"I had been working on an RX-8 for a while and finished this piece before Takaratomy announces the release of "Autorooper." I had posted this custom as "STREETWISE" that very night. I wasn’t devastated, though, because I knew he'd soon have a partner.
After I got “Autorooper”(and I wanted to rename him as well), I came up with "BACKSTREET" for this custom. I think it sounds cool and it also allowed me to free up "STREETWISE" for another custom I made. I never felt "Streetwise" suited this piece anyways. "BACKSTREET" grew on me and I think it fits better.
I am grateful for the wonderful sculpting Hasbro/Takaratomy places in their work. Since I didn’t do a lot of body work in alt mode, I did want to pull out some of the details in bot mode. After I finished, I was a bit afraid he had been overworked a bit, but I think it balances out well. With Alts/BTs, I really like a slick, clean, "new" look to them, as opposed to the grittier, weathered robots other Transformers are/can be. That's not a slam by ANY means to that style (as I use the same method myself sometimes, even on some Alt/BT customs), but merely a deliberate style choice for most of my Alt customs to an extent anyways.
The head is from an Alterantors Meister, with the visor removed and all of the details painted. The kanji is from a custom label set I made for this piece and other Prefecture Police Alt/BT customs.”
