 | | | HasbroToyShop.com Finally Ships to Canada | | Posted on 07-07-2009 at 11:03 AM by TM2 D-bot | TFW sister site Cybertron.ca is reporting that Hasbrotoyshop is now shipping to Canada! Not everything on the site is available for Canada, and shipping is still expensive but at least it's a start.

YYYYYESSS! It is about time!
Digilaut:
That's great news for our Canadian friends! Fosterlager:
Now Super_Megatron can stop harassing me for SDCC exclusives every July! Banshee:
Awesome news! Paradigm-Shift Prime:
Unfortunately it's set up so it's absolutely useless. Shipping starts at $30, they charge 'tax' even though we're not in the US, various items 'don't ship to Canada', etc.
So not good news at all.
SPLIT LIP:
HAHAHA! My day has come!

So not good news at all. | Not accounting for the "various items," this news means that people now have direct access to items they didn't previously have access to. If you can get these items from third parties for cheaper overall, than perhaps this isn't good for you, but I'm guessing that even with that $30 shipping and tax, this will still be a better option for a lot of folks unless the third parties are actually taking a loss on their own costs (In my experience, shipping to Canada, let alone another country, is EXPENSIVE).
Fort Max:
Good news, Europe next please since ours got shut down an all.

It's a $40+ base charge on top of the actual cost from HTS, and you can buy from many sellers using USPS First Class Int for around $10 base charge from the US or $8-25 from an Asian seller. And on top of that, the HTS shipments are far more likely to get nailed for customs fees at the border, which would be another $10-50.
So yeah, totally useless.

So yeah, totally useless. | You forgot to mention that those of us without Credit Cards can't use Money Orders and HTS won't accept Paypal without a US Address. Stupid morons. Alexander Quinn: Quote:

Good god. $30! I'm not shipping it to the middle of the Sahara. I'm only 2 freakin' hours from the border. I could pay someone to walk the damn package here for less money. I hate this crap between the US and Canada - act all friendly and nice and then tax the f*** outta ya whenever you cross their imaginary line. Good neighbors my ass...

Let me know when they start shipping to APO's. They're California and New York zip codes for god's sake! They're just too "busy" (lazy) to fill out the customs forms required to ship to the troops overseas.

UTF:
Way to show how you really feel about your Canadian customers Hasbro.

What tax rate are they charging? That seems extra shady.

lol this is actually good news for vangelus, no more "hasbro doesnt ship to canada" for him on the podcast. happy purchasing vangelus
jourdo:
I was excited by this news until I checked out the site for myself. I added a single GI Joe figure to my cart and went through the check out. I aborted when the shipping charges came to over $30 US. Thanks but no thanks Hasbro.
lars573:
The current theory is that Hasbro is using a shipping company like UPS or Fedex to ship to Canada. And the $30 is their flat fee for service from the US to Canada. So a bigger order would be a better deal shipping wise.
Fosterlager:
Good, actually. When HTS gets someone like ROTF Bludgeon or the new Animated toys, it'll be nice to have less competition for limited stock. Mospeada:
My question is, why didn't they ship to Canada in the first place?

Originally Posted by Mospeada My question is, why didn't they ship to Canada in the first place? | That's a no-brainer, given the customs forms themselves take up time (and therefore, money in terms of staff filling them out), let alone setting up a system to acknowledge the shipping rates to a completely different country than the country of origin.
I'm glad that they're going to the trouble of shipping to Canada, and while I would argue that they should continue to do some more work (find a carrier that would allow them to charge lower rates, especially for small items), they need to know that it's going to be profitable in the long run to do so. It's not obvious (especially so early in the attempt) that shipping to Canada will be worth the cost.
