it without the head gapping:






It's not the most elegant way, but I'm pretty sure that's as good as it's going to get.

It wouldn't fit through the mouth. If you wanted a gout of flame erupting from his chest, though....

Grimlock could then be the only TF (that I know of any ways) with "flaming heart burn action" as a gimmick.
