From Wikkid:
This Skyfire build is based off the Optimus Prime Masterpiece frame. All additions to the original mold are fabricated from .22 gauge steel which causes it to be rather heavy. (Approx. six pounds) Something to note is the wings aren't just some flat steel cut to fit. They are actually double layered and contour the same as a real aircrafts wings with a blunt leading edge tapering off to the back. The paint used is Sikkens Autobase and cleared with the matching system. All paintwork is airbrushed with the clear being applied using a conventional HVLP gravity feed gun which makes it resistant to UV rays and most chemicals. There's around 32 hours put into this build not including the pre-planning stage. It's fully transformable and extremely sturdy as it's been dropped a few times and lived to tell about it. The cockpit opens to reveal a pilot seat and control panel with flight stick. Both were ripped from the Rhino rig of M.A.S.K. fame.
My main reason for building this was to have a more accurate Skyfire for my G1 collection as the original toy looked nothing like the toon. I've already got plans for a second build using an Ultra Magnus frame which will improve on many of the shortcomings of this prototype.
