Cool altmode, shitty robot mode with bad engineering. Shame, I wanted a good figure of that design.

The qc and other issues hopefully will be addressed when he is fully released. I cancelled my pre-order for him on bbts based on the bot pics. It's soundwave's colors but it's just not soundwave in my eyes. Something about that bot mode doesn't jive with me. Thanks-you very much for the review.

Are you sure there's no knee joints? It looks like there are for the transformation.

I think it looks okay. I'm going to want a few more opinions on it before I decided whether I really want it or not.

Reverse knees? why not just buy a g1 soundwave if this thing doesn't have up to date articulation?

Either way, the proportions, waist piece, that articulation problem, general ugliness and other little problems really add up to making this guy easy to pass.

positive, it can only move outward, and not bend like a normal knee. look at a pic showing the back. notice how the whole leg looks like one piece. the lower leg should have had part of it removed around where the back of the knee would be allowing the darker gray part that you can see from the front, would allow for a normal knee movement.

But I wonder if they did that because not having a normal knee movement allows the legs to support the heavier weight on top.

I stand by my decision to have never ordered it at all.

^This. Also goes to show 3rd party stuff is waaay overrated, IMHO. Decpticgar, not koccking or trolling on purpose in your thread.

it doesnt mean that 3rd party is overrated, it means that the guy who designed Sonicron did it badly.

In the hands of another 3rd party designer like Fansproject or hell, even iGear this COULD have been something cool but this looks a mess. Spindly from the front with too big an upper torso and from the side the whole thing is a mess. The cassette mode while detailed has WAY too many gaps on it and the finish of the thing makes it look less like a high quality 3rd Party piece and more like a hand made garage kit which reading this review of how may of this particular version were made, isn't too far off.


They have some serious QC issues to work out before this comes close for mass production but either way, I'm sticking with my Device Label, thanks.

Looks OK, but doesn't live up to the art on which it's based (but what does?) I am pretty impressed with the detail level on the tape recorder mode though.

I'm still on the Music Label Soundwave side here too.

Gahhh, I cancelled my preorder after in hand pics from BotCon started surfacing, and this review has made me feel VERY confident that that was the right call.

I was looking forward to cassette storage, and in a new odd-ball color scheme I might bite as a *different*tape-Guardian, just to add variety to the universe, but the final product just does NOT look enough like Soundwave, and the QC issues are the final nail in the coffin.

20-30 bucks mass produced, you KNOW I'd buy it, but as an 80 buckaroo drop, I don't have THAT much pure 3rd Party love :/

Well slag! I really don't know what to think about this now. He looks awesome in alt mode sans the gap issue, and the paint apps look awesome. I also dig the overall size of him. But those knees, bell-bottom for legs, and the supposed overall "looseness" of the toy is disappointing. I think that I may pick one up later with price reduction.

Eeeeeew.....his head is tiny, reversed knees, thin waist, overly bulky arms and legs, a cassette player mode that has a load of gaps in it......

Looked bad during the prototype stage and still looks bad now.....

Damn. I wanted this thing to kick ass. Not suck it. Goes to cancell preorder.

Just wondering, does the Classic Ravage/Botcon Glit fits inside?

If the head looked alittle bit better I would of got it. The prototype G1 look head was a A+ fit.... So what happend?

This thing had so much potential when I first heard about it and saw a prototype of just the alt mode.

Thanks for taking one for the team and posting the review. Definitely passing on this one. I saw it at the show and got super excited because of the nice packaging, but came to my senses and blew money on other stuff instead.

i got one to at botcon and i think they all have issues thankfully the guy gave me his business card and told me to contact him for replacement parts if necessary

Thanks for this review. I was on the fence about him, but this review made Soundwave an EASY PASS. I literally cannot wait to NOT spend my money on this.

Reversed knees are inexcusable. Knees are the only thing that holds me back from putting Classics re-issue Soundblaster on my Classics Shelf as Soundwave. If this one doesn't fix that, then WTF do I need it for?

Aside from that, this is a fuck ugly and floppy figure now that we can see it up close.

Nice try guys. If it ended up looking like the actual arwork, it'd be bought in a second, but it looks as clunky as all Hell.

Are you positive on the knees? These look like they would bend backward.

Sculpt is awesome, looseness can be fixed. Sold!

Sadly, I was looking forward to this, but I'll be passing. I had a feeling it was going to end badly and you confirmed it. I think part of it was keeping the tape functionality. This could work, but you sort of need to make the figure bigger to compensate for the awkwardness of the chest.

So the upper thigh can't twist around, putting the 'knee joint' in the back?

Yes that part can move back, but to me that is not the knee, here is what I mean.

In this pic, the part circled is the knee to me, which is inverted...


In this pic you can see the limitation in the leg for poses, in a sense you are just straightening out the leg...


The leg in this pic is how it should bend, with the other piece you mentioned plus this type of knee would allow for better poseability...


In this pic with the arrow, that is the direction the leg can move back, which is for transformation, the circle at the top has a piece that comes inward too much, preventing the long piece from coming forward more than just straight up. The circle at the bottom shows how pieces do not connect and cause breaking and stressing...

Looks like a long lost figure from 1985. Doesn't hold up to todays' bot engineering standards IMO.

I think there should be a TFW205 fund that people put money into so that the 1st person to get and review a stinker, thus saving the rest of us money, can recoup their cost.

Yeaaaaah, I was looking forward to this back in April, but with this i'm gonna say I'll pass. A few extra bucks and I can get a playable MP3 version. Wouldn't care if it were Black or Blue (...well not white) and will LOOK like soundwave. This to me.....it just reminds me how horribly disappointed i was with Function Valkyrie.

Not feeling it. Just... ugh. So much went wrong with this from the early stages to the final product.

Hopefully this inspires some other third party company to give this another go and completely nail it.

I like the mini-cassette recorder look, but if that's what I wanted, I'd buy a mini-cassette recorder. What I want is a cool looking mini-cassette recorder that turns into a highly detailed kick ass Soundwave looking robot. The problem here is other than the colors, not only does it not look like Soundwave to me, it looks like ED-209 from Robocop had sex with a cassette recorder and the offspring felt guilty about how stupid it looked and stuck a head on top of it to try to be a Transformer. Unfortunately the head looked just as stupid so while it did keep the overall look in the same vibe, the poor lovechild was left to live his life as just a normal mini-cassette recorder. Of which, you can most likely find one for a lot cheaper than this crap pile.

The art concept looks much better than the actual product. Dunno if there is gonna be a major difference in the final product, if there is gonna be.
