Mech iDeas Longblast Upgrade Kit Official Pictures

Posted on 12-19-2012 at 07:03 AM by ORIO under 3rd Party Unlicensed
Longblast1
Mech iDeas has revealed new official images of their Longblast Upgrade kit via their Facebook page. This kit will upgrade your Reveal the Shield Jazz figure into a Shockwave homage and includes; a mono-eyed head, weapon hand, decal sheet, a gun G1 Megatron gun and a mini G1 Shockwave gun. This is a great kit if you're a fan of Alternators Shockblast, 2012 Botcon Longarm or (if you're a fan of IDW's More Than Meets the Eye) if you desire to punish your figures through the ancient Cybertron act of empurata. Also shown in these pictures are photos of the miniature G1 guns being held by various figures including voyager Classics Prime and Mech iDeas upcoming Demoltion Crue figures.

Unfortunately it requires painting him... I prefer upgrade kits that require no painting like Renderform.
MegaMoonMan
That's nothing but a photoshop.
Cadbane
wow that is a Soundwave's head replacing Decepticon emblem on the casing? Cute.
Scaleface
Isn't that the Phantom of Screamer gun? No, the details are slightly different.

Looks that way.

Well, I do have a spare Jazz. Sure, if it's cheap.
Vangelus
I dug the concept, would be neat to give that a try. At least Jazz is mostly an easily paintable base colour.

Kind of looks like one of TJs backgrounds...
Vampyr
advertising something with that's kind of shit photoshoping isnt very rassuring for the product itself...it's more like, "hey put some pics of the idea first with what we can do right now, so thats over third party productors came after us"

You think TJ would take a picture and Photoshop job of that quality and put it out there in public?

But seriously... stuff like this is weird. I don't understand how people think that they can make anything off of a kit that requires people to paint... especially full figures and the like. It's the same thing I wondered about that WFC MEgatron to galvatron upgrade crap too.

Nice one interested buyer sir
Vampyr
that's better already
well, that's will please a few radicons and potential commissioners

EDIT: I wonder one thing though, does it can transform with those parts?

Yes.

Not take with this at all, wasn't taken with the botcon one either, why can't a 3rd part just make a good replacement arm for E shockblast already, better size for shockwave and more fitting alt mode.

Just said it looked like your background. Ie, perhaps they photoshopped one of your previous pictures.

Why did they choose jazz to make this alteration to? Nice mold but totally random, and you'd have to paint to even make any sense out of it.

Its due to Botcon doing it as the custom class fig (which was moulded in purple) and they picked it as alt shock and Jazz having the same basic tooling.

I know its crazy isn't it, one of the most obvious add ons and 3rd party could do, its a common toy that most people aren't satisfied with, really I even joined shapeway to try and make one myself but my 3D modling skills suck ass. Really it could be like a 2 part tool, a 4 part would give it all the articulation it would need.

Why? It's now harder to get an Energon Shockblast compared to an RTS Jazz. If you're a 3rd party, you'd rather sell to the masses.

Not really, 1) lot of people already have e shockblast, 2) e shockblast goes for around 20 to 30 on e bay which is not that much more than retail 3) To make the add on work you have to repaint a whole figure, it not an easy thing and there will be lot of paint chipping and rubbing so that will turn more people off this. Could also go with SG isn't as popular with people as G1 and this really isn't a g1 shockwave. In fact i'll bet an E shockblast that an add on kit to give it a new gun arm will sell far better than this set will.

RTS Jazz @ <$10 versus a $20-$30 figure... I'd rather stick it out with a Jazz figure... But, that's me. I wasn't into the Energon or Cybertron line.

That's if you can find it for $10 not everyone could find him at retail so, and the Energon one is simple just make a lower arm that attaches where the cannon goes it'd cost maybe $15 or so depending if a company decides to make one and if they'd add on anything else, Idc if Alt. Jazz and Shocky had a same mold, or that it's based off the Botcon tooling it still seems really stupid to do so when there is a more obvious thing to make, instead of copying a convention exclusive basically

Didn't read this thread until earlier I don't go to the 3rd party forums a lot, unless I'm looking for news of something awesome coming up

It goes two ways as well... Shockblast isn't found easily nowadays and wouldn't cost anything lesser that $40 or so... Fact is, we are even getting a Wheelie based on RTS Jazz... So, it'll still be cheaper.
StayingInTheBox
This is a great idea for those willing to paint. I'm not a great customizer so I'll pass.
CodeXCDM
That mini laser gun looks *exactly* like the one from TFC's "Ghost of Screamer" upgrade kit. The only difference is that it's smaller such that it fits onto RTS Jazz.

Currently have FP Bruticus sporting that gun atm.

Also... I'm sure that once this kit comes out... you'll find somewhat regular eBay postings featuring painted up Shockwave/Longarm figures. Granted it might be a bit pricey for some, but it'll be an option if you aren't the painter/customizing type.
Scaleface
Well, I had to do it. I stopped in my local Khols and picked up a spare RTS Jazz, just so when this guy comes out I have a spare to convert!
Neekotron
When will this set come out? I really like the look of it and have an extra Jazz waiting for it..
Ranger Silver 6
I am probably gonna get this set and leave it on the gift set Jazz with no paint just cause I can
Kung Fu Man
Considering that myself, the extra body details should work out great with the Longarm appearance.
kmoua7
New upgrade by Mech Ideas? Never heard of the 3rd party group but interesting nevertheless and pretty cheap.

aren't they the group making twin twist and topspin?

Yep. I have an advance copy of the longblast mod kit, waiting on a jazz to arrive to finish the custom, but it's a nice kit, molded in clear plastic. The head is in two parts, with the back/inner eye removable, so you can paint the head easily, and paint the eye bit with a clear paint, slide it in, and have some nice lightpiping! I don't have the sticker sheet, so I can;t speak to that, but we've seen preview pics of it.
CodeXCDM
I gotta say... for the mini Megs and Shockwave gun alone... 16$ is a pretty darn good deal. If one isn't interested in the other bits, I'm sure you can get someone to buy the customization fodder for a couple bucks...

So does this kit require painting then or is it only your kit since you have an advance copy? I may pass if painting is required as I don't have any radicon skills. To clarify, the parts are already painted correct? I understand creating a long blast from a Jazz will require painting.
Peaugh
The parts I have are clear. It looks like the arm gun in that BBTS photo is a clearish purple. Honestly, I'd prefer it that way. If the parts were molded in purple already trying to match it could be a pain, but if I'm painting the parts along with everything else it will all be the same purple.
Scaleface
Come with a free G1 style Megatron too? I just ordered it.
SurlyJ
I wonder if there are people who are all anti 3rd party figures but are ok with things like this?
Scaleface
Some people tread add-ons for official Transformers products different stand alone figures that copy the Transformer designs.

Yeah I get that, but to me they are in the same boat, using another IP without consent to make a buck. Either way, I don't care but maybe that's why they are mostly equivalent to me. Different angles of the same triangle.
Scaleface
Yeah, I don't really care about the difference. Historically, no one cared much about "garage kits" and the like, even with City Commander, because it enhanced a Hasbro toy. Most of the online stink about "thind party Transformers" started with Warbot Defender, who was stand-alone.
Timesynch
Hmmm, two 5mm-peg guns (Shockwave AND Megatron) for under $20? I think this kit may just give Dr. Wu's Megatron pistols a run for their money. The Shockwave head and arm turret are just icing. PO'd.
beangrower
Sweet deal for any of the contents. Preordered! Now where's mobin.
Bountyan
Thinking about getting this simply for the Megatron and Shockwave weapons.
Scaleface
When do we get the repaint with an orange head for Wheelie, and a Browning and Shackwave gun?
