Cartoon Overview
Silent and menacing, Soundwave is the Decepticon spymaster. No transmission escapes his attention, no action is below his notice. On several occasions so far, he has detected signals that have shaped the flow of events. He detected the approach of Megatron, and he was the first to learn of the existence of the Autobot base. His deployer, Laserbeak, retrieved Agent Fowler for Starscream to interrogate, and later he was behind the computer hacking that allowed the Decepticons to open a Spacebridge to Cybertron.

Soundwave is also indirectly responsible for saving Megatron's life. When Megatron was drifting wounded in space, it was Soundwave's deployer that derailed Starscream's intentions to kill the Decepticon leader. He derailed the intention to shut down Megatron's life support systems again when Starscream pressed to deactivate Megatron. Given that Starscream needed Soundwave's permission to turn off Megatron's life support, it seems as though Soundwave has a high enough position within the Decepticon organization to rival Starscream.

Due to his silent nature, Soundwave is shrouded in mystery. He is loyal to the Decepticon cause, and loyal to Megatron rather than Starscream. But his personality and feelings beyond that are uncertain. It is also known that Soundwave is capable of speech - he simply chooses not to speak.

A stealth drone and the Decepticons' spy master, Soundwave has no face and doesn't say much. He just quietly finds information to use against the Autobots. He can tap into any transmission anywhere, except at the Autobots' secret base. Soundwave's far-reaching tentacles can snap through concrete, but his main tools are the tiny Deployers in his chest.
