Classics grimlock is the only g1 based figure i'm skipping and won't buy.
If he is as big as MP starscream then that about makes him the same size as an Ultra Classics figure, which for me works perfect for grimlock. In the cartoon he was often portrayed as bigger than Op. So i think he may end up my perfect grimlock if that does pan out
My only problem is the price, i'm waiting to see how much the hasbro version is. | Yeah, except there may very well be NO Hasbro version...
Draven:
Grimlock should be big. Masterpiece figures aren't designed to be displayed "in scale" with other lines. I already have a Classics Grimlock, thankyouverymuch. I won't pay a ridiculous price just to get another one that's a bit more detailed.
If I'm going to pay that much for a figure, it has to feel worth it. MP Screamer scraped past on the size of his alt mode and his complexity. However Grimlock can't really be made too much more complex than he already is, and keep the same transformation. So for me it has to come down to size, metal content, and detail. I couldn't care less about a serving tray, or twatty little cutesy cartoon crap like that. I want a big, highly detailed MASTERPIECE Grimlock. You know; the Grimlock toy to end all Grimlock toys, so to speak.
Masterpiece. NOT Minipiece.
Twin Twist:
Is he as tall as Screamer in Dino mode or bot mode?

See I'm liking Classics Grimmy, except for his size that is. Animated Grimlock size would've been much more preferable for me but alas, my Classics/Universe display looked destined to have a mini Grim forever in it's ranks.
But no longer, Masterpiece Grimlock will be the perfect size to fit in with my Classics/Universe bots if he is indeed MP Starscream sized...then I can die a happy man! Ravenxl7: Quote:

Not only is he one of the more favored characters to us fans, but he turns into a T-rex, and last I knew dinosaurs are still really big with the kids. Not saying that we are guaranteed to be getting a version of him over here, just that there's a very good chance of it happening. Question is, when and how will they bring him over. I honestly just hope that if they make him a store exclusive, that he's NOT a Walmart exclusive. A Target exclusive would be much more preferred, imo.

Grimlock looks awesome, but I'm going to be very pissed if he is only the size of Starscream.

Masterpiece. NOT Minipiece. | 100% agreed lord ginrai:
I think Grimlock is a way more popular character in the west than he has ever been in Japan. I don't think TakaraTomy would invest in creating this figure if Hasbro wasn't in on it.
That, coupled with what Robogeek28 said about Aaron Archer, makes me think he'll definately see a stateside release.
Robogeek28:
I really can't believe all the hate this is getting now. I CAN'T have been the only one that expected a smaller MP figure after seeing Alternity being smaller yet basically the same price.

Masterpiece. NOT Minipiece. | That's right. Also, Grimlock has always been a massive robot, so you'd think that would be somewhat reflected in his ultimate masterpiece incarnation. To have him roughly Alternator-sized is a big mistake.

Do people here really think with the cost of all raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, etc. going up that Takara/Hasbro could produce a MP Grimlock that's bigger and bulkier than Prime for 100-150 dollars US? The Alternity line is a great example of the scale back in size we can expect become more and more prevalent as the world's economy shrinks. It’s going to happen everywhere from a gallon of ice cream to the car in the driveway to transformers: less for the same price or, in some cases, more.
And couple of other thoughts.
First, how can people possibly compare MP Grimlock to Classics Grimlock? Jeez, even if he’s expensive and you’re pissed that he’s not to scale, don’t drag him down by comparing him to that awful foot/mouth Grimlock from the classics line. Even a smallish MP Grimlock doesn’t deserve that.
Secondly, I’m going to reserve judgment on this until we actually have photos in hand of the final production piece and side-by-side comparisons with the other MP line. Then, and only then, will I make the final call on him.

Even a smallish MP Grimlock doesn’t deserve that. | I may have missed some posts, but I don't remember anybody comparing MP Grimlock to Classics Grimlock. While I do like Cl. Grim, I can honestly say that MP Grim looks a lot better. I think most of the people bringing up Classics Grimlock are basically saying that MP Grimlock, if indeed the size of MP Starscream in bot-mode, will make for a great replacement for the current Cl. Grim. Though like I said, I haven't read everybody's post on this, so I could have missed someone comparing the two to each other.

^It's all over the past couple of pages. Seems like alot of people are panicking b/c their toy shelves aren't gonna match anymore Anguish:
(First post!)
My take on the Masterpiece series is this: these are the toys you would've killed to have as a kid.
MP-1 Prime, I had to purchase or the inner child would have murdered me in my sleep.
MP-3 gave me a geek-gasm when I saw the diagrams on the transform. Accuracy to cartoons or previous TF lore isn't key to me. MP-3 Starscream is just an incredible toy, almost without peer.
MP-5 just doesn't tickle my fancy. So be it. I don't own one.
MP-8 Grimlock may or may not be a damned cool toy or it could be a total re-hash of the original. It's too soon to tell. But I'll judge him on what he is, not what he could've/should've been. Even if he does turn out to be green and black. <Grin>
Sledgehammer:
Don't mind Grimlock's scale...in fact, he should fit right in with BT Tracks, Hound and Jazz... Devastattor: Quote:

Though like I said, I haven't read everybody's post on this, so I could have missed someone comparing the two to each other. | Not really a direct, side-by-side comparison but the fact that some people are saying I already have the G1 thing covered by having Classics Grimlock in lieu of MP. Deluxe Classics GL is small, the bot mode is still just plain strange, and he's really small. If people don't want to get the MP due to his size and price, I understand that. I just miss the logic of saying no to MP because of the Classics version. IMO, they couldn't be more different in every way (but name).
Bottom line here-I think the production photos are going to sway a lot of people back to the want category despite him possibly being smaller. And I'll believe the size thing when I see the photos.
Soundwave2:
Anybody have a pic of MP Convoy & G1 Trypticon? Wouldn't that be a good size for him?

That, coupled with what Robogeek28 said about Aaron Archer, makes me think he'll definately see a stateside release. | Well, just this year when asked about new Masterpiece figures at Botcon's day 3 Hasbro toy panel, Aaron Archer said they were aware that Takara was making new masterpiece figures (in fact Takara confirmed this to the public the same day), but had no current plans for their own release.
And considering Hasbro didn't even know which ones were in the planning/production stages, I seriously doubt that Hasbro and Takaratomy were in collusion on Grimlock.
And where exactly is everybody getting their info on the popularity of specific characters in Japan? Sounds like it comes from the rumormill, IMO.
