Masterpiece Prowl and Sunstorm First Release @ SDCC 2014

Posted on 07-17-2014 at 07:15 PM by Tony_Bacala under Conventions
masterpiece-prowl Toys R Us sent out a press release earlier today with a full listing of their 2014 SDCC offerings. Newly added to that list and relevant to our TFW2005 readers - Hasbro's Masterpiece Prowl and Masterpiece Sunstorm will be making a "First Appearance" in San Diego via TRU, who is partnering with Entertainment Earth. TRU will be selling their goods through the EE booth.

Check out the abridged press release below!
Building on its tradition of offering an unbeatable assortment of toys for collectors of all ages, Toys“R”Us has revealed its full lineup of exclusive items available at the highly anticipated Comic-Con International in San Diego taking place Thursday, July 24 through Sunday, July 27. Conventioneers will find must-have merchandise based on fan-favorite series, including My Little Pony, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, TRANSFORMERS and more at the Entertainment Earth booth (#2343).

Toys“R”Us will also provide convention goers the opportunity to be among the first to purchase exclusive merchandise not yet available in stores, such as MINECRAFT Creeper Anatomy, MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS ZECORA and TRANSFORMERS Masterpiece Prowl, among others. These first look items will become available in Toys“R”Us stores nationwide later this year.

Fans unable to journey to San Diego this year will also have the opportunity to purchase select items online at beginning at 10am EST on Thursday, July 24. All merchandise is available while supplies last, so fans should visit Entertainment Earth at booth #2343 or early to make purchases.

Toys“R”Us First-Look Items Coming Soon to Its Stores Nationwide:

TRANSFORMERS Masterpiece Prowl from Hasbro®

Prowl is a clear thinker who is able to see beyond the chaos of battle and discover the rational route to victory. His logic center is the most sophisticated in the Autobot army, capable of analyzing complex combat situations and making strategic decisions almost instantaneously. Unexpected events have been known to briefly scramble his circuits, but there isn’t much this Autobot doesn’t see coming. As much as his fellow Autobots would like to see Prowl loosen up and crack a joke once in a while, they recognize that what makes him so brilliant on the battlefield is what makes him so disciplined off it. Conventioneers can take home this sneak peak item for $70.

TRANSFORMERS Masterpiece Sunstorm from Hasbro®

Fly too close to the sun and get burned. Get too close to Sunstorm, and get dissolved into a puddle of liquid scrap. Autobots beware, because this ultimate Decepticon flier is on the hunt for someone to fight. He converts from robot mode to fighter jet mode, and in either mode he’s armed for major combat. His canopy and nose cone open in jet mode, and his hidden missile pods deploy when he gets an Autobot in his sights. And, don’t forget to set him on his stand when the fight is over for the day. Fans can get this high-flying Decepticon with incredible battle features for $80.

All Toys“R”Us exclusive items are limited editions and will be available on a first-come, first served basis, while supplies last.

New Official Images Of Platinum Edition Silver Knight Optimus Prime

Posted on 07-16-2014 at 11:10 PM by Shin Densetsu under Transformers Movie Toys & Products (All Transformers Movie News)
27453636d1405567182-new-images-platinium-edition-silver-knight-optimus-prime-image Megatronus 209 has spotted new, official images of Platinum Edition Silver Knight Optimus Prime on Facebook and has shared them here. The content has become unavailable so we are not entirely sure who the source is.

Unlike previous stock images of this Platinum Silver Optimus, these new images show chrome and metallic silver paint. The images also have Hasbro's typical "digitally airbrushed to hell" look so we aren't entirely sure if this is indicative of the final product(with regards to chrome and metallic silver paint). If you've seen the 1st edition Optimus, think of the chrome from that, carried over to this but with red flames on the chest.

Read on to check out the images.

Transformers: Age of Extinction Toyline Underperforming?

Posted on 07-16-2014 at 03:40 PM by Mechafire under Transformers Movie Toys & Products (All Transformers Movie News)
4039720150569047F52BE572DD872B3E_1397322518 As had been reported a short while back, it seemed that the Transformers: Age of Extinction toyline was off to a somewhat rocky start. And now, we have even more evidence to back that up. Disney Pixar Cars website TakeFiveADay has posted an interesting article examining the current state of movie toylines and toylines in general, of course focusing a lot on the current AOE line. Unfortunately, despite the movie itself performing well, it seems the toyline isn't, and it doesn't sound like the outlook is positive either. From the article:

"The #1 licensed toy line in America usually generates about $400-$500 million in sales a year. [...] At the rate the toys are selling, Transformers might still crack $225 million which is a lot but when you create inventory to sell $500 million dollars worth of toys? That’s not so good"

It should be noted that this isn't just related to Transformers; toyline sales in general have been on the decline for a while now. This could potentially be bad news for not just Transformers fans, but fans of toys in general. The reasons for the decline in sales are numerous, and you can read them and discuss after the jump.

Age of Extinction Kre-O Microchangers Wave 2 Blindpacks feature no serial number

Posted on 07-16-2014 at 02:22 PM by Sol Fury under Kre-O
10494768_863602783668014_7957705562709004320_n It's bad news for Kre-O fans - the second Age of Extinction Kre-O Microchnagers assortment (which is series six or seven overall depending on how you count the preview wave) are reported to not feature serial numbers stamped on the packages to help identify the contents. For those picking these up in stores this is a bit of a blow - the serial numbers were a great shortcut to identifying the figures in the bags to collect a whole set. This news comes to you via the Hobbybase Facebook page.

How Hasbro Decides Which Toys They Will Turn Into Movies

Posted on 07-16-2014 at 09:33 AM by SilverOptimus under Transformers Movie (Just Movie) (All Transformers Movie News)
hasbro-toys Business Insider has posted an interesting article explaining how Hasbro decides which toys it will turn into movies and the profit they get in return.

With several more brands set to get the movie treatment in the next few years, we spoke with Hasbro Chief Marketing Officer John Frascotti to find out exactly how the company selects which of its toy lines get adapted to the big screen and how you can possibly turn a board game into a movie.

"We look for those brands that have story and character at their foundation because inevitably for any type of storytelling format, whether it's a movie, a television show, a digital comic ... it has to have great story and great characters at it's foundation," says Frascotti.

All together, the "Transformers" franchise has brought in more than $2.5 billion worldwide. The two "G.I. Joe" movies combined have generated more than $600 million at the box office.

According to Reuters, it's low risk strategy for Hasbro. The toy company pays around $1 million to develop script ideas and if a studio wants to go through with a film, Hasbro gets paid back the developing fee. After the film is in theaters, Hasbro reportedly receives 5% of the money a studio makes from theaters.

The article also states that following the success of the Transformers and other Hasbro brand movies, movies based on Jem And The Holograms, Magic the Gathering and Ouija are on their way to the Big Screen. You can read more at the Business Insider.
