BoldToys Megatron Figure Prototype

Posted on 03-21-2012 at 01:41 AM by ORIO under 3rd Party Unlicensed
BTMegatron1
Pictures of a new 3rd Party Megatron figure have surfaced on ACtoys. Not to be confused with Hegemon, this new figure is being produced by a new 3rd Party Group called BoldToys. This new figure offers a traditional take on Generation 1 Megatron and the pictures even have a comparison with the original G1 figure. No word yet as far as price or when this product will be available.

Looks better than Hegemon, but arm poseability will suffer.
Impactor1106
So another option for Megatron fans... Interesting
aprim
OHHH YES, I love it! sign me up!
zephon
At least these guys have wax(?)/clay(?) prototypes to show off!

Whaaa? This thing looks like it has the articulation of a bent stick. I know its opinion based and mine is biased. This thing is just not better than hegemon, Just the engineering seems inferior. Will wait for final proto pics before I can give final judgement.
G.I.EDDIE
i think i like Hegemon better...the BT versions crotch looks like a diaper...

though if your REALLY want a slightly more G1 look, BT might be for you....personally i prefer the updated looks of Hegemon...

Impactor1106
Okay - so this is now the 2nd 3rd party version of Megatron coming out, as far as I know. What I do not understand, why release a version of a figure already announced, why don't they do someone new? How about a Shockwave? I sure some folks are glad to have a choice of which version they want, but I wish there was some other characters offered.
megatroptimus
Because Megatron sells?

Unless this thing is atleast half the price of hegemon or less. I don't see it selling very well.
knoted
The BT looks better. I just hate the Hegemon's reversed arms.
aprim
I want it, and if someone would so a Galvatron they could have my money fast!
General Tekno
ANOTHER Megatron?!?

Also, looks to me like the engineering from the MP with some leg changes - I'm guessing the legs collapse into each other.
artistvideogame
Hegemon has better proportions. Just look at BT's waist.... it's very thick.
Crown
I'll stick with Hegemon.
Cecilia
Well I like this better than hegemon for the longer legs (or impression of longer legs) however I wanted something like IDW Megatron: Sort of G1 look, but an actual decent alt mode, specifically a huge tank..
deaculpa
Hegemon looks better but I'll wait for mp megs v2.
exomega255
Hegemon looks better tbh.
Rahvin
I'm sticking with Hegemon. The legs on this one look...off. Not as spindly as MP-05 of course, but they still look too thin. Might be the sumo-diaper waist. And the arms look like they'll have a lot less articulation.

This guy looks smaller though, if he stands next to G1 Megatron. I don't have one, but as I recall he was smaller than a modern Voyager like Hegemon, wasn't he?

I'm not necessarily averse to getting both, I love G1 Megatron, but I'd need to see more of this before I consider biting.

Also: Shockwave, please? Pretty please?
exomega255
shockwave is seriously, the same type of engineering as a Megatron Gun, so the basis for design is there once you set it up. I wouldn't be surprised if Hegemon gets a remold into Shockwave.

What?

No.

The legs both turn into the gun handle, sure, but in a different way from Megatron, and the torso and arm transformations are completely different. Megs shifts his torso over and his arms become the back of the gun slide and he flips around the gun barrel from where it's stored on his back. Shockwave's arms [i]are[i/i] the gun barrel, his backpack becomes a targeting area, there is no slide like in an Earth gun, and his torso doesn't shift, he just kind of leans forward. The guns wind up looking very different, adn I don't see how you could use Hegemon as a basis for a real homage of Shockwave. Even in robot mode, the torso would look completely wrong, and where Hegemon has a gun barrel and Earth-style trigger on his back, Shockwave is supposed to have the targeting section of the gun fold up into a backpack. The parts all look different and fold into completely different places fr alt mode.

I don't think it would be a remold, I think it would have to be a new design entirely.

I'd like to see the removable barrel be integrated into the forearms on a modern update though. Have the sides slide forward or fold out to cover the hands and form the barrel. Maybe a place to stash the trigger instead of having it just sit there in robot mode.
skiss
I hope the people wanting shockwave are not wanting this third party group to do it. Their are plenty out there that would ACE a classics/g1 shockwave. All I see with this group is someone who jumped the gun and is just trying to get in the 3rd party race. These guys don't seem to have anything on par with what I'm used to seeing.
exomega255
I didn't say anything about a real homage. If they are simply doing a gun <-> transformers scheme, not adhering to G1 transformation scheme, they can.

Also, torsos can be cheated, but I know how some feels about cheaty transformations.

And yes, I'd rather have the group that did Hegemon do Shockwave.
Oh_Slag
Hegemon all the way. Boldtoys' version is not bad, just looks too stiff.

BTW, any stores offering preorders for the Hegemon version yet?

Maybe but not in the size class that a lot of us want, that being Ultra-sized or equal to PP01 Faith Leader and the MP Seeker molds. Who knows how far in the future or how long we'll have to wait for Takara's MP Megatron v2 to go with MP-10?

RobotKingdom offers it too.

CapturedPrey is in the States, so that should help those of us who were concerned about customs when importing from RobotKingdom or other overseas vendors.
exomega255
RK had the preorder out for at least a month now =)
Megatron31
the inside of the thigh's is a very KO like design i fear this would be a floppy mess

but it does look great
AngryChad
So far I'm liking this one a lot more than the Hegemon one, especially for the head and legs.
juise
Why hasn't this been front paged yet?
RedAlert Rescue
I think hegemon is a better match to things like Hexatron and Hercules so seems like a better bet - I don't dislike the new one but the arms looka bit fragile.

It's something I'd consider though even though I think G1 Megatron is a berk.

I think there's part of me that would rather have a Movie acurate ROTF Megatron since hasbro's managed to completely failed at ever making a toy that looked anything like him.
Incepticon
No contest, the Hegemon design absolutely destroys this thing imo.

Megatron was not a tank in G1, and I absolutely hated the G2 tank design even as a child. I associate Megatron with a Walther P.38 handgun, and his original cartoon/animated movie appearances as such. I never particularly liked Beast Wars/Machines or the Unicron trilogy.

For me, Megatron IS a gun, and the only possible version of Megatron that I would purchase other than a gun is the IDW War Within Cybertronian version, a mining machine converted into a superheavy tank (and I am filled with dismay that the only toy representation of that incarnation was the horrible Titanium figure, which I nonetheless own).

Also, Shockwave is a giant gun, though a fixed-emplacement cannon is acceptable (since he didn't use mass-shifting to fit in a hand in the cartoon and behaved as if he were a fixed-emplacement cannon), and Galvatron is a giant space cannon.

I want Browning
!
Scaleface
A variety of size options for my 3rd party Megatron is cool. This one looks about Deluxe size. Hegemon is Voyager sized, Megashooten is about Legends size, and Megagun is Nebulan sized.
Bountyan
I wish a third party would make a better looking more G1 accurate head for Henkei/United Megs.

I'm sticking to either Henkei Megs or Hegemon.
Rahvin
Henkei Megatron at least got the colors right...but the mold itself was still just not what I wanted, personally. The fusion cannon was oversized, the wings looked out of place, his altmode was too much a Nerf gun than a proper Megatron altmode, and he was, in essence, a shellformer.

I actually just cannibalized my Universe Megatron for parts for my very first custom, Shockwave, because Hegemon will be taking his place as the perfect Classics Megatron.

He would, but Megatron's an even bigger name.
deaculpa
that thing looks deserving of the title "delicate warrior", lol.
hollow-ass arms... looks like it cant move. ...all taped up and shit.
Scaleface
How long does it take to develop a figure like this? Could the effort have started before they knew Hegemon was coming?

Possably, from what others have said this is probably going to be in a different size class, deluxish. That is, if it even makes it to production. Even then, this thing will probably be on sale as fast as sonicron was.
Astronut
I would probably be somewhat interested in this if it wasn't for Hegemon.
TFao
I think this Megs beats Hegemon' s altmode hands down... but botmode... not so much.

Will be interested to see how this turns out though.
Scaleface
Does it come with a purple branch with leaves like Hegemon?

WTF? You don't like energon beatin' sticks? Every good Decepticon should have one.
