Here is a real oddity to share with you - 2005 Boards member Sidecutter of online store Captured Prey sent us over these images of an item currently being solicited. The supplier deals in CHMS products, so we're assuming this is one of theirs.

As you can see from the pictures, it's a cage for Classics / Universe Ravage. But not just any cage, as it is based on the cage that the Autobots imprisoned Ravage in after he was caught in the pilot of the original Generation 1 cartoon, More than Meets the Eye. The set even comes with a key to match the cage, based on the one that Hound taunted Ravage with (and later conveniently dropped to let the Decepticon free himself all as a part of a plan to lead the Decepticons into an ambush)

The downside is this piece is likely going to cost $40 as it is made by hand from ABS sheet and rods. Which may well price many fans out of the market for this quirky bit of Generation 1 inspired fun.

supervir2
I'd buy that
Motor_Master
Same here, if it's in the $10 range.

I really like that. Breaks up the monotony of attempting to pose every figure differently.

im not carrying that. Is overprice.. i dont think the price is worth it..try 4x times..
skiss
I think this is really cool. I can see why a lot of G1'ers may want to pick it up.
TJ Duckett
Ok, I'm all over this.

And, I'm not going to put him in the cage on the Autbot's side, I'm going to do it on the 'Con side, like he's bat-shit rabid and crazy.
FatalT 71
Cool. Not $40 cool.

Yeah. Apparantly these are handmade using ABS, probably from plastic sheet and rods. Would be at least $40 a piece. I just don't see that being a good move.

*goes to build a toothpick cage*

Yeah, cool but a giant pass at that price point.
brr-icy
10-20 maybe, 40, nope
flamepanther
AWESOME idea, but the price point isn't practical.
The Dark Seeker
If it was metal/die cast, I'd think about it. But $40 for that?.......nah.....
Logicfry
I can make that thing my self for about $5.

What are you talking about? 5$ max. Even then the wife would laugh at me for buying it at that price.

metal/die cast cage? Awesome idea! $40 for a plastic cage... not so much. at least it looks decent with the detailing and the mini key.

*edit
i just thought that it would be pretty funny if the developer was actually CD and not CHMS. if that was the case, the price point makes sense.
Scaleface
They should have made is a build-a-cage. With purchase of 4 or 5 different CHMS products, you get a piece of the cage.

Great Idea wrong price......don't assume the fandom will buy EVERYTHING .......

No dices from this player ......

Too late man. Too freaking late. This fandom's self respect went out the door a long time ago. The CHMS cage is a very good sign for that loss.
UTF
This is getting out of hand.
frenzyrumble
i would buy - if the bars were 5mm poles...

Yeah, but if this were a CD product, they might include such bonus features as scraping the paint apps off Ravage and a courteous apology that blames the customer for not fitting it properly lol.

I guess you're right....
Bountyan
Interesting.
Orodruin
Looks neat, but not my thing.
Secretcode
Neat.
manyoufactsure
What would something like this cost to make from shapeways? Would it be less than 40 bucks or more? Any 3d designers have an idea? It is really cool, especially since it has a key, but not $40 cool.
destrongerlupus
ADORABLE....not $40 of adorable, but ADORABLE all the same.
deaculpa
While I'm not really on board with this line of episode-specific homages, I think it's great that that the G1 fan base is being marketed so specifically. There will probably be something I can't resist sooner or later.
shibamura_prime
It's a cage. For forty bucks. Have we not officially gone 'round the bend now?
D-Unit
I prob. won't buy it, but I think it's cool it comes with the key. Nice item
Starscream Gaga
Anyone who buys this for $40 seriously needs their brain checked. And needs to give money to charity, at least that's not useless money.
Demonss
I echo the statements.. It'd be a pretty fun accessory for $10... $40.. no way..
DecepticonSpike
Some of these Third Party add ons are just getting silly.
tikgnat
I... want one.
Arkvander
What a great item, that is inspired. I love MTMTE and this was part of one of the pivotal scenes. That being said, $40 is a bit high, I'd probably pay $15-20 at most.

Someone needs to do a Sherman Dam playset!
allew
People will pay $50 for a headband accessory, $40 for a cage sounds like a bargain!
BScorpinok75
If this was only in the $10-20 range I'd likely grab it.
SwindlesShop
good fuckin lord.
Blitz.
pay 40 something for a 3rd party cage or just go to a toystore and look in the cheapo zoo toy sets for 10 and give the rest to my little cuz....
Grimlock_13
Yeah a little too spendy as it is but if there's ever a sale I'd get it. It's better than that dumbass headband people are paying out the ass for.
Rayzilla Prime
...I can understand sets consisting of guns that certain characters have used, I can understand decals and such, I can understand heads to do a headswap and make your character more accurate, and I can understand 100% original designs that Hasbro would never do.

But that is the most generic cage EVER. Even in the cartoon, it was generic. The only thing that remotely gives it identity is the lock. Which, not to mention, is barely noticeable.

Blitz beat me to the punch - you can find these things cheap, and you usually get a truck and a Velociraptor with it.

Speakin' of which, if it came with a Henkei or a customized Hound, that would justify the $40.
tformer0607
is it me or are the 3rd party products getting more pointless for more money lately...
frenzyrumble
you can still find these at the DOLLAR store...
ARCTrooperAlpha
screw this. I'm building my own damn cage !!!!!

(to homage-quote Phantom Limb from Venture Bros.)
Tenebrouser
Does nothing for me.
Mechafire
I think it's kinda neat-

>$40

Okay yeah nevermind
