Posted on 01-29-2012 at 12:22 PM by ORIO under 3rd Party Unlicensed
leaderblackout
3rd Party Group, X-Transbots, has stepped up to answer the call many movie fans have been making since 2007. A new set of images has popped up over on Weibo (login required) of a Leader Blackout with Scorponok figure.

No release date yet, but as additional information rolls in we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, click on the title bar to see the images and begin drooling.

That....actually looks half decent. I'm not into movie toys, but I'll keep an eye on their progress. Given the sketchy QC on Powerglide, I'm a bit leery though
Cast
Its not for me but good on them for giving movie fans something they've been calling for forever.
Torque
wow, those knees...
skiss
I'm not a movies fan and will not buy this but I think its awesome their making this. Hopefully it has enough demand to pay for their investment costs.
Fishdirt
Was hoping it'd be a g1 scorpy..argh
Scaleface
There might be a problem in sales, considering that most older people willing to import overseas imports for pay 3rd party prices are G1-leaning. Sure a Leader Blackout would sell well to the kiddies if it was in Toys R Us for $60, but importing it overseas from a third party at what it's likely to sell for? Maybe not so many people would want it.
Thundershot
Man, I thought for a second we'd get a 3rd party G1 Scorponok... I need to lower my expectations before clicking a thread.
PredaconElder
This toy is really unnecessary.
Scaleface
Just goes to show what the collectors want - G1. People would be much happier if this was a Headmaster citybot who turned into a scorpion (Scorponok) and a Micromaster jet (Blackout).

I second this. A leader Blackout was somethign that NEEDED to be done...why the chose bungholebee for a leader class i will NEVER understand.
RedAlert Rescue
Oh it's only Plasticard slapped together - but the Galvatron did progress and get a bit better over time.

So I hope they take some feedback and improve it where possible before releasing it.
Transbot90210
Thank god I am not into the movie toys, but interesting to see a non G1 figure being made and not a bad looking one at that.
crewboy7
This looks amazing. I will buy this.
EnerJohn
So let me guess. This will never hit the stores and it'll be around $100 if not more. Order online only...

as a major advocator for a leader class blackout, i gotta say.... this thing, while not perfect, dose look pretty dam good for what they could work with. aside from the legs, if they can make it that accurate to the CGI model, make it stand up, and make it turn into a very realistic looking pave low, im pretty much 100,000,000,000% sold on this. while it is dissapointing that hasbro could not jump on this back in 2007 or even 2009 with a "grindor", it dose make me feel very happy that a third party has stepped in to give a LOT of fans what they want: a leader class toy of a movie character who deserved it more than any other.
Yaujta
That looks an aweful lot like the mini-scale customs by CENTAURUS seen in the Radicons section. The figures are basically Cyberverse but very articulated and detailed. The joints look exactly the same as these.
Ra88
Not a bad start, but it will need a lot of work. Because as is it's just kinda meh.
DJW107PRIME
Thats ambitious good luck.
javaco
I'm pretty sure this is a custom. the same guy did a long haul and a few other movie characters
Detroa
It needs a lot of work but knowing someone is finally working on this makes me happy panda.

Indeed. The creator even has a thread in the Radicons section:

Just look at the attachments.
General Tekno
Oooooooo. Nice.
Walktehdinosaur
If this is the real deal and it begins to look better I may consider buying my first 3rd party ever. And its good to see a non g1 3rd party as well, not everyone is a g1 fanboy.
Rockdown
I bet a bunch of Blackout fans need tissues right about now
ichnach
legs look reeeeaaaly spindly. Hopefully it has better QC than their devastator upgrade, or else he will just keep falling over and all his fingers will fall out...
tas262
That looks pretty decent. I sold all my movie toys though so its an easy pass.
beigoma
If they can pull this off I will be so excited. Now make me a movie leader Bonecrusher!

exactly haha. i noticed i was the only one to mention that. ill send that link to the creator of the thread
jason jupiter
edit out, you guys already found his radicons thread.

i was wondering if it was just a custom?
Paxtin
As much as I hate to say this, I honestly wonder if the movies have fans that are as devoted as the G1 fans are who are willing to pay crazy 3rd party prices.

Now a Leader Lugnut...That'd probably sell.
process
Does anyone have a list of the items X-Transbots has announced, or at least has been accredited to, without result?

Wrong answer.

And why on earth would people think that it's a G1 Scorponok?

Now I'm confused.

Did somebody really jump the gun posting news that this will be a 3rd party leader class figure?

Or are they taking this thing a step further?

Either way, that thing is about 75% of what it would need to be for me to happily buy it. I hope somebody is serious enough about this to make some improvements on it. I'd be all over this if they got it to where it needed to be and released it as a leader class (or bigger) toy!
Crazy Ramjetty
they do listen to the fans . . .

My mind skipped over the Blackout part, subconscious filtering I suppose, and read the thread as "Leader Class Scorponok".

Also, X-Transbots posts lots of things on their blog that aren't their projects. The accompanying text does not imply this is one of their projects; just bad reporting by Seibertron I would say.

What's with all the movie bashing in this thread?!?!

There's just no reason for it. I'm sure there's quite a few people (myself included) who would pay for a 3rd party leader Blackout if it actually happens and was done a bit better than this currently is. I'd easily pay $200 for this character if done right.

Hehe!
I noticed it right away but I forgot the name of the creator.
Those designs are unique, you'll never forget them.

Disappointing.

But that needed some work before I would pay for it anyhow.

Finally, a Leader Class Blackout!

I'd buy it.
Unicron9
Being a big fan of moderately close scale figures, i'd actually pay good money for a nice leader class blackout figure to go in my movie bots collection. Unfortunately this is not looking nice at all in my opinion. Good effort so far, but very far from good enough.
Axel990
Any ideas how much something like this'll cost?

In the mean time, I'm gonna start saving money now.
MeGrimlock1976
I think it is an awesome idea and I would buy one in a heartbeat! Blackout is awesome!!
