Takara-Tomy Legends Swerve, Tailgate and Brainstorm Decos Teased

Posted on 09-18-2014 at 05:06 PM by Sol Fury under Japanese Transformers
thumb_lg09 Takara-Tomy have begun to update their website to show off the next few releases in their Transformers Legends line. Swarp aka Swerve, Tailgate and Brainstorm now have thumbnail images on the release listing for the line, although there's no full images in the Takara-Tomy product catalog - yet.

What we can see from the images are that Swerve and Tailgate both feature some darker colors compared to their US releases - Swerve has a darker maroon closer to his original tone, and Tailgate's teal is also darker. His chest has some silver on it, and there's an Autobot symbol on the torso.

Brainstorm meanwhile has a much more detailed deco - lots more painted details on the torso including some silver on the torso and red and silver on the chest wings.

Keep it TFW for more news as it emerges - we expect Takara-Tomy will release full images of these three fairly soon.

Transformers Cloud Roadbuster and Hellwarp New Image

Posted on 09-18-2014 at 09:08 AM by StayingInTheBox under Japanese Transformers
bnr_tfcloud140918 Hat tip to TFW2005 boards member PoweredConvoy for linking us to a new promo image for the newest Transformers Cloud figures: Roadbuster and Hellwarp. The promo image found on the TakaraTomy Mall's home page not only gives us another look at the Takara exclusive repaints, but also provides a preorder window of September 24 - November 4, 2014. As with past releases, several of TFW's sponsors may also carry these figures.

As a reminder of who these characters are and what their paint schemes represent, Roadbuster is a Transformers Energon Ironhide themed repaint. He'll be the fourth release of TakaraTomy Mall exclusives.

Hellwarp is a little more obscure, but TFW's very own Sol Fury provides a great summary of who Hellwarp is: Hellwarp is a completely new, non-homage character, there was a Hellscream in 1998's Beast Wars Second, who was a remold of Cybershark to represent an evolved version of that show's Starscream. Hellwarp is a similar concept - a recolored version of Generations Skybyte to represent a cyborg shark evolution of skywarp. To top it off, the mohawk head that using the Skybyte mold gives Skywarp just might be a reference to Transformers Armada Skywarp, who also had a fin on his head. Hellwarp is the E-Hobby exclusive of the fourth set of Cloud releases.

Check it out after the jump and discuss away!

hub Deadline is reporting that The Hub, a joint venture with Discovery Networks and Hasbro, is no more. The channel will be re-branded in "Discovery: XYZ" fashion, most likely Discovery Family. They will also be taking a larger stake of the channel by acquiring Hasbro shares. Hasbro will retain some interest and continue to provide programming from 9 AM - 3 PM, so we should still see Transformers and other programming on the station. Whether or not they will also get prime time slots for first run episodes, not mentioned here. Check the full details over at Deadline and discuss on the forums!

Transformers at 30 - Anniversary of the premiere of the first episode!

Posted on 09-17-2014 at 11:00 AM by Sol Fury under Generation 1
05transformers On this day in Transformers history – September 17, 1984 was the date of the premiere of the very first Transformers cartoon. More than Meets the Eye part 1 brought to TV screens the saga of the Transformers – journeying from planet Cybertron to Earth in search of precious energy sources to rejuvenate their world.

In the 30 years that have passed in between, we’ve had over 720 episodes of Transformers. Those 720 episodes have spanned no less than 17 different cartoon shows, each with its own unique premise, but all tracing themselves back to the great pedigree set down by the first ever episode of Transformers, which aired this day in 1984.

As a fan who was around in 1984, I can remember watching the original trilogy of More than Meets the Eye cartoon episodes on a VHS tape called “Arrival from Cybertron”. More than Meets the Eye / Arrival for Cybertron opened up for me this whole fantastical world of transforming alien robots – leaving their home which was critically low on energy and crashlanding on our own four million years ago, only to awaken in a volcanic tremor and resume their war on Earth.

The premiere trilogy wasted no time in cutting straight to the action, and quickly established the roster of personalities. It was a very good, strong start for the show that did an excellent job of world-building and setting out who was who - and of course, it was followed by an excellent first season that built off the strong foundation.

On this day, we celebrate the first Transformers cartoon, and the rich legacy that it led to – because there can be little doubt that without such a strong cartoon to back it up, the Transformers may not have gained the momentum it did to break through and become the phenomenon that it is today.

On an aside, you might be amused to know that the very first Transformer to appear on screen in this first episode is none other than Wheeljack, closely followed by Bumblebee. Perhaps by accident or design, any day now Wheeljack is going to celebrate his role as the first Transformer to appear on screen by getting his very own Masterpiece toy released – and as with the cartoon, a Masterpiece Bumblebee is following closely after.
